Returning Light, Solstice and Santa Claus...It's Christmas!

Winter Solstice takes place this year at 10:30 pm MST on Dec. 21^st, when the Sun enters the cardinal earth sign Capricorn. Celebrations take place around the world on both Dec. 21^st and 22^nd- Hail the season of Returning Light!

It's a busy week for holiday celebrations that honor light and the season of returning light. Winter Solstice, Hanukkah and Christmas all take place when days are shortest and nights are longest. All of them include ceremonies of light and rituals of fire in their traditions. And let it be so; it's time to honor our universal symbol of spirit - the Sun - primal star of exponential fire; the electromagnetic Force of Light and Life that keeps us all together, moving in circles, revolving around a center, eternally evolving - from year to year, life to life, star to star and galaxy to galaxy.

Candles, fires and electric wizardry bestow a variety of choices when it comes to traditional holiday light rituals and displays. I, personally, am a big fan of colored lights rather than the uni-dimensional white ones - flickering candles, crackling fires and Christmas trees shimmering with tinsel. A solstice bonfire is always on the agenda as well - if possible complete with a Yuletide ceremony of twinkling bells and New Year's wishes.

And let's not forget about jolly old Saint Nick, benevolent Santa, Father Christmas he has to be a Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius! All those presents, elves, reindeer and a speedy international world tour on a flying sleigh in just one night? Wow! And all he wants for us is to be good? After all, He knows when youve been sleeping, he knows when youre awake. "He knows when youve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake! Oh, You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town!" Good God, lets be good!

May we embrace the joys of Christmas, carry love in our hearts and follow the shining Light of Spirit. Peace on Earth and Good Will to All! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Joyful, Peaceful Solstice. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Dreaming Awake South of the Border at Christmas

Here I am, once again, amidst cactus and palm trees, south of the border for Christmas. The sun rises above the sparkling Sea of Cortez each morning and drops behind the desert mountain horizon at dusk. Venus shimmers like a vixen in the west at twilight, seductive and enchanting, while Jupiter blazes across the starry night sky like a cosmic traveler on a mission from God. Red-orange Mars, the ancient deity of war, pops up just before midnight, throwing javelins of yellow light into the cosmos, followed an hour later by calm, controlled Saturn; celestial timekeeper, teacher and taskmaster. The dancing Seven Sisters of the Pleiades and mighty Orion the Hunter twinkle with delicate beauty and magnificent grandeur, as a silver-white eclipsing Moon sets in the tranquil silence of approaching dawn.

I feel humbled and blessed. I am far from home, friends and family, and I miss them more than ever. Perhaps its because I'm older now and age has gifted me with the knowledge that life is short. We must embrace the moment, seize the day, live each and every moment of our precious lives. We are here fleetingly, like meteors in the night, streaking from here to there, on a journey of love and light, with tests and trials along the way. I try to remember that I can only do the best I can, live one day at a time and focus on doing the next right thing. I cannot solve other peoples problems, tell them what to do or help them see things my way. I have given up the folly and hubris of enlightenment for myself and others - and recognize that awareness comes and goes. Awakening is an ongoing, eternal process, the evolution of consciousness, inspired by spirit.

I often find myself dreaming awake, balancing realities and traveling through time. I venture back to days gone by, Christmas past and memories of childhood. A young family struggling to make ends meet, saving babysitting money to buy presents and savoring the box of Russell Stover chocolates I received from my grandmother every year. I have to admit, I love the holidays; the colored lights, the sappy music and the idealistic, utopian message of peace on earth, good will to all. And gracias a la virgen, we have SiriusXM radio, a solar voltaic system to charge the batteries, a Christmas tree and lights strung around the patio palapa. The palm trees sway and the sea sparkles. Todo es muy tranquilo.

Happy, Happy Holidays! May we feel the love and see the beauty, live in peace and share the bounty. Peace, peace, peace on Earth, love and joy, good will to All.

The Sun will be @ 1810 Sagittarius, the Moon at 1810 Gemini, illuminating the tropical zodiacs polarity of lower and higher thinking and mentality. From the childlike innocence of beginners mind to the enlightened awareness of the guru, saint or avatar, we will travel the multi-faceted road of individual and collective consciousness. The Heart of Sagittarius: Giving, Grace and Gratitude

December is here and its the last month of 2011. The Sagittarius sun-time is upon us. Its time to pull out the stops and surrender to the spirit of giving. Living each and every moment of our precious lives, being in the moment, awakening to the ever-present now appreciating what we have, and what we dont have accepting everything exactly as it is, exactly as it should be gratitude in its grandeur, the quintessential Sagittarian ethic.

Good hope, good faith and good cheer resonate throughout the cosmos as the holiday season kicks in. We are awakened to our own essential goodness as we discover the grace of giving from the heart, helping those less fortunate and forgiving those who may have hurt or harmed us. Its a time to see the bigger picture, tap into our higher selves and travel above and beyond the roads of normal, conventional, 3D reality. And it takes a certain courage and confidence an actual leap of faith - to cross the precipice, to jump from fear and doubt to acceptance, love and kindness.

In this vibrant, always-changing, uncertain-future time on planet Earth we must remember that we are here together a collective whole dynamic, evolving, inter-related and interconnected - moving from light to darkness, over and over, again and again. Day by day, night by night, evolutionary birth, death and rebirth the process of energetic creation and re-creation. Happy Thanksgiving New Moon Solar Eclipse

Faith, belief systems, higher self, politics, morals and morality, preachers and priests, judicial law, philanthropy, world travel and foreign cultures, spiritual paths, the global village, the bigger picture, positive thinking, generosity of spirit, truth and higher knowledge, gurus, avatars, ascended masters and saints all of this comes under the rulership of Jupiter and Sagittarius. And here we are, in the first week of zodiac Sagittarius, on the eve of the final eclipse cycle of 2011, in the fertile cusp of the Aquarian Age and on the brink of the Mayan End Times. Is it real, unreal, natural, artificial, superficial or integral? Illusion, fantasy or reality? Humankind is forever evolving. Scientific, political, religious and philosophical thought fields clash, collide and coincide, explode and reinvent, redefine and restructure. Its a constant and eternal battle of wills and ideas, limits and no limits, confinements and escapes. Where we are matters less than how we are and what were doing. Are we living fully in the present, communing with the now in the chaotic fertile womb of creation - the vibrant primordial consciousness of spirit?

Thanksgiving is the quintessential Sagittarian holiday. Going over the top, generosity in excess; feasts of grandeur and hearts of gratitude, reaching out to those less fortunate, feeling the grace, blessing the space and place in which we live and breathe, love and nurture ourselves and those we care for. A "Black Moon" and Bodhisattva Spirit of a Sagittarius Solar Eclipse

The recurring monthly time of the "black Moon" has always been one of my favorites. It's when the night sky is darkest, the stars brightest and the universe most fertile for planting the metaphorical seeds of hope, desire and intention that fuel the inspirational fires of creation and manifestation. And this week, as the Sun moves from Scorpio into Sagittarius, we are blessed with just that. From Nov. 17^th to 24^th the Moon wanes, rising later and growing smaller each night, until it disappears entirely behind the Earth's shadow in the exact conjunction aspect of a solar eclipse @ 11:10 pm MST on Nov. 24^th.

For all of us, this is an especially powerful time to go inward, dive deep into the watery realm of emotion - the Scorpio underworld of feelings and desires - face our demons, identify our fears and give birth to the bodhisattva, the warrior spirit of Sagittarian faith, courage and inspiration.

The full Moon lunation of Nov. 10^th takes place on the eve of the numerically potent day of 11.11.11. I've been noticing for weeks the ads on television for mega-movies premiering on that day. The numbers on the TV screen seem to carry some sort of ominous portent, working on my subconscious in a rather mysterious way. As if I need to take notice and circle the date, do something special or just be awake and aware of what's going on, not only in my life, but also in the lives of people and life on planet Earth.

I'm also aware of a subtle energetic consciousness in the air. I feel a certain cosmic charge that emanates hope, anticipation and possibility. Its as if the collective heart and mind yearns for peace, love, compassion and kindness. Like a river, it flows through body and soul, touches spirit and unites us in a dreamy, idealistic world of equality, prosperity, freedom and justice. One where we rise to our most enlightened, highest selves, a fantasy land of spiritual generosity and basic goodness, where we live in acceptance, forgiveness, productivity and humility. Wow! I'm really out there! Obviously, this is powerful stuff!

But, all illusion and indulgence aside, I do feel something strong and deep. Eleven is a magic number - a Master Number in numerology - and one that stands for inspiration. Following 08.08.08, 09.09.09 and 10.10.10, 11.11.11 promises to be a day of great awakening and awareness, beauty and breakthrough, transformation and collective interconnectedness. It's a day to be truly inspired and one that will only be topped by 12.12.12 - la Dia de Guadalupe 2012. (The actual rectified anniversary of her apparition in 1531 takes place on Winter Solstice 2012, the prophesied end date for the Mayan Calendar.) As we journey toward the Full Moon fruition of the Scorpio lunar cycle on the eve of 11.11.11 - the actual fruition takes place @ 1:17 pm MST on Nov. 10^th - we find ourselves traveling through places and spaces we have never been. Uncharted territory, metaphorical lands of vibrant color and culture beckon discovery and encourage exploration. Physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual boundaries are challenged. Hauntings, Witches, Spirits and the Mystery of Life and Death

It's Halloween week and there is snow outside. I'm headed to Denver and looking forward to a spooky night at an old Victorian mansion in Capitol Hill on Pennsylvania Street, complete with a psychic and paranormal investigators. It will all take place in a turreted red cut-stone palace with a long history of ghosts and hauntings, one that caught my attention as a child and even showed up in my dreams. The evening will benefit Historic Denver, a fantastic organization that has helped save the Mansion from demolition many times over the years, so I'm more than happy to support them and also be given the chance to roam around inside and see what I can see.

Let's face it; Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Not only is it fun and funny, relatively uncorrupted and pure in spirit - no pun intended - but it's also a time of natural magnetism and electro-magnetic force, when we feel the powerful pull of seasonal change and metamorphosis. We are dropping into the darkest part of our year, the veil between the worlds of spirit and matter grows thin and we are instinctively drawn toward the possibilities of magic and the mysteries of life and death. For me, it's the time to imagine and explore, dress up like a witch, polish the wand, pull out my broom and go for a ride.

Also this week, take note of the emotionally intense and psychologically deep Scorpio lunar cycle. On October 26^th @ 1:56 pm MDT the Sun and Moon come together @ 03 03' in the conjunction aspect of a New Moon. Feel your feelings, face your demons and bring darkness into the light. October Snow and Bracing for Winter

I arose this morning in darkness, well before sunrise, and it was raining raining hard. Last nights news sent out the seasons first winter storm advisory for the San Juans with forecasts for snow and lows in the upper 20s yikes! Mother Nature painting the landscape white, summer is definitely over.

Now the day is breaking and its grey outside. The grass in the yard is emerald green, the windows streaked with rain. Fire crackles in the woodstove and its warm and cozy inside. Winds blow and bend the tall blonde grass in the pasture where the horses are out of sight, theyve taken cover in the pinon-juniper forest way down yonder. Now, thats a saying Ive heard used on and off in Colorado since I was a kid. Its a cowboy-country kind of slang that always makes me smile.

Weather changing, just like life. When it rains and storms, it seems like it will always be so. The human animal reacts to atmospheric conditions just like that, when its sunny and bright, its hard to imagine sleet and snow. The Sun is always there, and clouds will come and go. Like emotions and feelings, its all temporary just like life. Cest la vie, here we are, moving into the second week in October and bracing for winter.

For years Ive been fascinated by Native American teachings. Perhaps its the Colorado territory I grew up in, so rich in stories of cowboys and Indians, playing in creek beds where red men roamed, finding arrowheads and riding horses across mesa tops, dreaming of buffalo and watching the sun set behind the peak-studded horizons of my youth. Or maybe its in my blood, where a genetic past-life memory lingers. According to my Grandfather, his forefathers came over on the Mayflower. And one of my Grandmothers ancestors was the first recorded fatality in the Revolutionary War. Plenty of time to interbreed. Whatever the case, fantasy or reality, I hear the voice and feel the heart of the people who lived and loved these American lands long before the white man came to exploit it.

Today we walk a path of mystery. We have established a country and government far from the days of tipis and tribal councils. Scientists define physics while politicians, lawyers and judges rule social, legal and judicial realms. Religions are in turmoil and spirituality is up for grabs. And thank God. For this I am grateful. I can pray to the Great Spirit, bless and touch the Mother Earth. I can walk the good red road and look forward to the blue road of spirit. I can read the teachings of the Hopi, Seneca, Maya, Aztec, Toltec, Yaqui, Navajo, Apache, Cheyenne and Lakota as passed down from their Elders and embrace the power and wisdom of their words.

As we embark upon the first phase autumn, we are surrounded with brilliant color and light. The magnificent beauty of the peace-loving Libra sun-time shimmers with gold and dances in shades of peach and crimson, painted upon a canvas of verdant greens. How lucky we are to live and breathe this beauty and bounty. Can we rise above our human differences, resentments and competitions to unite in equality and peace as Warriors of the Rainbow? Autumn Equinox and the Libra New Moon of Peace and Grace

The 2011 Autumnal Equinox takes place this week on September 23^rd @ 3:04 am MDT and initiates the season of brilliant yellow, flaming orange, burning crimson, passionate peach and imperial purple. As the Sun exactly aligns with the Earths equator, we experience a day of balance and equilibrium, a day in which the hours of light and dark are equal. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, we are passing into the time of increasing darkness, as opposed to the Southern Hemisphere, where this day heralds the birth of spring and the season of increasing light.

The zodiac month of Libra begins at Autumn Equinox and is characterized astrologically by the energies of peace, harmony, beauty, equality and balance. The astrological symbol, or glyph, for Libra is the linear depiction of the western horizon and the setting sun an omen of impending twilight and approaching darkness. As the 7^th sign of the Tropical Zodiac, it marks the halfway point in our Earths annual cycle around the Sun and a time of natural transition and metamorphosis.
