Forever Young....and Beautiful
I have to admit, I am having a difficult time writing the intro to this week’s Alacazem astrology column. I want to write about Elizabeth “Bets” Stiles Patterson, a beautiful young girl who accidentally fell off a cliff on a magnificently magical summer night. It was a night studded with stars, a black Moon, no moonlight, only starlight. She was camping outside of Moab with friends on a fabulously dramatic ridge called Porcupine Rim, which overlooks the red rock spires and canyons of Castle Valley. She awoke not long after midnight and got up to pee. In the morning, she was missing.
I received the news of her death from my niece, Allie, who lives in Telluride and finds out about everything long before I do down here in the wild, West End. Of course, it was painful and sad – for both Allie and me. More than painful and sad, tragic. Devastating. Like Elizabeth’s father, Stiff, had said when I saw him and hugged him the evening before Bets’ memorial service, “There are no words.”
Allie lost her sister, Lise, 19 years ago, and she understands the pain of losing someone so near and dear to the heart. A sister, a friend, a lifetime companion, someone who was always there to share with, laugh and cry. And Allie knew Bets well. She had coached her in soccer in when she first moved to Telluride from Boulder in 2002. Bets was only 12 at the time. And I knew Bets well, too. Stiff and Jenny had come with Bets and their son, Chas, to stay with us at our casa in Cabo Pulmo, Mexico, in the winter of 1994. At that time, Bets was only three years old. I can’t tell you how beautiful she was. Golden white blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes, like the little girl I never had. We laughed and played, danced and sang, made up poems and ran on the beach, swam in the ocean, gazed at the stars. She loved pink, just like I did and still do. My little amigita. Now gone.
I cannot express my sorrow, or my compassion for Stiff, Jenny and Chas. I know well the road they travel. It was the same year, in June of 1994, that Lise came to visit Richard and I in Cabo Pulmo for her senior trip. She was graduating from high school and wanted to come stay with us in Mexico rather than go off with her schoolmates somewhere else in Mexico where underage drinking was legal. I was surprised and excited, and oh so blessed. She left us the following November in a slushy, icy white-out snow storm automobile accident, in the darkness of night.
1994 was a year of great blessings for me. I made my pacts with both Lise and Bets. And now they are both in the other world, the land of spirit, the journey of souls. These 19 years later, I am aware that the year 2013 is the year of the recurring eclipse cycle that took place in 1994. And my heart is open, filled with love and sorrow. When a heart breaks, it breaks open. Blessings and peace. Forever young…and beautiful.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) The last full week of spring offers up plenty of busy-ness, one way or another. Dealing with communication issues – returning calls, responding to emails, tidying up your immediate environment, doing daily business – and moving about - around and around – you have come full circle. Surrender, forgiveness and compassion are allies in the rather chaotic mix of happenstance. Cultivate kindness, for yourself and others.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) Plenty of self-reliance and take-care-of-yourself energy permeates the wee, in spite of the fact that you love sharing your life and your feelings with others. Take care of business, make to do lists and cross the tasks and accomplishments off one at a time. One thing for certain, you know how to complete a project, no matter how long it takes. Love and beauty come via sweet compassion and acts of nurturing. Enjoy the joy.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) Mars in your sign continues to compel and impel you, awakening desire and pushing you forward. Just be sure to take a break now and then, rest and relax. Venus and Mercury in Cancer favor self-nurturing and self-care. Take a good look at your daily routines and consider whether or not you are living in harmony with your values. Remember that health is wealth. No matter what it costs, it’s worth it.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Venus and Mercury in your sign are attempting to balance a feisty, win-at-any-cost Mars in Gemini this week and the result is somewhat like being on a teeter-totter or roller coaster out of control. With emotion on one end and reason on the other, your heart and head may be feeling, thinking, questioning logic and attempting to come up with solutions for seemingly unsolvable problems. Surrender and let go. Relax.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Defining the indefinable is a favorite pastime of philosophers, scientists, scholars, priests and pundits. But each one of us must come up with our own explanations, reasons and understandings of why things happen the way they do. The ever-present and recurring mysteries of life are constant and eternal. Many moons and many eons come and go as we evolve in time. Embrace the moment, open your heart.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) You may see the bigger picture, understand the workings of the universe or accept the unfathomable mysteries of birth and death as the constant creation and re-creation of an eternal evolutionary process this week. Rather esoteric and higher-self stuff, but possible and plausible in light of your current space and time. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, there is work to be done. Good news, you’re doing it!
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Move in the groove and go with the flow are mantras from the sixties, when hippies ruled and slogans of free love and peace were popular. Like a blast from the past, or a ghost from the sixties, it is now time to reclaim, resurrect and reclaim the jewels and gems from those days and times. Higher-self living, in partnership with lower-self awareness, puts us back in touch with the mysterious power of love, and peace.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) You may find yourself returning to some old personal business, rehashing, reliving or revivlng what you thought was over, or learning lessons you have learned already, again. Whatever the manifestation, know that it is all taking place for good reason. We bang our heads against the same walls because we just don’t get it. Karma is a powerful force and we must respect it. Embrace the teaching, accept the process.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Much activity in the realms of partnerships, companionship and commitment is par for the course as Mars continues to march through your solar 7th house of sharing and pairing. One-to-one interactions and exchanges are the best bet now. Pay attention to what others have to say, listen rather than talk. Your biggest lessons and challenges emerge when you operate from an ego-based center. Take the ego out of the equation.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Mental Mercury and loving Venus in your solar 7th house of pairing and sharing may have you thinking about that special someone or something this week. Spend time with people you enjoy, surround yourself with pleasant, creative influences and seek input from outside sources. Motivational Mars in your solar 6th house of self-improvement inspires you to identify what you can change, rather than expecting it of others.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) The Sun and Mars in your solar 5th house of love and recreation may fuel fires of desire where fun and romance are concerned. If you have been working too hard or taking life too seriously, perhaps now it is time to lighten up and enjoy the beauty. Summer is short and life is a ever-evolving journey that ends in a flash. Today is a mysterious jewel, glistening with potential and possibility. Follow your heart.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Getting things done at home, whatever that means, tops your list of priority and attention this week. On the other hand, if you are neglecting what “needs to be done” you may find yourself crabby and crazy. Balance and focus are keys for success. Rather than scatter energy, make more messes or put it off for tomorrow, prioritize and organize. The good news, it is all good. It’s about progress, not perfection.

“The same, only different.” - Anonymous
How many times have I heard that said, or said it myself? Hundreds, maybe thousands. It refers to so, so many things, and certainly describes how I’m feeling today.
Every year, the seasons come and go. They roll around our planet like a slowly cresting wave on a sandy beach, ebbing and flowing, rising and falling. The cardinal solstices and equinoxes initiate beginnings and endings. The times in between are fixed and mutable, first setting the season and than shape-shifting it into the next one. And every year, every new season, it is “the same, only different.” Wind and weather, rain, snow, sleet and hail, freezes and thaws, droughts or deluges orchestrate a symphony of color and light, texture, structure and character. Depending on the annual rainfall and the yearly climatic conditions – lush or parched - we have abundant harvests and happy farmers, or not.
This year, this spring, we are experiencing a severe drought in southwestern Colorado. Much of the state is the same, or worse. Water is precious, at a premium these days. The new gold. Or the old gold, if you think about it. Like clean air, it is something we often take for granted. Like so many things in life, here one day and gone the next. Until it is threatened, we humans seem to forget how essential a clean, healthy natural environment is to our sustenance and success, let alone survival.
And now we are in the last zodiac month of spring, the Gemini month of transmutation, when we become restless and ready to go - somewhere, anywhere. Just the movement of tires on pavement seems to calm the soul. We are morphing into summer. Graduation ceremonies and parties, backyard barbeques and dreams of swimming pools, mountain lakes and rolling rivers fill our heads and hearts with visions of adventure and themes of possibility. Curiosity compels us up and out.
I have noticed a lot of motorcycles on the highway lately. The sound of roaring engines on their way west to Utah or east to Telluride calls me to drop what I’m doing and hit the road. But, of course, there is work to do here, right here at home. Tomato, basil and pepper seeds I planted in early April are now ready to go outside. It’s warm today – in the low 80’s - and I hope we’ve past last frost.
The garlic cloves I put in the ground last October are going gang-busters. My little spinach, lettuce, radish, scallion garden is showing promise. I need to get out and weed, plant green beans, peas, pumpkins and carrots. Turning a little patch of dirt into a food bank, what a concept.
The yucca cactus we transplanted from our pinon juniper forest years back is in bloom, along with the little red barrilitos, and the beaver tail is on its way. Here it is, another mutating spring, another Gemini month in the revolving wheel of flora, fauna, failure, fame, fate and fortune. Same thing, only different. And don’t forget to take note of this week’s upending, duality-rich, paradoxical Gemini new Moon on June 8th @ 9:56 am MDT. Start your engines!
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) A variety of mental, emotional and psychological ups and downs have you juggling head, heart and soul in an attempt to make the best of your present scene and situation. Many deep and profound experiences have come your way over the last few years. Understanding the meaning and message behind the mysterious synchronicity of our life lessons is key to unlocking its golden doors. Find the key.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) A trend toward the watery world of emotions begins this week as loving Venus in intuitive Cancer opens floodgates of sensing and feeling. You may find yourself instinctively knowing how to put others at ease or calm anxiety and fear. Somehow, you are tapping into the invisible and vibrational thought field of the akasha, picking up on psychic information and ancient wisdom. Trust your heart and go with the flow.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) The June 8th Gemini new Moon begins your mental/emotional year as the Sun and Moon join heart and head in the annual rebirth of soul and spirit. Balance perception with intuition as you ride the tides of change and expansion in your personal, social and professional worlds. Others see you as a seeker, explorer, professor, philosopher and guru of sorts. Truth is, you have seen more than most. Share your wisdom and experience.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) As Mercury and Venus in Cancer trine serious Saturn in seductive Scorpio and numinous Neptune in compassionate Pisces, you may find yourself swimming in an ocean of emotion, lost in a sea of dreams or simply working hard to keep your heart open and head above water. Bits and pieces of the metaphysical puzzle are coming together. Cultivate patience and remember the beauty.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Gemini is intimately linked with thought and perception, and this week’s new Moon lunation illuminates a kaleidoscope of new ideas and information regarding cherished hopes and dreams. Many of them are linked to friends and associates, comrades and camaraderie. Open your heart to fresh perspectives and ideas. Listen to what others have to say. The most important information comes from the least expected sources.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Prepare yourself for a week of powerful new beginnings and golden opportunity. The Sun and Moon are coming together in a symbiotic joining of support and encouragement where you want and need it most. The hopes, dreams and wishes you have regarding your personal success and achievement are aligning in a fortuitous fashion. Manifestation comes via good humor, focus and self-care.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Wild and wooly, crazy and chaotic, the last several weeks have been a stretch as well as a stunning lesson in self-awareness. Home and family life and relationships have taken their toll, you’ve had to be realistic and patient in the face of upsetting disappointments and challenges. The good news: you’ve passed with flying colors. Survival and success depend on good self-care. No joke, recovery first.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) An unusually powerful week and month emerge as a water-sign trines align you with the deepest, most mysterious and metaphysically potent forces in the universe. The trick is in keeping a positive, optimistic attitude and grateful, altruistic approach to each and every situation and circumstance that presents itself. Recognizing the great importance of your part is the golden key. Keep in touch with you. No residue.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Wow! The recent full Moon lunar eclipse in early Gemini/Sagittarius set off fireworks and threw dynamite under the most stubborn people and established institutions in your life. Now that you have released yourself from the prisons and confines of other’s expectations, what about your own? It is time to start fresh in relationships and commitments. Don’t say it if you can’t do it. Be impeccable with your word.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Fresh off the latest Uranus/Pluto square and three eclipses, you may be feeling released and reborn, ready to start over and begin again. Any and all self-defeating or self-destructive behaviors have been – and continue to be – exposed, in both yourself and others. The conscious choice is truth, honesty and integrity, no matter what. Follow a path of enlightened compassion and spiritual strength. The rest is easy.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) If you find that you are feeling over-worked, over-burdened and over-amped where responsibility is concerned, don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. There are too many people in the same over-loaded boat, and it’s time to lighten up. There is a huge reason that the adage “health is wealth” has been around so long. It is one of the world’s golden truths. Take care of yourself! Take a break! Healthy, wealthy and WISE!
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Home life begins anew each year in June for the Fish. Flowers and family, summer’s long, languid days and warm nights translate as a time of personal renewal and regeneration. Take a trip down memory lane, reconnect with that little boy or girl inside and treat him or her like a prince or princess. Be kind and gentle with yourself and others as the season unfolds with beauty and grace. Live in harmony.

Eclipsing Planets, Shifting Clouds and Moments of Grace
Our celestial sojourn through three eclipses and the third of seven exact Uranus/Pluto squares over the last six weeks has left me feeling older, wiser and even more aware of the overload of stimuli contained in each and every nanosecond of my life.
I ran into my longtime friend Salli Russell in the Montrose City Market the other day. She was in the checkout line, buying tons of food for a Telluride high school graduation event that she had committed to cater. Always good to see an old friend, especially one who is spiritually inspired, consciously awake and physically centered in the here and now. We exchanged hugs and hellos and then went right on into what was happening cosmically.
She mentioned that “whew!” she was busy. And, so much going on, overwhelmed. But, everything was good. Her boys were fabulous. Her relationships, better and better. And then, with that knowing look, she said that everyone just seemed to be so tired. She took a deep breath and exhaled, smiling her big, broad smile. I agreed whole-heartedly. Planets colliding, eclipsing and intercepting…is not that par for the course?
A few years back, I read an article in a magazine about baby-boomers and how they had evolved from hippie to yuppie to whatever they have morphed into today. One of the lines was “sleep is the new sex” – and I could totally relate. Nothing like a delicious, nutritious home-cooked meal made with fresh ingredients, a relaxing evening at home and a good night’s rest. Especially in light of the rapidly escalating, warp-speed, logarithmic movement of the world’s current multi-dimensional technological information industry, filtering through each and every crack and crevice of our lives. Yes, we are overwhelmed. And we need to somehow mediate and decompress. Relax and regenerate. Rest.
On my way home from Montrose, I was taken by the extreme beauty of the earth and sky surrounding me. The day had been warm and embracing. Not too hot, not too cold. An early morning spattering of rain over Dallas Divide on the way in; on the way out, it looked like anything could happen. Suddenly, the daunting ephemeral character of life hit me and I was overcome with feelings of deep gratitude and heart-opening humility. A moment of grace. A crack between worlds. The floating, ethereal sense of spirit, when all is One.
Like the moving, shifting clouds, enlightenment is transitory. Inspiration is elusive. Emotions come and go, change shape and direction, dissipate and disappear. People also come and go, change shape and direction, dissipate and disappear. We are constantly changing and evolving - physically, spiritually, psychologically - an interconnected, inter-related metamorphic cosmos of birth and death, rebirth and re-creation. As above, so below. Here and there, here and gone.
These days I find myself wanting to garden more and watch television less. I know life is short, and before we know it, it’s over. And yet, I look forward to the next great adventure. Whatever and wherever that might be. For everything there is a season, and a time. May you walk in beauty, live in harmony, know peace and get a good night’s sleep. Relax...breathe it all in...and let it go...out..onward. To the next great adventure...
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Mars moves into Gemini and Venus into Cancer this week, delivering both subtle and major shifts in the way you think and feel about relationships. Communication, siblings and male/female issues and interactions are themes. The challenge and imperative for success is maintaining emotional sobriety in the face of whatever comes your way. Refrain from impulsive words and actions. Think before you speak.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) Family and friends, thoughts and emotions are themes as mental Mercury and sensual Venus change signs and shape-shift the way you think and feel about brothers, sisters, neighbors and those with whom you interact daily. Balance a rational, realistic, detached approach to relationships and situations with sensitivity and compassion. What we want for others is often not what they want for themselves.
Gemini (May 20-June] Motivator Mars moves into Gemini this week and builds a fire under cherished hopes and dreams. The result is action. Take advantage of the current cosmic encouragement by getting up and getting going each day as early and as energized as possible. Eat when you are hungry, sleep when you are tired and focus on taking good, good care of you – body, mind and spirit. Self-nurture, rest, relax and then go forth!
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Voluptuous Venus enters Cancer this week and opens a glimmering, shimmering golden door to a month of enhanced beauty and bounty. Others are mysteriously, magnetically attracted to your graceful, nurturing style. Favors and appreciation come in many shapes and sizes. Remain spiritually in tune and intact; cultivate compassion and forgiveness in all relationships. Refrain from anger and gossip, it ruins everything.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) The Gemini zodiac month feeds Leo fire with the oxygen of information and ideas, flaming desires and fueling action. And with motivational Mars now in partnership with the Gemini Sun and Jupiter, you can expect red-hot brainstorms and exciting conflagrations of great magnitude. Enlist friends and research options in the manifestation of your dreams. Aspirations and travel are themes. Go for the good.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Career, achievement and professional or social recognition and direction are themes as a powerful pack of planets in Gemini illuminate the path to happiness, success and well-being. You may have felt confused, frustrated or lost this winter, grappling with what to do and where to go. Now that the storm has lifted, you can clearly see the road ahead. Personal responsibility and self-care are golden keys. Keep them handy.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Inspiration is a theme and you may find yourself going to great lengths to discover, explore and experience it. On the other hand, muses may be showing up in every nook and cranny of your life. Whatever the manifestation, you are certain to be chasing some of your most cherished hopes and dreams, cultivating uplifting influences and nurturing spiritual enrichment. Practice inner and outer peace.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Sweet, sensitive, beautiful, bountiful Venus moves into Cancer and your solar 9th house of the higher self this week for a month long stay. As a result, you discover the magical joy of loving without attachment and giving without expectation. Grace comes via compassion and acceptance, letting go of resentment and cultivating attitudes of gratitude. Why create suffering for yourself and others? Live and let live.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Gemini is your opposite sign and balance when you find yourself living beyond your means or over the top. Stop, look and listen. Examine the facts, cultivate a rational approach and bank on what you know rather than investing in illusionary fantasy. Seek the advice and input of wise teachers and time-honored practitioners. It’s fun to explore and discover; the time has come to get down and dirty. Make a commitment.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Voluptuous Venus in Cancer – your solar 7th house of others - illuminates your relationships with romantic, loving, artistically inviting light. Truth is, you are being presented with a variety of partnership opportunities that are certain to be pleasant and advantageous to your most cherished hopes, dreams and desires. The challenge is in gleaning the kernel from the corn. Focus on your part, be rational and make a plan.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Several planets in airy Gemini support and encourage heartfelt authenticity and right-minded action. The world is your oyster and it’s time to harvest pearls. Many months of preparation have lead to where you are today. You have tilled the soil, planted seeds and nurtured the seedlings. Now it’s time to water the garden and let Mother Nature do her part. Focus on good health; take care of your body and feed your soul.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Home and family life continues as themes. Domestic beauty inspires creativity. It is so much fun to experience the results of your work, that you may find yourself wanting to do more. Flowers enhance wellness; surround yourself with natural artistic beauty and bounty. Changes and challenges with siblings and relatives are happening for good reason. Focus on personal truth and detach from the outcome.

Full Moon Eclipse Magic, Mountainfilm, Majesty and Magnificence
A full Moon lunar eclipse [May 24th @10:26 pm MDT] and Mountainfilm in Telluride promises a literally “moving mountains” Memorial Day weekend for all who find themselves in the little town at the end of our rainbow-flooded, magnificently breath-taking, beautiful box canyon.
Melting snows, flowing waterfalls, raging rivers, budding aspen and azure mountain bluebirds surround us. Venus, Jupiter and Saturn are evening stars. The wind blows hard and strong from Utah’s hot-heat, red-rock desert as locals, visitors and travelers gather in theaters, parks, restaurants, cafes and auditoriums to view stunning films and discuss outrageous topics.
Many moons have come and gone since the first Telluride Mountainfilm Festival emerged in the summer of 1979. From the hearts and souls of a few rugged, gifted individualists – mountaineers, outdoorsmen, athletes, writers, artists - came a baker’s dozen of hand-crafted films, films that set the stage for decades of earth-centered awakening, environmental enlightenment and eye and heart-opening spiritual experience. I think of Bill and Susan Kees, Lito Tejada-Flores, Peter and Ellen Shelton, Yvon Choinard, Royal Robbins, Rick Silverman, Michael Covington, Jeff Campbell…and so many others I did not and do not know.
This weekend, Mountainfilm celebrates 35 years of sustainable right action, something few can claim. Congratulations, and special thanks to the pioneers, adventurers, climbers and inventors who carved and placed the stones in this amazingly solid foundation of evolving evolutionary awareness.
The planets align, the videos roll, the Moon grows full, and here we are. Enjoy the movies, magic and majesty of the the Sun, the Moon, the Earth, the planets and the stars. Here's to the memories - lived, loved, lost and forever playing in the eternal, multi-universal theatrical field of the akasha.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) The Gemini-Sagittarius full Moon lunar eclipse quickly follows the third of seven exact Pluto [Capricorn] – Uranus [Aries] squares, amping up the already potent potential of these days, weeks and times. The Ram is especially receptive to this electromagnetism, like a crystalline antennae that picks up, channels and transmits energy and information. Use your power wisely, for your own and other’s good.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The third of three consecutive eclipses, the May 24th full Moon brings several financially poignant issues and agendas to a head. The May 9th Taurus new Moon marked a major turning point and powerful new beginning for you personally. Immersed in rebirth and crafting plans for the future, you have started a magnificent new life journey. Embrace the power of the present; be here now.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) Hallelujah and happy trails! The May 24th lunar eclipse shines light upon the most important relationships, experiences and issues of your life. Who you are with, what you are doing, how you are feeling and the events that pop up this week are rich with magical clues for solving one of life’s most mysterious puzzles: What is happiness? Smile as answers unfold like a most-cherished novel. Embrace the day.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) No doubt, these last few weeks have been charged with ups and downs, agony and ecstasy. Eclipse windows are perennial experiences of power and passion, enlightenment and epiphany for Moonchildren. The gold is in the experience, how you react to it and, ultimately, what you do with it. Getting what you want depends upon knowing what you want. One good wish does nothing. One good decision changes everything.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) While you may have had a rough start out of the gate a couple weeks back, now you are hitting your stride, off and running for the gold. Hopes, dreams and wishes are in line for fruition. Just keep your mind and heart open, eyes on the road and your feet on the ground. Attitudes of gratitude, positive thinking and healthy living guarantee success. Refrain from egoistic indulgence and hubris. Connect with friends, enjoy life.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) The Taurus lunar month began on May 9th with a powerful solar eclipse. You may have been placed in a position of guru, teacher or saint as the wheel of fortune turned in time with life’s most poignant losses and gains. Understanding the balance between personal power and humility, self-indulgence and helping others, as well as not getting overwhelmed by imperfection, are all keys to success. Do not weaken.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) While Taurus is symbiotically connected to Libra via voluptuous Venus, the truth is that there are always slight adjustments in understanding and accepting the reality versus the ideal. People often let you down, disappoint and surprise you with their unruly, rude or rash behavior. So, what’s new? Why struggle with expectation and disappointment when you can simply enjoy your own magical, miraculous life here on Earth?
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) As the second half of your solar year unwinds, take note of the amazing effect and power you have over your own life. Health and happiness take place within the mind, body, heart and soul. What are you doing to self-nurture your own wealth and well-being? With so many awesome talents and abilities, there are no good reasons or excuses when it comes to using what you have to work with. Enjoy the bounty.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Happy Gemini-Sagittarius full Moon lunar eclipse! Breathe in the light of la luna as moonbeams dance and spirits rise. You have come full circle and are standing upon the precipice of a brave new world. Your life hopes, dreams and visions have been re-carved and re-created via the magically evolutionary process of experience. Older and wiser, you are now ready to prune the bush and nurture the garden. Go for gold.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) With the third of seven exact Pluto-Uranus squares now under your belt, you are well equipped with tools for understanding the function of these radical feelings, experiences and times. When push comes to shove, it is all about and up to you. Accepting full responsibility for your health, happiness and well-being is the golden key. Success is in knowing the only thing you can possibly change or control is you.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Birth and rebirth take place within the heart and soul. You are a magical miracle of life, living in a magnificent time of great potential and power. And yet, it’s easy to get caught up in all the failures and foibles of humankind’s physical, social and political abuse, neglect, violence and inequity. Your challenge is to embrace the world’s pain and suffering and still cultivate the courage of a warrior. Do not give up on positive change.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Challenges abound, both personally and professionally, and yet you are somehow able to maintain calm within the storm. Clear, concise, efficient means of communication remains a theme this week. Meanwhile, you start seeing the effects of how your personal actions have changed your closest, most cherished relationships and commitments. Follow your intuition and cultivate inner truth.

Steadfast Taurus Morphs into Lithe & Lissome Gemini
May in Colorado is a month of embracing beauty, pounding rain, shimmering rainbows, budding trees, restless winds, raging rivers and – overall - predictable duality. The fixed earth sign of Taurus is solid and staunch, steadfast and reliable. The Taurus zodiac month - which lasts from approximately April 19th to May 20th – provides stable ground upon which flora can take root and fauna can take the first steps of life. The primal thrust of Aries, with its imperative mission to survive, settles and calms in the embracing arms of the Taurus Mother Earth. The Aries thrill of adventure, fed by the tonic of courage, has morphed into the down-to-earth Taurus appreciation for what has been discovered, which is nurtured by the soothing comfort of simply enjoying it.
In April, Aries morphs into Taurus. In May, Taurus morphs into Gemini. Just like the natural progressions of the seasons, each zodiac sign emerges from the sign preceding it, taking its teachings and lessons, trials and triumphs along the way. Like a suitcase packed for safari or rifle loaded for bear, each sign carries the resources and ammunition necessary for experiencing the quintessential essence of its coinciding, synchronistic month and season. And all this, due to the wisdom and grace of experiencing what has gone before.
May, which provides us with lush green pastures of tranquility, fertility and natural beauty, grazing Bulls, raindrops on rooftops and fresh asparagus shoots along the fence lines and ditches, also ushers in the crafty, curious, mutable month of joke-loving Gemini. The time of the Twins - tricksters, coyotes, communicators, comedians, kokopellis, magicians, metaphysicians, alchemists, thinkers, writers, teachers, doctors and actors – is a time of multi-faceted, multi-dimensional feelings, experiences, relationships and opportunities. It is a time to laugh and learn, teach, travel, explore and discover. Flexibility, resiliency, humor, adaptability and curiosity are keys for unlocking these interesting days and the intriguing doors that lead to mind-expanding scenes and situations. This is where and when we see the fixed rigidity of Taurus shape-shift itself into the lithe, lissome body of the yogi.
May the muses of May be friends and allies, guides and guardians as you journey through the final days of fertile Taurus into the wide-open spaces of airy Gemini. And don’t forget, we are closing in on the third and last of three consecutive eclipses on May 24th – the Gemini-Sagittarius full Moon lunar eclipse – so keep your eyes, ears and heart open to everything and everyone that comes your way. These are transformational, metamorphic days and times. Good luck!
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) As Mercury and Venus move into restless Gemini, the pace quickens. Ideas blossom under the warm sunshine of increasing light; perceptual illumination is a theme. You can now see what was once invisible, especially in relation to personal patterns and behaviors. The universe and cosmos favor enlightened change, rather than the radical hand of force. Make wise choices and good decisions, i.e. delight in virtue.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The last days of the Taurus zodiac month unfold this week, candles flicker and cakes are cut. The recent Taurus solar eclipse new Moon has presented you with a veritable pot of gold regarding personal choice and opportunity. Naturally resourceful and self-sufficient, the time has come to build that yellow brick road to your dreams. One day and one brick at a time, lay the foundation, build the castle.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) Our primal star, the Sun, moves into Gemini on May 20th and opens the door on a zodiac month of birthday celebrations and personal new beginnings. There is no doubt this year is one of great spiritual significance and reward. Compassion, surrender and humility are golden keys to awakening and grace. Seek out enlightened texts and teachings. Meditation, yoga and prayers are allies. Make them your amigos.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) As eclipse energy blossoms and grows, Moonchildren discover magic in the mundane. The last few years have delivered a myriad of multi-faceted, multi-dimensional opportunities for growth. Change and challenge are themes. Today, you can see the meaning behind the mystery. Karma is an ever-present energy, it’s an equation of action and consequence. Take your time, do your best and accept what comes.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Gemini loves motion and Leo likes excitement. The air-fire combination of these two zodiac signs manifests in themes of travel, entertainment, recreation and education. Seek out playmates, comrades and companions who share your spice for life and love of living. Communicate desires and pursue passions. Motivation for achievement and recognition remains strong. Smile and laugh, live and let live.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) The upcoming full Moon lunar eclipse places you in a rather strong position when it comes to making choices and decisions. Recent events regarding family members and close friends added new factors to the equation. You can no longer just stand by and observe, it’s time to get involved. Just make sure you stand by your values, maintain personal truth and integrity. Others will follow your lead. Focus on virtue.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Fellow air-sign Gemini gives birth to a less grounded, less practical zodiac month – one more curious and questioning – a time to learn, explore and discover. Spiritual teachings and enlightened philosophies may appeal to your ever-expanding desire for esoteric knowledge. You may feel uplifted and enlightened, but remember, it takes more than awakening to achieve. Just don’t forget to practice what you preach.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Passions deepen as days grow longer and warmer. New beginnings in your most important relationships promise a more realistic, grounded and steadfast approach to pairing and sharing. Hope springs eternal, it is a beautiful, wonderful thing. See the positives in your places and positions; perception is the key to awakening. Wanting what you have is far better than wanting what you don’t have. Choose joy.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) The upcoming Gemini/Sagittarius full Moon lunar eclipse is one of great power and significance for the Archer. Balancing your personal wants and needs with those of others is a theme now. Make sure you are clear in your communication, consider what others have to say and focus on fair, equitable solutions. There is plenty of time and opportunity for everyone. Don’t stress out, relax. Patience is a virtue.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Be compassionate and humble this week as the Moon grows full. Others may see or feel you as being too controlling, bossy or authoritarian. Rather than get mad and frustrated, let it slide. Be true to you and know you are right – for you and you only. Let others take their own time on their own road. Make accommodations, but don’t go overboard. If others are always leaning on you, how can they learn to walk on their own?
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) The winds warm and pressure lightens as the last zodiac month of spring begins. Opening your heart to love, seeing the awesome beauty in and all around you, as well as finding joy in life’s most simple pleasures, guarantees joy, success and happiness. Smile in your abundance, cultivate compassion in your relationships and keep it light when it comes to judgment. Not everyone is as smart and clever as you are.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Focus on hearth and home, friends and family this week and zodiac month. You may discover great joy in gardening, cleaning or simply being you. Maternal roles and nurturing others are themes. Children awaken the child within and you may find yourself strolling down memory lane. Connect with siblings, explore your neighborhood. Cultivate inner well-being and take good care of you.

Celestial Phenomena, Mother Nature & a New Moon Solar Eclipse
I’m writing these words just one hour prior to the exact Sun-Moon conjunction of the May 9th New Moon solar eclipse at 19º 31' Taurus [6:29 pm MDT]. I can feel the magnificent nurturing power of the Mother Earth. I’m listening to raindrops fall upon our metal roof as brilliant sunrays bathe my shoulders in warm yellow light. To the east, a shimmering rainbow glistens above wide-open, deep green fields, tiny Norwood nestled below the expansive arc. And even further east, Telluride and its mist-covered mountains lay hidden behind a slate-blue sheet of rain, lost to the eyes of those outside the squall.
All day clouds played peek-a-boo with the Sun; the air was rich with the smell of fertility, tulips opened to rain, meadowlarks sang in sunlight, white doves flew across the sky and the world was filled with the promise of renewal and grace.
In a very short time, we will align with the Sun and Moon in the celestial phenomena of a new Moon solar eclipse. Taking place in the first cross-quarter week of the natural year, this new Moon is also sandwiched between two lunar eclipses – both full Moons – and heralds perhaps the most potent and powerful cosmic new beginning of 2013.
For all of us, this is a time to honor the natural world, to honor our bodies and ourselves, our inherent natural resources, our own talents and abilities. It is a time of personal responsibility and steadfastness, a time to live within the realm of peace and natural abundance. Taurus loves life’s most simple pleasures. May you open your heart to what you have, what you love and what you are. Blessings and peace.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) The May 9th new Moon solar eclipse is extra-potent. The Aries new Moon of April 10th opened the door on a new, personal solar year. Birthday celebration time is over. Now it’s time to get serious and realistic about your life and how you show up in it. Taurus energy favors accountability, responsibility and patience. Do the work.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) Patience, perseverance and focus are traditional characteristics of the Bull. This week’s new Moon solar eclipse amplifies these and other Taurean themes. The cosmos favor your inherent, natural abilities. Show up in the most self-responsible and self-authentic ways possible, lead by example and maintain inner calm amidst the chaos of outer force and influences. This year is big, do the very best you can.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) This week’s new Moon solar eclipse portends a powerful year of spiritual development and enlightenment via surrender, forgiveness and compassion. Immerse yourself in nature, accept everything as it is and understand the ultimate folly in attempting to control outcomes. Ego dissolution is a friend and ally on your journey through the forest. Ride the river and go with the flow as you live and let go.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) A series of three eclipses directs cosmic attention to your most cherished hopes, dreams and aspirations. Recognize the difference between fantasy and reality as you identify what you truly desire. Self-authenticity comes via self-honesty and a daily practice of self-care. Cultivate relationships with people who place value on and work in fields of your identified aspirations. Focus on steadfast action and patience.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) The May 9th cross-quarter solar eclipse new Moon is extra potent for the Lion as it forces attention and compels change regarding personal, social and professional goals and aspirations. Commitments, significant others, domestic environment, family relationships and individual desire face off in a dynamic dance of will and wisdom. It’s time to re-create your vision of accomplishment. Take your time.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) An enchanting cosmic harmonic resonates throughout the heavens as the Sun and Moon, Mars and Mercury eclipse each other in fellow earth-sign Taurus and initiate an extended period of enhanced perception and understanding regarding physical and spiritual worlds. You are suddenly – and finally – aware of your personal importance in the quality of your life and relationships. Optimism is the golden key.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Libra’s symbiotic relationship with Taurus resounds this week as planetary co-ruler Venus enters airy-fairy Gemini and a powerful solar eclipse awakens a year of metaphysical magic and mystery. Enchanted forests await discovery as you experience the mystical amidst the mundane. Spiritual texts, altered states and separate realities beckon. Seek enlightenment and explore new territory. Practice!
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) The Taurus zodiac month heralds the second half of your solar year, when you leave the familiar territory of the interior and venture out into unfamiliar exterior worlds. Other people, places and things emerge; the Universe offers up multi-faceted jewels of possibility and potential. Examine each opportunity and individual that comes your way. You are beginning a fresh new year of important relationship. Eyes open wide.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) The Taurus new Moon solar eclipse vibrates with themes of self-responsibility, self-acceptance and self-improvement. Happiness is an inside job and it all takes place within the heart. The power of choice is magical and awesome. As you stand upon the precipice of deep personal reckoning, gaze into the chasm of the mystical soul. Feel your inherent connection with the cosmos and follow the river of light.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) The importance of this week and eclipse lunation cannot be overstated when it comes to the expression of your heartfelt truth. Living life in harmony with that truth is essential to your personal liberty and success. A leader and initiator, you are being asked to utilize your natural, inherent creative talents and abilities in the manifestation of a more efficient, effective world. Do your best, follow your heart.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Another cross-quarter day and solar eclipse new Moon heralds a powerful time of personal reckoning and rebirth. Naturally inventive, efficient and resourceful, you may discover that helping yourself actually improves the world. The means of effective change comes from individual efforts and accomplishments. Others see the genius of your perspective and actions. Be the change you want the world to be.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Communication, in all its shapes and sizes, emerges as your most effective ally this week and upcoming lunar year. The catch is in understanding just how far to go. Others may not understand or have the ability to comprehend your deep-seeing, deep-feeling intuition and understanding. Most people live life on the edge of perception, missing out on what’s really behind the façade. Cultivate healthy boundaries.

Earth & Space, Eclipses & Planets, Here & Now
I don’t know about you, but these last several weeks have been as challenging and transformational as it gets for me. Of course, it makes sense astrologically - we are in the middle of that recurring, ongoing and demanding Uranus-Pluto square, as well as being “under the influence” of three eclipses in a row – but - heaven help me – I still find myself wondering whether I’m here, or there, and then just accepting that I’m somewhere in between.
Castaneda’s altered states and separate realities seem to resonate for me these days. I understand the interconnectedness of quantum mechanical physics, the mystical experiences of spiritual pursuit and the overall grounding power of living in the physical body - right here, right now - on Earth. Embracing the present as forever changing, a cresting wave on a constantly moving sea; a hungry, crackling fire, quickly consuming the fuel upon which it feeds, burning everything in its path; I am aware that all is temporary.
We live and love, feel and steel ourselves to pain, yet find that same pain to be the primary, and possibly most important, ingredient in the metaphysical recipe for inner change. Like the springtime garden and the enigmatic process of eventually harvesting fruit from seed, we break open our hearts like we break open the soil. The sharper the shovel, the faster we go. The deeper we go, the richer the bounty.
Our hearts are gardens of the soul. We break open our hearts with the sharp tools of suffering and loss, joy and ecstasy. We nurture the heartfelt garden with a practice of introspection, acceptance, renunciation and redemption. We come to understand that pain generates the magical, spiritually imperative, enriching ingredient necessary for happiness and inner peace: compassion. Compassion, the awesomely fertile nutrient that provides us with the opportunity to forgive, accept and, ultimately, heal and grow. We amend the soil, renew the garden.
Death and rebirth keep us turning on the Wheels of Fate and Fortune as Destiny’s graceful hand reaches out to offer us the power of choice. I have recently experienced several deaths - and one big disappointment - due to natural causes, suicide and addiction. I see repetitious themes of self-sabotage, self-pity, self-abuse and self-denial. In my own life and being, I feel blessed and grateful. I know I am lucky and fortunate. And yet, I still struggle with life’s daily challenges; the ego in all its disguises, attachments and desires, other people’s agendas and attitudes, mechanical breakdowns, the weather…
Discombobulated at times, and in joyful celebration at others, I smile at my humanness and laugh in harmony with the cosmos. It’s a dream, a story, an illusion. Planetary squares, three eclipses in a row – onward Cosmic traveler – it is time to till the soil, sharpen the shovel and go deep! Good luck and many blessings…
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) With extra-strong eclipse energy in orb, the Ram must walk a path of focus, patience and perseverance. Rash, risky, compulsive behaviors must be bridled and restrained. Anger and impulse can prove lethal and resentment poisons the soul. Channel passion and desire into positive actions and deeds. Be cool as you find your way through the forest.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) As you walk through the week, pay close attention to your internal dialog. Observe thoughts and ideas like a witness. Identify repetitive patterns and reactions. Determine the value and intention of what you are thinking. Are you going in new directions intellectually or perpetuating old ones? Eclipse energy encourages expansion. Body, mind and spirit.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) As Uranus and Pluto gear up to make an exact square on May 20th – the day the Sun enters Gemini – focus on maintaining a daily spiritual practice. A bounty of planets in Taurus – your solar 12th house of past and present life karma – encourages divine connection via ego dissolution. Meditation and prayer are tools for ascension. Do the inner work.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Another exact hit of the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square takes place this month and brightly illuminates what is most imperative and first-in-line for change. Personal and professional goals may clash with relationship roles and responsibilities; partners may appear controlling and demanding. This is a major transformational process. Do the next right thing.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) The Moon wanes and starlight brightens as we approach the May 9th new Moon solar eclipse. Taking place in fellow fixed-sign Taurus, you may feel the strong pulls and electromagnetic forces of the cosmos. Powerful winds of change blow through your heart and soul Seek out the people you respect and admire for guidance and direction. It’s time to grow.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Looking for love in all the wrong places? Or simply just looking and not finding what you want? In all cases and matters of the heart, follow your intuition. Focus on gratitude, especially in relation to life and life’s most simple pleasures. Happiness is an inside job, it’s a choice and up to you. Eclipse energy encourages exploration and travel. Seek and you shall find.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) In the middle of a powerful eclipse cycle, it is best to ride the tide and go with the flow. Witness internal dialogues and repetitive behavior patterns. Are you banging your head against the same old walls? If so, this suffering is the golden key to transformation. Accept that you are the one and only one capable of changing your life. One day at a time.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Powerful and poignant, these days and times are rife with cultural change and planetary transformation. And you are an important part and piece of the puzzle. Your thoughts, words and deeds resound and resonate throughout the cosmos. Recognize the impact of your presence upon personal and collective worlds. Know your power; use it wisely, for the good.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Finding your way through the intriguing, beguiling forest of life’s miraculous journey is an exciting, uplifting, challenging and confounding venture. A natural explorer and discoverer, you may find yourself most at home on the road or in the throes of travel. Accept change, but strive for the stability of personal credibility. It will get you where you need to go.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Lucky or unlucky you, it’s all in how you perceive and define it! In the middle of the most transformational, revolutionary individual and collective catharsis in decades, you are up front and center stage. Others look at and to you for behavioral clues and direction. Lead by example and work via attraction rather than promotion. Hang in there, do your best.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Revolutionary ruler Uranus squares passion and power-obsessed Pluto this month, planting explosive charges in the hidden corners and secret spaces of your life and times. This week, be on the lookout for your own inner dynamite and the self-activated behaviors that light the fuse. Calm and compassionate, slow down for fast relief. Life is short, enjoy it.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) As the countdown to the May 9th solar eclipse new Moon continues, breathe deep and take a good, long look around you. How much do you really see? Are you caught up in the superficial trappings of what others call success or are you living in harmony and support of your own hard-won, well-earned values? See the beauty, live in the bounty. Be true to you.

Looking Back and Feeling the Rush in the River of Life
Looking back and feeling the rush of emotion that forever flows in the River of Life is something I do, on occasion. Weddings and funerals, birth and death; those poignant moments of love and pain, loss and gain that snag me like a fallen tree submerged beneath the water’s shimmering, shining surface. Hiding beneath the illusionary boundary of reflected sunlight dancing upon constantly moving water, the hidden branches reach out and catch me as I float along, impede progress, stop motion and turn my attention inward.
I recently crossed the Continental Divide to the place of my birth, childhood and young adult life - the land of Denver - that burgeoning, ever-expanding metropolis nestled along the Front Range of Colorado’s magnificent Rocky Mountains. I went to celebrate my older brother Jeff’s birthday and also attend the memorial funeral service for my father’s oldest brother, my Uncle Carl Frances Hansen. He was the oldest and last living sibling in my Father’s family of origin. Killing two birds with one stone - not really an appropriate analogy, considering the paradox - but one I choose to make.
Both events were celebrations of life. One was casual, with siblings and spouses, nieces and nephews. It took place in a noisy brewpub on the I-25 corridor, with easy access and nouveau chic cuisine. The other was with a much larger group of relatives, family and extended family in the Blessed Sacrament Church – the church in which my Father, his brothers and sister went to grade school, attended mass and learned to pray. There is a stained glass window in the altarpiece there created and dedicated to the memory of my paternal grandmother, Gertrude Daly Hansen, who died when my Father was young. It is a space that always gives me pause. I consider the history, the feelings and events that transpired there, the countless coming of age stories that live and breathe in those walls and windows – invisible, eternal, mysterious. It is the same place that we held a memorial mass for my Dad, John Paul, in 1986. The same pulpit upon which I stood to read the poem I wrote for my father in honor of his life and death, a poem Of the Heart.
Uncle Carl’s daughter Jan and granddaughter Jinnie both got up to speak at the same pulpit. They spoke of the man they loved – Father and Grandfather - a man of great love and laughter, abiding strength and courageous spirit. After the ceremony, we gathered in the reception hall, ate dinner, visited, and watched an incredibly touching slide show on the life of Carl Frances Hansen. Old black and white photographs of toddlers and parents; children growing up and becoming young adults. The evolution of a family.
Pictures of three handsome young men in uniform, smiling and embracing, going off to fight a war in the Pacific, saying goodbye to their sweet, beautiful, younger sister. Brothers in arms. And all coming back in the 40’s to the Queen City of the Plains, the land of their birth. Looking to find their way home, following their destiny. And then there was Carl as a man - James Dean in a cowboy hat - brawny and beautiful, smiling, surrounded by horses and wide-open fields. And not long after, two young daughters in each of his arms.
Family, family, family. In my heart, in my soul. In your heart, in your soul. It is who we are, it is where we come from. Family is gold. For all of us who love and laugh, live and remember; love and pain, loss and gain. God Bless. And may we all - now and forever – follow our hearts, and – now and forever - cherish our memories, and - now and forever - rest in peace.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The first lunar eclipse of 2013 illuminates issues hiding beneath the surface of our physical, material world and lives. Whatever lies hidden in the deep reaches of your subconscious – obsessions, compulsions, fears and demonic forces – is being pulled up and out. Deal with inner darkness via basic self-honesty and truth. Responsibility is freedom.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Hiding from the truth is simply living in darkness. This week’s lunar eclipse bestows the gift of inner and outer peace to those who walk their talk and travel the good red road of spirit. You know what is right and understand the equation of action and consequence. Life is a series of decisions and choices. Balance and integrity are allies. Live in the light.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) We spiral through space, immersed in an ever-changing flow of frequencies. Ruled by Mercury, planet of information via invisible and visible sources, you may find yourself picking up messages and images on a variety of channels. Pay attention to what you receive via intuition, dreams and synchronicity. Focus on self-improvement. Do the work.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) This spring we experience three eclipses in a row, and this week is the first one. In tandem with the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square, we find ourselves in the eye of a virtual hurricane of illumination, awakening and transformation. Especially targeted are deep-seated and practiced behavior patterns that ultimately work against us. Be open to change.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) The pressure to release long-standing patterns and beliefs that hold you back and prevent progress intensifies as the celestial window opens upon a series of three solar and lunar eclipses. The first of April 25th focuses on the core values upon which you build your life and the physical relationships you have in it. Accept responsibility for your part, do your best.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Security, self-sufficiency, acquiring and relinquishing are themes this week as the year’s first lunar eclipse shines light upon what needs to stay and what needs to go. Take personal inventory of your life and possessions. The more we have, the more we have to take care of. Take a realistic look at your life and release what you have outgrown. Be here now.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Full Moons bring light to dark and it is no mistake that this week you are seeing people, places and things exactly as they are. Rosy illusions and idealistic visions of fairy-tale hopes and dreams dissolve in the sunshine of truth. Boundaries, commitments and goals are clarified as you focus on facts and simply do the next right thing. Live and let go, follow the light.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) The Taurus-Scorpio full Moon is perennially one of the most seductive lunations of the year. Lunar eclipses signal major endings and new beginnings, so this week, expect to feel the cosmos shifting sands and turning clocks upon a metamorphic personal new era. Stand in the light of goodness, live in the light of truth and shimmer in the light of virtue.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) You may find yourself immersed in a sea of emotion, surrendering to feelings and forces must greater than yourself. Keep your head above water as you surf the waves and swim the mystical seas of spirit. You are being asked to connect with a higher power, a divine source and co-create your life. Let go of ego and accept the magic. Relinquish, release and relax.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Pressure to change and the desire to change run neck-to-neck in a race of personal awakening and enlightenment. Fortunately, you are feeling calmer and more stable than you have in months. You understand that security is ultimately an illusion and that what you think is forever is always temporary. Behind the clouds, the Sun is always shining.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) The Wheel of Fortune turns as the Hand of Fate marks a turning point in your yearly cycle of birth, death, rebirth and transformation. Issues of authority emerge in a dance of individual and shared responsibility. We have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. How does your pursuit interface with others? Give and take, negotiate and compromise.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) The Taurus-Scorpio full Moon lunar eclipse is one of great power and potential for the Fish, as it marks a time of visionary insight and intellectual awakening. Communication and education are themes. Seek enlightenment via spiritual teachings, texts and philosophies. Research, travel and explore. When the student is ready, the teacher appears.

The Taurus Earth Umbrella Opens, Nurtures and Sustains Life
The all-powerful Sun and warrior Mars move in to calm, steady Taurus this week to join the mythological goddess of love and beauty - sweet, seductive Venus – and in so doing, the cosmic clock slows its pace and settles in to the zodiac’s first fixed earth sign. Taurus heralds the second month of spring, when the seed thrust forth in Aries finds a safe, secure place in which to settle, make a home and put down roots.
Taurus represents the physical body and the physical world in which the physical body finds itself. Physical senses, needs and capabilities are awakened and aroused. Just as Aries gives birth to life, Taurus sustains it. Food, shelter, support, nourishment and the provision of life’s basic necessities come under the aesthetically pleasing, Venus-ruled Taurus umbrella.
The unbridled, impulsive, rash primal urges of the Aries zodiac month – and this last one has been rife with crash, booms and bangs – must surrender – in handcuffs or kicking and screaming – to a power greater and stronger than self-will, the good old equation of action and consequence.
We must keep ourselves, our relationships and our lives in good working order to perpetuate, sustain and preserve them. Taurus is all about practical, realistic thinking, acting and being. Good luck and may the gentle grace of the Taurus Bull be your vehicle and guide through the strongest, most persistent month of spring.
p.s. And, I almost forgot! Earth Day, the quintessential Taurus holiday, synchronistically takes place under that same beautiful, verdant second-month-of-spring umbrella. April 22nd gives us tons of fertile piles of opportunity with which to nurture the gardens of our Mother Earth. Let's plant actual and metaphorical seeds of intention and desire as we take action to provide and sustain organic life in all shapes and sizes on our magnificent, magical planet. Embrace and celebrate nature, in all its beauty and bounty.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Venus, the Sun and ruler Mars move in to Taurus this week. Look for a subtle shift in perception and priority regarding personal desires and how to manifest what you want. Patience and perseverance are allies in your quest. Accept others exactly as they are and identify what you can to make challenging relationships better. If you want a dog, don’t buy a cat.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Take a deep breath and a sigh of relief. The Sun and ruler Venus have left your solar 12th house of gestation and moved into the 1st house of rebirth. As planets align, put your best foot forward. As you initiate a fresh, personal solar year, remember you are also in the first phase of a recurring 12-year Jupiter cycle of expansion and growth. Explore and discover.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) With jovial, good-luck, good fortune Jupiter transiting the mid-degrees of Gemini, you can look forward to several weeks of opportunity regarding expansion and growth. The Universe is an infinite field of unlimited potential and possibility, fertile ground in which to plant seeds of intention and desire. Self-reflect upon what you really want. Prepare the soil.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Friends and lovers emerge, attract and engage you in co-creative dances of motivation and desire as Venus, Mars and the Sun enter your solar 11th house of social causes and camaraderie. Open your heart to others, share hopes and dreams with those you have common interests and goals. You may find great pleasure and satisfaction via fellowship. Get out and get involved.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Generous Jupiter in Gemini illuminates the enormous value of positive, optimistic friends and influences. Look for the good in others, move in affirmative directions and seek out people and situations of high value and beneficial potential. A fresh surge of planetary power in your solar 10th house of achievement encourages accomplishment. Focus on goals.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) The Taurus zodiac month is good medicine for the Virgo virgin. In the quest of virtue rather than virulence, the primal warrior spirit of Aries can feel harsh, rash and radical. At last! Now you see greening grasses, budding flora and a softer, more embracing world in which to live and thrive. Seek high vistas and higher-self experience. Explore the world.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Taurus and Libra are symbiotically connected by their sign’s joint planetary ruler - velvety, voluptuous Venus. This week, the goddess of love and beauty enters Taurus, shimmering rays of goodness and grace upon both. The Libra light is more oblique, however, and requires a slight shift of perspective and position to be in the glow. Move and adjust.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Plenty of stimuli for self-improvement remain front and center as male and female planets Mars and Venus shift signs and enter your solar 7th house of long-term commitment and marriage. With whom you are living and sleeping come under sharp attack or strong attraction in a dance of love, desire and will. Do your best to be your best; life is what you make it.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Self-indulgence and self-fueled fires cool as jet engines idle and reboot. Running too fast and strong taxes the system and can be ultimately self-destructive. You are being asked to slow the pace and focus on what is right in front of you. Patience and perseverance are golden allies now. Progress comes over time and requires practice. Take it one day at a time.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Smiles broaden as miles pass by. Hearts open with the wild potential and possibility of our ever-expanding universe. The world is your oyster and precious, shimmering pearls await those willing to co-create. Take a moment to feel your inner power, the creative spirit of love and beauty that lives within. Embrace the fires of desire and shine your light. Create!
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) You may feel overwhelmed by all the “to do’s” and “should do’s” this week, but, after all, it’s spring! Clean up, fix up and start up projects of domestic and life-improvement as Mars, Venus and the Sun shine light upon your path. Metaphorical gardens are themes. Be a good farmer. Prepare and enrich the soil, plant seeds and don’t forget food and water!
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) A growing, increasing busy-ness may have you bustling about - buying, cleaning, fixing, planting and transplanting. You may be traveling here and there, going in circles, but getting it done. Write notes and make lists. Communication is a theme and is most effective when you are concise and to the point. Listen rather than talk, don’t interrupt and cultivate patience.

Onward Cosmic Travelers...Awaken & Go Forth!
The Aries new Moon is in many ways the true beginning of the natural astrological year. As the Sun, Moon and Earth form their annual conjunction in the zodiac’s first sign – which can take place on any day following the Sun’s entrance into Aries at Spring Equinox – electromagnetic forces and gravitational pulls align in a seasonal dance of rebirth and renewal.
It is time to gather pots, till the soil, plant seeds and start starts. Days have grown noticeably longer, warmer temperatures – albeit still frigid, frosty mornings and snowy days appear – encourage hope, generate movement and instill confidence to go forth.
The recent Aries New Moon of April 10th delivered a super-dose of self-centered Aries energy to all nations and neighborhoods around the world. Five planets [Uranus, Sun, Moon, Mars and Venus] and one minor planet [Eris] united in a dance of personal awakening and individual consciousness, zapping us to see the light and get with the program of responsible, illuminated selfhood. All this within the context of an inter-connected, inter-dependent, interwoven tapestry of natural, synthetic, technological and virtual realities. We are no longer alone. Our actions, thoughts and deeds – even our intentions – affect the evolution of life on Earth, and beyond. We are co-creators in a divine, cosmic opus Magnus. Everything we do and say emanates throughout the cosmos. A butterfly in Brazil affects polar bears in the Arctic. We, as humans, have finally accepted the fact that we are no longer separate from or different than other life here on Earth. We are part and particles of the same chemicals and components of animals, rocks and dust. We are, in fact, made of the same cosmic stuff as the entire Universe. We are the stars.
In knowing that I am an individual, different and unique, and yet essentially the same as everyone and everything on Earth and in our Universe, I am at peace. I understand that my physical life is short, and precious. I know the Angel of Death stalks me every day and each moment that I live. I embrace the clouds and rain, glimmering sunlight and crashing thunder. Ever-changing, ever-flowing rivers of emotion and experience carry me to new frontiers and fresh territories, lands of awesome wonder and enlightening discovery. I am blessed to be alive - right here, right now – no matter how dysfunctional, destructive or decadent these times may appear to be. I am exactly where I am supposed to be; thinking, writing, feeling and healing.
Good luck on your annual journey around the Sun. May you be blessed with the wild, wonderful, courageous spirit of Aries as you travel the road of life, death and rebirth. Solo, and yet, not alone, together on the path of heart. Onward Cosmic Travelers…go forth!

Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) A veritable battalion of planetary warriors in your sign – Wonder Woman, Princess Xena and god-of-war Mars included – lead the charge on your week. Close on the heels of an excitable Aries New Moon, you may feel all fired up and ready to go. However, the wisest warriors are those who temper anger with compassion and desire with wisdom. Good luck!
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) A powerful pack of planets in your solar 12th house continues to revive issues from the past and award you with the golden opportunity of resolution. The only requirements are compassion, forgiveness and the desire to move forward. Easier said than done, especially when you may be strongly attached to the outcome. Change yourself and change the world.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Perception and the definition of what you perceive are Gemini themes. Information comes in wild packages as fleet-footed messengers deliver news in rainbows of shapes, colors and sizes. Focus on inspiration and aspiration as you cultivate your highest hopes and dreams. Knowing what you want is the first step in the alchemical process of manifestation.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) The annual union of the Sun and Moon in the zodiac’s first sign [Aries] is, in many ways, the true start of the natural astrological year. And for Moonchildren, it is magical time of personal achievement and professional recognition. Others see you as competent, capable, motivated, ambitious and sweet. What a combo! Be good, enjoy the show.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Emanations of positive, uplifting energy impel you up and out of normal, everyday activities and routines. You may feel a strong desire to travel, explore and discover. Fresh territory and new vistas beckon. If you don’t get out, see and experience the world, you may become an unhappy, grumpy bear, so follow your heart. Smile with gratitude, enjoy the joy.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Springtime encourages fresh starts and new beginnings. This year the pull toward growth and ultimate blossoming is extra-strong. Tap into the inherent virtue and goodness of the Virgin as you go forth in your daily round. Professional goals and personal achievements are enhanced via clear, honest communication. Be truthful and authentic. Just be you.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) With a bunch of bodhisattvas [spiritual warriors] in your solar 7th house of others, you may find yourself surrounded by a bevy of bountiful beauties, battling for attention. Whatever the manifestation, know the Universe is calling for engagement, asking you to join the party or embrace a companion on your journey of spiritual enlightenment and discovery.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Stepping into thin air, you may find solid ground beneath your feet. The Aries sun-time and fresh new lunar cycle encourages a brave heart and strong spirit. If you find yourself engaged in battles of personal will, surrender to the divine river of universal flow and ride the raging current of cosmic power. After all, it’s evolutionary. We can’t fight Mother Nature, and win.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Excited, agitated, aroused, inspired or motivated, a variety of fiery Arien reactions to whatever comes your way are certain to manifest within and all around you. Rather than battle the ineffable natural powers of desire, embrace them with open arms. A natural born warrior, explorer and adventurer, this is your season to live and love. Seek and discover. But show up for work!
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 18) A powerful, excitable posse of planets in your solar 4th house of home, family and personal self excites action inside and outside. You may feel super-charged, motivated and ready-to-go when it comes to domestic improvements, spring-cleaning or tilling the soil. Focus on self-nurturing and earth-centered activities. Enjoy the warming trend, it’s just beginning!
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Springtime excites action and you may feel over-busy, over-committed or overwhelmed by all you have to do. Take a deep breath and focus on one thing and one day at a time. While you are an excellent organizer and genius of accomplishment, even wizards have their limits. Overburdening yourself is a prescription for misery. Stop while you’re still sane; throttle down.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) Movement and desire are par for the course this week. Spring has sprung, and with it you have also been regenerated and recharged. Follow your instincts and do what comes naturally. Smile and see the many blessings of which you are a part. Mother Nature nurtures inner peace and outer beauty now. Embrace the miracle of life, plant seeds and watch them grow.

Wonder Woman and Uranus-Pluto Go Underground
This is the last week I’ll be featuring Wonder Woman as a feminine icon of the Aquarian Age – at least for a while. As my new fantasy sister-in-arms and comic book comadre, she has been a much welcomed and long-awaited muse. Running into her on the Internet, researching her history and discovering the plethora of fabulous, magnificently imaginative and stunning artistic illustrations of her – created over a period of 70 years! - has been fun, entertaining and inspirational. Her presence of spirit is one of yin comfort and yang motivation. As one of America’s first feminists, WW holds the key to my heart. And, just like Uranus-Pluto, she may go out-of-sight, disappear, exit the radar screen, hide out and even go underground, but she will not be going away.
Uranus-Pluto, in its present square aspect, constellates the celestial battle of yin and yang, dark and light, good and evil. We all know the futility of fighting for dominance – physical, financial, sexual, psychological, spiritual, mental or material - and the illusion of wielding power over, well, anyone or anything. It may feel empowering at times, or like it is working as a means to an end, but it really does not work at all. Forcing solutions on problems creates more problems. And even if new problems aren’t immediately apparent, they are like seething lava, burning beneath the superficial surface of the new, enforced regime.
Our Universe seeks balance and resolution. Sunshine follows rain, it is darkest before dawn and it’s always calm before the storm. Everywhere we go on this magnificent planet Earth, we see the dance of Sun and Moon, stars and sky, river and ocean, bird and beast. We, as humans, want to grasp it all, hold it tight, never let go of what makes us feel good, makes us happy, secure and at peace. We seek the comfort of feeling worthwhile, significant in this wildly vast cosmic dream. And yet, in our hearts and souls, in our deepest inner knowing, we know we are nothing, like grains of sand or dust in the wind. Here and there, ultimately, gone in another tomorrow.
Throughout history, there have been kings and queens, benevolent rulers and brutal dictators. Peoples have lived and thrived, suffered and perished. Those in power, and those who rise to power, attempt to keep their power, and often go to great lengths to maintain it. In the name of…
And this is what Uranus-Pluto is all about: the function of self-awakening via a long, painful process of ego-busting - a psycho-emotional spiritual catharsis caused by a passionate attachment to power and self-will. The correct use of will and power, the use and misuse of power, enlightenment through truth and honesty, and the eternally karmic equations of action and consequence are themes. Whether we are looking at these times through our personal lens of perception, emotion and experience or the global, collective, cosmic lens, we are fighting a battle of love and kindness, where we must discover and cultivate our own inner goodness and use it as a weapon against abuse, injustice, killing, the destruction of life and the desecration of what is sacred.
I’m asking Wonder Woman to help me, how about you?
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The Moon, Neptune and Mercury in Pisces have you dreaming and possibly scheming while a hot, romantic Venus/Mars conjunction in Aries has you fired up and ready to love. Balance desire with patience and recognize the value of virtue. No matter how or what you feel, make sure you are not creating harm for yourself or anyone. Now or later.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Something hot and sweet from the past may spark desire and encourage action as motivator Mars and romantic Venus come together in your solar 12th house of past life memory and experience. Whatever happens, do not use your words or deeds in self-defacing or self-destructive ways. This month is all about compassion, forgiveness and grace. Be good and true to you.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Winds of change blow doors open and carry you in directions of unlimited possibility and opportunity. However, these new vistas and fresh frontiers may challenge existing commitments and responsibilities. What to do? Utilize the art of focus and live in the present. Make lists, set priorities and do the next right thing. Spring cleaning, organize your day.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Professional motivation and desire take centerstage as planets gather in your solar 10th house of achievement and career. You are feeling ambitious and want to be your own boss. Balance is the key here, especially where other people are concerned. Focus on the art of diplomacy while you get the job done, rain or shine. Stay the course.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Uplifted and encouraged, the Lion roars with spring-like passion and desire. Mars and Venus in your solar 9th house of exploration and discovery have you looking beyond the proverbial horizon for love and romance. Whether it is to enhance an existing relationship, or find a new one, your regenerated spirit is yearning to see the world. Happy trails!
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) As the rebirthing energy of spring paints landscapes green, warming the days and nights, you may feel the deep rumbling of desire in your heart and soul. Rather than ignore or deny it, challenge yourself to explore it. How are your intimate relationships? What can you do to enhance them? It takes courage to love and honor to commit. Consider the possibilities.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Moving in new directions and exploring fresh territory is a theme this week. As the Aries new Moon draws ever closer, consider what you truly value and how you might create space for it in your ever-evolving life. Creativity is essential to the Libra soul and psyche. Are you creating enough love and beauty in your life to feel fulfilled? Cultivate peace, nurture your heart.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) As the ongoing transit of Saturn through Scorpio – now retrograde – continues, take a break from the coulds, woulds and shoulds. Feel your heart, follow your intuition. This is an important period of breakdown and restructure, when you are being asked to prune the bush and make life more vital and alive. It’s a process and patience is a virtue. Relax.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Excitement and desire fuel amorous fires as Aries spring ignites passion and romance. You may find yourself impulsively attracted to new ideas and people now, enjoy the heat but don’t forget to put coolant in your engines. Balance is essential to happiness, success and well-being. Honor commitments and responsibilities. There’s always more where that came from.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) With the first new lunar cycle of spring looming on the celestial horizon, honor spirit and start fresh. Experience the miracle of rebirth in the flora and fauna of Mother Earth. Whether it is planting a garden or traveling the world, keep your hands busy and open your eyes to the abundant beauty and bounty surrounding you. You are a miracle, too. Honor thyself.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Busy and bustling, springtime forever delivers plenty of work and wonder to your door. Get out, discuss ideas, do business and simply get the job done. Explore your neighborhood and discover the people, places and things that make you happy, inspire creativity and excite movement. Communication is a golden tool now. Be impeccable with your word.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) You may find yourself highly motivated this week as desirous Mars and creative Venus conjoin in your solar 2nd house of personal resource and responsibility. Art, beauty and passion come together in a juicy mix of possibility. Perhaps it’s a floral garden or a personal masterpiece, give yourself permission to do exactly what you want to do. Create!

Uranus square Pluto: Shock & Awe, Fire & Awakening
Last week I wrote about Wonder Woman as the quintessential archetype of our rapidly changing Aquarian Age. A few years back, I found her on the cover of a vintage comic book while searching the Internet for an image reflective of our explosive, cataclysmic times. A woman who fights for peace, love, equality, justice and civil rights in a world of chaotic, colliding forces. It was just right.
And I continue to use the image to illustrate the characteristic energy of Uranus – the Great Awakener - modern planetary ruler of Aquarius and all things radical, revolutionary and so new and different that they cause sweeping, dramatic change.
But, last week I also needed an image for Pluto - the planet squaring rebel Uranus – and so I decided to go online and see if I could find other comic book images that might constellate the metamorphic cosmic battle between these two powerful, antithetical, outer transpersonal planets. And, voila! Pages and pages of super-hero and heroine glory, battling the Forces of Evil, which is the absolute, 100% definition of Pluto.
Pluto rules the Underworld, aka Hell and/or the Devil in some circles, and it represents those pieces and places of the puzzle that pull us down into the depths of darkness and despair. The places and spaces of compulsion and obsession, addiction, denial, dependence and uncontrollable desire. It is pure, unbridled, super-magnetic, charismatic power. In the fiery shadow of Pluto, we are powerless. The function of Pluto by transit is to bring darkness to light, expose what is hidden or toxic and ultimately destroy it. It is a process of death and rebirth. Buried emotions, secrets, lies and wounds are purged and cleansed, we are reborn. Out of the ashes, the phoenix rises.
When Pluto comes around to aspect other planets by conjunction, square or opposition, we are sure to experience deep, cathartic change. Because Pluto moves so slowly – it takes approximately 250 years to complete one revolution around the Sun – Pluto transits last for several years. And when they finally come to and end, we are physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually transformed.
Right now we are in the middle of a powerful and slow-moving Uranus square Pluto transit. Individually and collectively – everyone and everything on this planet Earth is feeling the resounding effects of shocking, awakening change. Pluto unearths the disturbing facts, strips the hierarchy bare and burns the poision - church and state, economic and social systems, governments, politics, religion – as well as our own personal and social lives. Uranus shocks and awakens, upsets and explodes. It’s the lightening bolt or dynamite and Pluto is molten lava, seething deep within, the hidden fire of the magnetic core. Volcanic eruptions? Black Holes? Electromagnetic attraction? Exploding darkness? The awakening Light of Truth battles the Forces of Evil. As stated by Franklin D Roosevelt during the last Uranus square Pluto aspect in 1933:”The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”.
Here are the dates when the Uranus square Pluto aspect has been and will be exact: June 26 2012 , September 19 2012 , November 1 2013, November 2013 Geocentric, April 21 2014, December 15 2014, March 17 2015.[Remember that the energies of the exact aspect are felt strongly before, during and after...]
Uranus keeps shocking us out of the doom and gloom, awakening us to new scandals, information, ideas and concepts. It is awakening our souls, our selves, our worlds in to a radical new reality, galaxy and Universe. To be continued…
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The Sun, Venus and Uranus join force in Aries the day following the full Moon, slamming the door on old, dysfunctional behaviors in romance and finance. You have moved into a brave new world of self-awakening and no longer find the habitual patterns of the past rewarding or appealing. Congratulations! You know exactly how to restructure your life, carry on!
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) With all planets but structure-building Saturn moving forward, you may find yourself supported in positive, pro-active efforts regarding your most significant, existing relationships. Readdress old issues with partners via honest, open communication. Just make sure compassion has an honored seat at the bargaining table. Otherwise, it just won’t work.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) With jovial Jupiter in Gemini this year, be aware and embrace the magic of cosmic coincidence and celestial synchronicity. What may appear to be random acts or unusual events – and notice how frequently they occur – are actually mystical alignments of supernatural forces that serve as gateways to new dimensions and realities. Eyes wide open, follow the light.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Challenge and support dance together this week as cosmic alignments encourage facing fear and dealing with conflict, no matter what the reason not to. You will find that truth and self-authenticity are powerful allies in your quest. Faith in basic goodness is like a magic wand; see the good in others, focus on positive solutions and trust that all is as it should be.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) The warrior spirit of Aries aligns harmoniously and supports the fiery heart of the Lion. Uplifted and encouraged by rebirthing spring, you may find yourself raring to go or chomping at the bit. Whoa, Nelly. Take a deep breath and cool your jets. Nothing like a bucking bronco kicking at the gate. Get out and go, but do it wisely. You are free to be. Enjoy the journey.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Planetary activity in your solar 7th house of longterm relationships and commitments may have you focusing on others, working with partners and spending time doing what someone else tells you to do. Rather than frustrate or stagnate, accept the opportunity to improve and enhance your life via people with whom you are engaged. See the value and accept it as good.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Spring begins the second half of your annual solar cycle. This translates as a metaphorical social debut, a time when you start feeling more interactive and willing to get out and about. Following the long hibernation of winter, cozy and cocooned, sunshine pulls fresh life from earth. You also are recharged. With warm spirit and happy heart, go forth.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Matters of the heart, experiences in love and issues of personal creativity provide plenty of food for thought as mental Mercury, numinous Neptune and therapeutic Chiron dance in your solar 5th house of romance and creative self-expression. You may find art, romance and entertainment unusually inspirational now. Indulge yourself in beauty. Have fun.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Fun and excitement roar as spring ignites inner passions. As days grow longer and sunrays become more direct, you may find it difficult to sit still. So don’t. Go ahead and follow your heart to the land of creative dreams and inspirations, just don’t accidentally jump off a cliff. Keep at least one foot firmly grounded here on earth. Remember, you are human.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Something exciting, romantic or life-changing may suddenly erupt or be brought to light this week as a powerful planetary conjunction in Aries follows quickly on the heels of the Mar. 27th Aries/Libra full Moon. Cardinal energy guarantees plenty of action, so hold on to your hat. Do your best to face all challenges and situations with calm compassion. Good luck!
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Restless Aquarian spirits find great pleasure in getting things done now. Spring is a new beginning and you may find such deep satisfaction in positive, pro-active action that you can hardly sit down. It’s exciting! New life, new growth, fresh frontiers and challenges excite you. Nothing like getting the job done! Change is an ally. Onward cosmic traveler! Go forth.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Love and laughter are welcome companions as you see the bigger picture from the high mountain of spirit. Higher-self living and being carries you to spaces and places that many others will never experience. It can be lonely at the top, but the good news is that you enjoy the view. Personal responsibility plays a major role in your week. Do what you want to do. Be selfish.

The Warrior Goddess Impels Us to Go Forth
As the Sun moves in to cardinal Aries and the rebirthing season of spring begins, we feel the emerging power of new life. Matted brown grasses give way to sprigs of green, melting snows disappear into earthy mud and warm winds shake trees and rattle rooftops with messages of seasonal change. We, like the tierra beneath our feet, are being reborn.
Here on Earth, we live and breathe, watch the Sun rise and set. We follow our instincts, whether we consciously realize it or not. We are creatures of habit, dependent upon food and water, sunlight and oxygen, exercise and movement, sleep and rest. Our modern world, with all its technological advantages and advances, often takes precedence over the natural, ecological, biological world upon which we depend.
Survival is a theme this time of year. The zodiac month of Aires is primal, primitive power; the power of fight or flight, win or lose, do or die. Ruled by the red-planet Mars, ancient God of War, Aries calls us to action and encourages us to go forth.
There are many paths to spirit, many battles to fight and many warriors upon the path. And this year, the Aries sun-time arrives with cases of dynamite, plenty of ammo and more than a few brothers-and-sisters-in-arms. Not to mention the guns and weapons strapped across chests or hidden in strategic places, out of sight. Wild Uranus - now transiting Aries - carries a big medicine bag of surprises and awakenings, upsets and upheavals. It is a function of positive change, but the original trappings of this revolutionary methodology is frequently sudden, dramatic and disruptive. We often react with anger, angst and anxiety. Stability goes out the window, we must get comfortable with uncertainty and prepare to fight for right. And I can’t help but think of the fighting-for-right, mythical, made-up comic book princess, the Amazon goddess of goodness, Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman! The super-human warrior bodhisattva of our times – the wild, radically infused, egalitarian Aquarian Age. I cannot think of a more appropriate image or entity than this lion-maned, ripped-muscle, breast-enhanced female super-heroine. And it just so happens that she is a tried and true champion of justice, love, peace and sexual equality – themes and issues with which we, as humans on this planet Earth, continue to do battle.
Wonder Woman was born in December 1941 – she is an altruistic, crusading Sagittarius - created by William Moulton Marston, an American psychologist, feminist theorist, inventor and comic book writer. A graduate of Harvard University, Marston developed the systolic blood pressure test used to detect deception, a forerunner to the modern day polygraph test. Invoked as a supreme warrioress, gifted with superior combat and battle skills, Marston’s Wonder Woman possessed an arsenal of weapons, including a pair of indestructible bracelets, a tiara which served as a projectile, an invisible airplane and the Golden Lasso of Truth – which was used to extract confessions, compel obedience, force justice and impel freedom. Anyone caught in the Golden Lasso found it impossible to lie - it was the world’s first lie detector.
According to an [1992] article in The New York Times regarding the original inception of Wonder Woman, “One dark night as the clouds of war hovered over Europe, Mr. Marston consulted his wife and collaborator, Elizabeth, also a psychologist. He was inventing somebody like that new Superman fellow, only his character would promote a global psychic revolution by forsaking Biff! Bam! and Ka-Runch for The Power of Love. 'Well,' said Mrs. Marston, who was born liberated, “this super-hero had better be a woman'…"
As a member of the predominantly male superhero teams the Justice Society [1941] and the Justice League [1960], Wonder Woman has been and continues to be an authentic representative for women’s, gay and civil rights, social and individual equality and freedom, and perhaps my favorite, a champion of Truth.
At this particular point in human evolution, we are standing at a major spiritual crossroads. Astrologically, we are experiencing one of the most powerful and impactful planetary phases of all times. Transpersonal planets Uranus – revolution, liberation and awakening - and Pluto – death, destruction and darkness – are aligned in a longterm, ongoing square, one which has been in orb since the spring of 2012 and will continue until late spring 2015. When these two slow-moving planets aspect each other by conjunction, square or opposition – the last time was in the 60’s, the time before that was in the 30’s – collective and individual waves of forced change wash over people and places; institutions, governments, social and economic systems - everything - body, mind and spirit. All life and consciousness are transformed. But, hey! No need to get scared, panicked or distraught. We are in the thick of it all right now. Whatever you have been doing, and whatever you are doing at the present moment will provide you with plenty of clues to what it is all about. Pay attention to your feelings and intuition, gather physical, emotional and spiritual strength, and check out the myths and methods of Wonder Woman - or any other mythical, magical, saintly being that you find inspirational. Remember, confidence, courage and good faith are allies of the successful warrior bodhisattva. We need as many as we can get.
We are all here together, as equals, fighting for justice with the weapons of love and compassion, truth and light.
To be continued…more on Uranus, Pluto and Wonder Woman - next week.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) It is plenty of me, me, me and you, you, you as Venus enters Aries to join Mars, the Sun and Uranus. The life of the party, the belle of the ball, the main attraction is front and center – guess who? You! Temper all the attention with the calm, sweet, diplomatic signature of Libra, your opposite sign. Focus on peace and maintain balance.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Pisces and Aries energy has you looking both backward and forward as you - once again - see the eternal equation of action and consequence in motion and effect. We get to where we are by what we do, and we choose what to do. Whether or not it is a conscious decision, it is still a choice. Take some time to contemplate the cosmos, then make your choices.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Thinking about friendship and camaraderie, considering professional options and cultivating aspirations are themes this week. As the Moon grows full, open your heart. Discover the wisdom of self-authenticity and self-honesty. Your life is up to you. Big, dramatic changes continue regarding the people with whom you wish to associate. Choose wisely.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Continue to seek out wise teachers, avatars, gurus and guides in the spiritual quest of the higher self. You have everything you need right there inside you, just waiting to come out. Read, explore and discover the enlightened, liberated sages of the ages. There has never before been such easy access to the secrets of enlightenment. Follow the light.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) You may feel inspired and uplifted as several planets move into fellow fire-sign Aries and ignite your spiritual passion and intellectual desire to explore the world outside your door. Discovery is a theme now and you may find you simply cannot stay at home or inside. Get out, travel about and experience places you have never been. Life is good, enjoy it.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) A potentially dramatic week arrives as excitable Mars joins force with explosive Uranus in primal Aries and fires ignite. The world spins faster and things happen in a flash, so take your time and pay attention to what you are doing. Make a conscious effort to slow down and be totally present. Listen to your heart and be 100% honest with everyone and everything.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) The Moon grows in size and stature this week, shining illuminating light on who you are and what you are doing. Mars, Venus, the Sun and Uranus in Aries demand total, 100% self-authenticity in everything you do and say. Focus on what you are thinking and doing. Discover the connection between thoughts and emotions. And remember, happiness is a choice.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Scorpio shares Mars with Aries as a ruling planet. Therefore, this time of year is symbiotic in energy and scope to the primal core of your spiritual essence. Passion and desire are themes, beginnings and fresh starts are favored. The key here is in understanding and executing the correct use of will and power. Success comes via humility and grace. Cultivate both.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Crash, boom, bang! The Archer ignites the world with expansive ideas and plenty of enthusiasm, but are you ready and willing to commit to your own imagination? Enjoy the rush of spring, explore the world of options and accept the wisdom of uncertainty. It’s time to be creative, romantic and have fun. Cultivate balance and take your time. Slow down.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) It is time to do the inner work, look inside and clean house. Personal inventories, self-review and self-nurturing are favored as several planets pop and crackle in your solar 4th house of personal and domestic security. Family and family of origin issues are big, take a trip back home, check in with parents or spend time with children. Weed the garden, rake the yard.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) The snap, crackle, pop of good ideas and exciting plans emerge as several planets in Aries light mental fires and set off fireworks of a rather visionary scope and size. Enjoy the show, but recognize all that glimmers is not gold. Instead of being mesmerized or duped by the smoke and mirrors of grandiosity, let reality set in. One day at a time, it all becomes clear.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Planet Mercury - messenger of medicine and magic, actor and healer, multi-faceted and multi-talented, joker and jester – is still in Pisces, doing the work of many, encouraging you to explore, think, discover, experience and learn. Meanwhile, fiery Aries says, “It’s all up to you now. What do you want?” Identify true desire. It’s time to pursue your passion. Go forth.

The Bluebird Fire & Ice of Pisces Winter & Aries Spring
Springtime guarantees warmer days and nights, emerging greens and, for those of us here in southwest Colorado, the arrival of the azure-blue western mountain bluebirds. They arrive in flocks, sitting on fenceposts, dipping and diving, eating the first emerging bugs of spring. I hear their sweet, soft birdsong drifting through the crisp, cool air of our morning walks. An occasional flash of deep-blue color reminds me they are near, and I feel a mysterious joy of heart. I understand why the bluebird has been named "the bird of happiness."
I also love being on the front side of a warming trend. I know the long, hot days of summer glisten upon the road ahead. Turquoise twilight and twinkling starlight, embracing breezes, blossoming flowers and succulent fruits await my touch, smell and taste. How magnificently exciting, inspirational and enticing!
I can easily lose myself in the romantic musings of seasonal indulgence - memories of the past and visions of the future – winding their way around my heart and soul like a languid, lazy river, flowing slowly to the sea. But, wait! It’s now, and it is not even spring – yet. I am on that Pisces/Aries bridge, the cusp of winter/spring, still stuck in the amniotic waters of gestation [Pisces], jump-starting my spiritual fires [Aries] with sparks of desire [Aries] and the dreamy imagination [Pisces] of visionary possibilities [Pisces], preparing for rebirth [Aries]. And the bluebirds are here to be present as midwives…to coach, encourage and inspire me onward and outward, to new life, new experiences and new journeys of body, mind and spirit.
Spring Equinox takes place this year on March 20th @ 5:02 am MDT, when the Sun enters the cardinal fire sign of Aries and the natural celestial year begins. The hours of day and night, light and dark, are equal on this day. It is one of the year’s four days of directional demarcation used to determine the four cardinal points of East, South, West and North. The Sun rises and sets directly east and west on this day and is exactly halfway between its yearly southernmost and northernmost point of movement upon the eastern and western horizons. For all life in the Northern Hemisphere, this is a day of renewal and rejoicing. Winter has ended, the season of birth and growth has come to pass.
Celebrate, renew and rejoice. Plan your gardens, order your seeds, and if you’re germinating seeds and starting plants indoors, get out your sterilized organic potting soil mix and go! Good luck and may all our dreams of bounty and beauty come true. Happy Spring!
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The last week of winter! Uranus – the Great Awakener – has shocked and rocked your world, pushing you toward truth and self-authenticity. You have been forced to let go of self-destructive habits and behaviors. Congratulations! This influence continues for quite some time, keeping you honest and setting you free. Embrace the new and go with the electric flow.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Messenger Mercury goes direct this week, but realistic Saturn remains retrograde in Scorpio, your solar 7th house of commitment and marriage. This translates as a time for better, healthier communication in relationships, specifically regarding repetitive patterns and behaviors. Look at your part and accept responsibility for it. How can you change?
Gemini (May 21-June 21) You may feel the fog lift and the sky clear as ruler Mercury resumes forward motion this week. The retrograde period favored rethinking, reviewing and reassessing your life, relationships, situation and circumstances, with a big focus on professional position and direction. With fresh clarity and vision, plan the garden and order the seeds.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) With spring equinox glittering on the seasonal horizon, you may feel the rumbling of rebirth deep within your heart and soul. As the Mother Earth transforms beneath the melting snow, you also are awakening to new life. Embrace the metamorphic magic of this powerful time of year via action and attention. Whether it’s cleaning, discarding, planting or planning, do it!
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Cabin fever reigns supreme this time of year and chances are you are ready to get out and explore the world. Get out the maps and travel guides. Identify places and spaces that excite and inspire you. Look at finances and stay within budget. There are many, many trips to take and things to do that are affordable. It’s all about new frontiers and new life.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) The current lunar cycle began with Pisces and culminates in Aries/Libra. Therefore, this is a lunation period of adjustment, when great gains and epiphanies come to those willing to look at their lives from new and higher perspectives. Perhaps you’ve been stuck in the muck of self-pity or living like a victim. Remember, the quality of your life is up to you. Take action!
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Whoopee! The end of winter brings forth the birth of spring, and you are more than ready. As long-term relationships continue to change in very Uranian ways – freedom, truth and honesty are themes – you may feel a bit rocked and shocked. But, good news, the Libra ethic for inner peace and overall serenity rules. It’s simple: show up as you want others to be.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) The long-term influence of Saturn in your sign is ultimately one of great power and personal freedom, but you must first move through the sometimes difficult task of facing hard core reality – good, bad, beautiful and/or ugly. Loss may be a pervasive theme, but what you are losing is simply no longer appropriate for what you are or need. Be honest and strong.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) With Pisces on the wane and Aries on the astrological horizon, you may feel pressure lessening and a sense of inspiration emerging out of the melting snow and ice. Clarity and focus are allies as you make plans for action in the upcoming weeks. Practice being impeccable with your word by simply doing what you say you are going to do. Practice!
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) The end of winter marks a major shift of focus and priority. It is time to look within and embrace the strength of character, tenacity and focus you were born with. Happiness is an inside job. While you are a natural leader and champion of accomplishment, this is a fertile time for self-nurturing and self-recover. Take a personal inventory and work on that.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) You may feel as if you are reliving or reviving professional activities and themes of years past. The good news is that it’s good to do so. You have learned tons from experience and practice. Why not share your knowledge with the world and reap the rewards in the process. As one who knows how to focus and get ‘er done, focus and do it. Good luck!
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) As your birthday month draws to a close, you arrive at a poignant point of departure. Endings and closure are themes. Process, recovery and healing are others. Let go of trying to help and/or change others. Changing yourself is the only way to change your life. You know this in your heart. Be the change you want the world to be.
