Christmas and Solstice Celebrations of Light
Winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the shortest day of the year, takes place in 2013 on December 21st. The Sun is symbolically reborn on this day; it has reached its southernmost point on the Earth’s horizon and begins its long journey back north, passing through spring equinox and continuing on to its northernmost point of summer solstice in June. Days will be getting longer, and darkness is on the wane.
Many ancient – and not so ancient - cultures have conducted celebrations of light and performed rituals of renewal on winter solstice for millennia. And today the tradition lives on. In America, we string Christmas lights on trees and buildings, bushes, cactus, statues, trucks and cars. Anything is game. It’s a lovely perennial holiday show honoring the Spirit of Light.
Last week I made my own small journey north to Denver, city of my birth, to visit friends and family. Amidst emotions and motion, I met up with my long-cherished-girlfriend-from-high school, Molly – who now lives in New Orleans and is an English professor at Tulane – for dinner and cantos at the vesperas ceremony on the evening prior to the El Dia de Guadalupe feast day.
A few days later I found myself in Larimer Square, having dinner at Ted’s Montana Grill with family and friends. How the city has changed since my childhood and teens, when Larimer Street was home to winos and bums, full of abandoned buildings, flophouses and seedy hotels. But just like the Sun at winter solstice, downtown Denver has been reborn. Fancy shops and gourmet restaurants abound. Coors Field and LoDo are super cool and hip. Hot chics with great legs in short skirts, boots and stockings were out in full force, well-dressed young men smiling and laughing, shoppers and boppers. No bums or winos, no abandoned buildings in sight.
But, there was one Christmas tradition in downtown Denver that has remained the same. The magnificent, beautiful Civic Center Building facing the Colorado State Capitol Building is still decorated in a bounty of light. It’s distinctive shape and façade, colonnades, spiring clock tower and arcing wings were drenched in rainbows of color. Greens, blues, reds and yellows. It looked like a lucious, big Christmas cake of shimmering light. Sweet!
Merry Christmas, Happy Solstice and blessings of Joy and Peace on Earth. May you walk in beauty and follow the light...
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Winter Solstice translates as a point of reckoning for the Ram. What you have done, how you have behaved and the self you present to the world come together in a equation of truth and consequence. And with several planets in reality-based Capricorn, you must face the facts and accept the results. Cause and effect equal karma.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Philanthropic giving and right action living embrace the Bull with inspiration and gusto as celestial light illuminates the best within. Giving to those in need, focusing on positive aspects - rather than what annoys you – makes you happy, healthy and wise. These are times of great challenge for the world and you can make it better. Simply do your part.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) The best strategy these days is to take care of your own back yard and let others take care of theirs. Self-responsibility is key to happiness now, cultivate healthy boundaries, especially when it comes to spending. It’s easy to get out of control during the holidays, but, ultimately it’s an equation of action and consequence. Keep your head, count your blessings.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) The celestial grand cardinal cross of planets in orb these days is especially poignant for Moonchildren. Home, family, important others and personal self are aligned in a square dance of time, attention and priority. Do your best and focus on balance. This holiday week is demanding. Find your center, breathe deep, cultivate gratitude and choose joy.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) The holidays offer the Lion multiple opportunities to give from the heart, be of service to others and help those who need help. Motivation to get out and about, see the lights and enjoy the Christmas spirit runs strong. Guardian angels surround you now, look for them in everyone you meet. Open to the possibilities of magic, divine guidance and loving kindness.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) The 2012 Christmas week may feel more grounded and practical than those in the recent past. Could it be because you are more grounded and practical now than you have been in years? Good things come to those who associate with people who value right action, clean living and self care. Responsibility and practice are key to happiness. Embrace them both.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Busy-ness is everywhere. Wherever you go, there you are. The winds of change blow strong this week as solstice fires flicker with flames of illumination and understanding. Acceptance and right action are keys for health, happiness and well being. Balance emotions with facts and focus on goodness and gratitude. Find inner peace amidst the madness and embrace grace.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Present moment living and heartfelt giving are allies in your battle of integrity, honesty and right action. Planetary power in your solar 3rd house of perception and communication has you observing what you see, hear and say. Practice impeccability with your word and don’t make assumptions. Release resentments and let go of fear. Ask the angels.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) As the Sagittarius birthday month ends on Winter Solstice, the Archer moves into a phase of personal responsibility and realistic self-assessment. What are you doing to take care of you? Are you cultivating healthy boundaries, balancing equations and drawing the line when it comes to indulgence? Enjoy the week as you prepare to prune the bush.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) An action-packed week presents itself with plenty of things to do, parties to attend and people to embrace. Do your best to maintain balance as you go out to see, meet and greet the world. You are somewhat the belle of the ball now, smile and let your light shine. Dress up, decorate and create beauty as you go. Accomplishment motivates, just don’t burn out! Enjoy!
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) A practical, realistic pack of planets in Capricorn is spending the Christmas week in your solar 12th house of compassion, forgiveness and spirit. You may feel more like giving than receiving, so go ahead and share the wealth. And you know that what goes around, comes around, so it’s all good. Help others, be of service and enjoy the joy.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) The Aquarian spirit of friendship, fellowship and camaraderie emerges this week as you find great joy in getting together with people you enjoy. Romantic feelings inspire artistic creativity, share your heart with those you love. Beauty is in a all around you, embrace its bounty as you cultivate self-authenticity, honesty and integrity. Merry Christmas!

El Dia de Guadalupe: Mother of America & Queen of Mexico
Believing in religion is a lot like believing in fairy tales. Mystical, magical stories of heroes and heroines, impossible tasks and amazing miracles. Walking on water and virgin births, fairy godmothers, benevolent kings and evil queens. We truly want to believe, and many do. Something in our hearts accepts the out-of-this world accounts of apparitions and ascensions, flying dragons and magic carpets. Miraculous stories inspire hope, fuel the imagination and shine rays of light upon our mysterious, sometimes darkened, path in life.
December 12th is the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe – el dia de la Nuestra Senora Maria de Guadalupe – the day of celebration for the Mexican version of the Virgin Mary; Queen of Mexico, Mother of the Americas, la Virgen de Nosotros. And who is Our Lady of Guadalupe?
La Virgen de Guadalupe is a hybrid Madonna born in the Heart of the One World – Mexico, Tenochtitlan – out of a dramatic clash of cultures, power and beliefs. Indigenous peoples, Toltec shamans and Aztec priests, Spanish conquistadors and Catholic priests met and merged in a land of flower and song, but it was also a land of human sacrifice with abundant treasures of gold and jade - a civilization both highly evolved and drastically primitive. Many were killed. Rivers of blood ran in the streets. In the name of God and Jesus Cristo, the Spanish prevailed. Twelve years following the Conquest, in 1531, tho holy Santa Maria Guadalupe appeared to a recently converted native Aztec Indian name Juan Diego on a hill in a place called Tepeyac, outside of Mexico City. She identified herself as “the ever Virgin Mary” and told him to go the Catholic Bishop Zumarraga and tell him to build a temple in her honor there at the site where she appeared. It would be there that she would give the people assistance, guidance, protection and love.
Of course, the Bishop did not believe that Juan Diego saw, and talked to, the Virgin Mary and asks him for proof. The story goes on, and eventually la Virgen fills Juan Diego’s tilma – which is a Mexican poncho – with roses as proof. When Juan takes the evidence to the Bishop, and opens the cape to show him the roses, the flowers fall out and the image of Guadalupe is miraculously painted upon his tilma. And that "original" tilma hangs in La Basilica de Santa Maria de Guadalupe in Tepeyac, Mexico today.
Guadalupe is my patrona, my patron saint and I love her. Her names and appellations are many, but her image is always the same. Surrounded by a body halo of golden, flaming light and wrapped in a blue and turquoise shroud of shimmering stars, she is beautiful, magnificent and evocative. She shape-shifts as queen, sister, mother, aunt, friend and even girlfriend. She is sweet, compassionate, kind and gentle, but she also shows up in times of trouble, oppression and inequity as a warrior goddess and champion of justice. She is a strong woman willing to fight for freedom and liberty, the archetypal mother who fiercely stands up for the civil and human rights of her children. She is also a moderm symbol of the Earth - the Mother Earth - the Mother of us all.
Happy dia de Guadalupe. May we embrace her courage, compassion and love, and may we hear her message of Peace on Earth. May we know she is here, always present, like the Mother Earth, she will not throw us off or cast us aside. Blessings and peace…a la diosa.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The Sagittarius lunar cycle comes to fruition just past midnight on Dec. 17th and revolutionary Uranus ends a 5-month retrograde in Aries hours later. This translates as a powerful point of awakening and self-reckoning. The many disruptive, uncomfortable situations you have experienced in the last year have been self-fueled. Change had come.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Beyond-your-control people, places and events have been running rampant in your life for several months, and possibly years. While you have the tenacity and patience to weather the storm, keep your personal center and maintain your values, it can get old. The good news is you’ve learned to let go, focus on your part and accept others. You’ve changed!
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Fasten your spiritual seatbelt, it’s time for a quantum leap. The five months of Uranus retrograde in self-fueled Aries has taken you back through a plethora of hopes and dreams, a life review of sorts. You may have felt tied to a cause – not necessarily your own – and unable to pursue your personal path. Herald the change. Gather strength and go forth.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Ups and downs, stops and starts are par for the course these days, but this week, you see the meaning behind the madness. Shifting tides and planetary alignments encourage positive, pro-active change. Uranus goes direct and the Moon grows full. Professional direction gets back on track, as you rework and restructure what you want and desire. Enjoy the ride.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Mars in early Libra jumpstarts the holiday week as lunar light illuminates a path of higher-self awakening and philanthropic giving. Romance glistens as children listen to sleigh bells ringing in the snow. Tailwinds of transformation increase as Uranus goes direct and amplifies themes of spiritual enlightenment via international travel. Explore and discover.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) A grand cardinal cross kicks in the week with a dictum to resolve four important areas of concern: self-identity, relationships, home life and work. The good news is that you are now ready and willing to address issues and resolve them via positive solutions and right action. Honesty is your ally, balance and attention your tools. Focus on the good and go forth.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Big news comes in the shape of Mars – planet of personal will, courage and desire – moving into Libra – sign of relationships, balance and cooperation. The dazzle sparkles in a cardinal grand cross that catalyzes the breakdown of longstanding patterns and their reconfiguration at a higher level. You are personally involved, show up and create!
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Good luck comes to all who accept life on life’s terms, take it one day at a time and practice the arts of patience, self-discipline and gratitude. Saturn’s cycle through your sign marks one of life’s most important period of potential accomplishment and personal reckoning. You see clearly what needs doing. Lucky you, in charge of your life. Do your best
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Candles are lit and cakes are cut as the Sagittarius zodiac month marks another revolution around the Sun. Take a deep breath and look around you. Master and commander of your life, what do you see? As the full Moon aligns with the Galactic Center, release old beliefs and remember your cosmic origins. Bathe in electromagnetic force, live and let go.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) As one of the signs most affected by the planetary energetics of the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square, this week’s forward station of Uranus is fabulous news. You may experience a change of heart or shift of consciousness as longstanding domestic and family issues suddenly find resolution. Breaking dawn shines light upon internal changes. Embrace the dawn.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) The Sag/Gemini new Moon peaks close to the zodiacal degree of the Milky Way’s Galactic Center, aligning the world with super-charged electromagnetic force. Themes of 2012 Mayan awakening resonate throughout the cosmos. Absorb and transmit the etheric, esoteric rays, ultra-violet and infrared light as you take the high road and follow the stars.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) Numinous Neptune and chiropractic Chiron remain close in Pisces, emanating rays of spiritual healing and enlightenment in areas and issues of emotional pain, ego dissolution, loss and abandonment. Inspiration, help and assistance comes via meditation. Prayer and service. Look for guardian angels, find solace in holy places and spaces. Surrender and let g

A Man of Freedom and Peace, the Essence of Sagittarius
I see the dramatically delicate crescent new Moon shining in deep turquoise twilight, hanging slightly above brilliant Venus, low in the southwestern sky. The fields are covered in snow, crystalline white, reflecting the ebbing evening glow of the setting sun. The temperature dropped below zero last night, this morning I awoke to a thermometer reading of -11ºF. I am grateful to have a Lange woodstove and a huge stack of oak, cedar, pinon and aspen in the shed. I am comfortable and blessed; I live a good, simple life, and I am thankful for it. With patience and acceptance, I can experience fleeting moments of grace. This wild west end of Colorado is good to me, it embraces my soul and sets me free.
Today I heard the news of Nelson Mandela’s death. He was 95 and died in his sleep. Bless this man of peace. This man who stood for freedom, human rights and peace. He had the strength to endure 27 long years of prison, breaking rocks in the hot South African sun. He kept his faith, his self-respect, his spirit and his heart. He is a true inspiration for the world. A true spiritual warrior, a quintessinal example of the Sagittarian essence.
As we move through the first full week of the holiday season, may we follow our hearts – our true hearts – hearts of goodness and love, compassion and gratitude. The Sagittarian ethic is generosity of spirit – giving without expectation, giving from the heart – with joy, grace and golden humility. Giving to those we love, those we know and those we don’t know. Helping those who are less fortunate, compromised, abused and oppressed. Those who need it, and those who think they don't. In other words, the world.
God bless and may the angels show us the way…
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Messenger Mercury enters Sagittarius and motivator Mars moves into Libra this week, uplifting attitudes and initiating action in your most important relationships. Others may contact, visit or show up unexpectedly at your door. Generosity and goodness are themes. Be as calm and positive as possible. Tap into the joy, embrace gratitude, be happy.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Communication with a trusted ally or friend, therapist or healer of sorts is favored now and for the next two weeks. Somehow, you see the forest for the trees and can rise above the petty but powerful chains of ego and release yourself from the bondage of self-fueled internal dialogs. Wisdom and inspiration come in strange and simple ways. Keep an open mind.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Expect to be contacted and in contact with others as communicative Mercury joins the Sun in your solar 7th house of relationships. Travel may be a big part of the equation as well. Explore new options and discuss ideas with partners. Love and money opportunities emerge as passionate Mars excites sweet romance and creative finance. Follow your heart.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) You may feel a bit cranky or under the weather as things just seem a bit off. But, it’s all good; thanks to giant planet Jupiter retrograde in Cancer. The trick is in taking a backward look at yourself and your life, focusing on what made you happy, what worked out well and what is outrageously fabulous about being you. Cultivate the best within, and simply do the next right thing.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Hustle and bustle, getting out and about, visiting with neighbors and friends…the list goes on and on. No use in trying to slow down, but just be sure to pace yourself. Venus in Capricorn encourages service and sacrifice when it comes self-indulgence. Shop for others before splurging on yourself; giving is truly receiving. No worries, guardian angels abound.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Home life is the good life now, so enjoy it. Find ways to cozy up and get comfy with a book, a crackling fire or someone who nurtures you, body and soul. Romance and creativity go hand in hand; you may discover great joy in making cookies, crafting presents or simply decorating for the holidays. Indulge yourself in pure, sweet love. Feel the joy of peace.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Motivator Mars moves into Libra on Dec. 7th and will remain there until late July 2014. This heralds a super-long period of heightened activity and desire regarding personal interests and agendas. For now, consider what you really want [to do] in life, rather than what others want [you to do]. Focus on self-care and self-nurturing as you shop, create and explore.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Welcome to a new phase of life and love. With Master Teacher Saturn comfortably settled in your sign, there is little doubt you have learned the power of responsibility, self-discipline and hard work. Focus is something that comes naturally to you; the magic is in using it in positive, productive ways, ways that bring joy to you and others. Keep it good.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Fluid, flexible, multi-faceted Mercury moves into Sagittarius this week and turns up the volume on internal dialogues, verbal exchanges and written expressions. It’s time to be authentically you, honest and true to heart. Just make sure you are conscious and aware of what you say. Your ultimate spiritual mission in life is being impeccable with your word. Do your best.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Voluptuous Venus in Capricorn shimmers magical light upon you, body and soul, so why not enjoy it? Take a good look around and see the magic and beauty, the sweet heart beneath the hard exterior and the love inside the laughter. Mars in Libra introduces a prolonged period of motivation regarding achievement. Relax in the hustle, smile and take good care of you.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Friends and friendship play an active, interesting role in the holidays this year, so keep those lines of communication open and pick up the phone. Traveling for special interest or support of others is also favored, you have a lot to give and share. Guardian spirits and angelic forces surround you now; women are especially loving and kind. Be sweet and demonstrate compassion.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) A busy holiday week awaits you as Mercury joins the Sun in your solar 10th house of accomplishment and getting things done. You may be in charge of an important event, hosting parties or orchestrating metaphorical concerts. Just make sure you are taking care of your own lists and priorities. Juggling balls for others can make you crazy. Slow down.

The Angel of Death and the Grace of Gratitude
Here we are, Thanksgiving. A time to take pause, count our blessings and share our bounty. Food, friends and family; roast turkeys and pumpkin pies. Whether we stay home or travel, are with loved ones or in a totally non-traditional location – solo or with strangers - eating non-traditional cuisine, we, as Americans, can’t help but take note of this very traditional American holiday and its message of thanks-giving.
This year, I find myself feeling somewhat mystified, emotional, humbled and, yes, grateful. Life on Earth is amazing and beautiful, and yet we as humans continue to suffer, either by our own actions and behaviors or those of others. And then there are the natural disasters and wars, political ridiculousness and power-hungry, greed-fueled agendas that seem to control the world economies and destroy our environment. But I am still grateful for the goodness.
I lost some very good friends to the Angel of Death during our last, most recent eclipse cycle. And - ironically, karmically or synchronistically – it was a repetition of the 19-year saros eclipse cycle of 1994 in Scorpio/Taurus, when I lost my 18-year old sweet niece, Lise, in a car crash on a dark, snowy, slushy night outside of Boulder. Tragic and hard to take.
Saturn is on my Venus right now, and Jupiter is on my Moon. The translation in a nutshell is “feeling the pain of loss in love” and an “overwhelming expansion of heartfelt emotion” - so I am of course experiencing both. But I have also talked to others recently who are having an unusually difficult time with sorrow and acceptance regarding death and issues of mortality. For all of us, Saturn’s transit through Scorpio marks a time when we must deal with the reality of death and dying, delve deeply into the numinous waters of soul and psyche, face our fears and battle our demons. And that takes courage.
The good news is that generous, benevolent, giant Jupiter is moving through emotional Cancer, opening our hearts to feeling our feelings and healing our wounds. Scorpio and Cancer are both water signs, so one supports and encourages the other. Jupiter awards us with hope, faith, optimism and, yes, courage. We somehow find the strength to trust our goodness, follow our hearts and travel the high road of spirit. And Jupiter loves expressions of gratitude. It’s where we find grace.
Happy Thanksgiving and may the great goodness of Jupiter and the time-honored wisdom of Saturn find gracious space at your holiday table. Blessings, joy and peace.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Thanksgiving Day dawns with a shocking Uranus opposition to the peace-loving Libra Moon, awakening you to the rather unusual conditions in which you find yourself. Whether it’s happening on the physical, emotional or spiritual plane, embrace the shake and break the patterns than need to be broken. And remember gratitude, experience grace.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) With mental Mercury moving through the last degrees of Scorpio - your solar 7th house of longterm relationships – you may find yourself discussing or wrapping up issues of finance and/or intimacy with siblings, partners and friends. Thanksgiving focuses on gratitude, and it’s a fabulous reminder for the holidays. Give and you shall receive.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Thanksgiving begins the holiday season, jumpstarting the hustle-bustle busy-ness and revelry of eating, drinking, shopping, buying, giving and receiving. And, this year, the Twins feel it with more impact than usual. The Dec. 2nd Sag New Moon amplifies themes of self and others, asking you to give, give, give. Just don’t forget to take care of yourself in the process.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Communicating love and giving from the heart are themes for the first week of the holiday season. A fresh New Moon in your solar 6th house of giving reminds you to be gracious, compassionate and humble. You may find great satisfaction and spiritual depth via work and service, especially when you are helping those in need. Volunteer; seek and you shall find.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Staying busy is not a problem this week, as you are more than committed and there are plenty of projects you’d like to get done before Christmas. Christmas? Wait, it’s Thanksgiving. Slow your headspace pace and relax with the graciousness of giving. In time, everything comes and goes. Personal creativity is at a peak. Get going and simply do your best. It’s all good!
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Action-loving, motivated Mars moves through the last degrees of Virgo, polishing projects and putting finishing touches on things you’ve been working on for weeks. Make lists and fulfill commitments as you march through a week of good pleasure and fun. Travel has been on the agenda for many, visiting siblings, see the sights. Love is all around you. Enjoy!
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Home is where the heart is. Voluptuous Venus in Capricorn and a Sagittarius New Moon shine light upon the sweet, simple pleasures you experience at home – wherever you are - with a loving, giving and receiving heart. Family plays a big part in your week and you may find yourself challenged professionally. Breathe deep, all is as it should be.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Saturn in Scorpio and Venus in Capricorn sandwich an inspired Sagittarius New Moon, flavoring the otherwise excitable lunation with emotional sobriety and down-to-earth, practicality regarding romance and finance. Take your time, do the math and balance the equations. Recognize the awesome part you play in your life and relationships. Good luck!
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Happy, joyous birthdays come and go this week as the Sun moves through the most expansive, least controllable sign of the zodiac. While others find it difficult to pin you down or keep you grounded – and they certainly try – they may not understand your essential need to travel. Meanwhile, meditate on the spiritual value of commitment. God bless.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Velvet Venus has found a stable, comfortable home in Capricorn and, as a result, has committed to showering her love, beauty and creativity upon you for weeks and weeks. The upside is an overpowering desire to create, love and share your blessings, wealth and wisdom. Make contact with trusted friends and inspirational people on this journey. Open your heart.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Your ruling planet, wildcat Uranus, continues to snap, crackle and pop the way you perceive life and define reality. Your open mind has opened even wider. Many things you thought would never come to pass have happened. The time-warp speed of our quickly evolving techno-world and society can be daunting. Stability comes through spirit. Find and follow your angels.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) The Dec. 2nd Sagittarius New Moon initiates a theme of busy-ness and accomplishment regarding holiday projects and plans. You may find yourself arranging get-togethers, organizing craft projects or hosting parties that focus on the creative arts. Friends are loving and giving, you enjoy being social and amongst people that inspire you. Have fun!

Visible Planets: Morning: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter Evening: Venus
Scorpio to Sagittarius: A Process of Cosmic, Karmic Evolution
Spirited, impetuous Sagittarius follows on the heels of seductive, charismatic Scorpio, lighting fires of desire and intention spawned in the mysterious wells of soul and psyche. Scorpio is deep and dark, while Sagittarius is uplifted and enlightened. And like all zodiac signs, one leads metaphysically to the other. It is a process of cosmic, karmic evolution; a process of living, being and learning the essence of one particular zodiac sign before entering the classroom of the next. We temper the impulsive, impetuous nature of Aries with the calm patience of Taurus, and then temper the natural tenacity and stick-to-itness of Taurus with the fickle mutability of Gemini. And so it goes. It’s almost as if one sign wants to forget the pitfalls and downside of the previous sign, and jump whole-heartedly into the idealistic possibilities of the one in which it has moved into. The good news is that we have the karmic, cosmic memory of one sign to navigate the waters, and negotiate the twists and turns we encounter in the one we evolve into. On and on, the evolutionary journey continues. Rebirth and resurrection, returning to the Source, round and round, again and again.
The warrior and crusader, the wandering "Fool" of the Tarot, the Buddhist bodhisattva in search of the mythical kingdom of Shambhala, the Sagittarius Archer points his arrow toward the heavens, shoots for the stars, believes in faith and keeps his eyes to the skies. Generous of spirit, positive in nature and enthusiastic when it comes to exploration and discovery, the third and last fire sign of the tropical zodiac uplifts and assists the down and downtrodden, the abused and compromised, the poor and hungry. It is here we find heroes and superheroes, super men, women and children, teachers, gurus and saints.
And this week we celebrate the American tradition of Thanksgiving, the quintessential Sagittarian holiday. Grand tables set with grand cuisine, feasts and fiestas in honor of abundance, successful harvest and the inherent generosity of our Mother Earth. A time to share food, drink, love and laughter, give thanks for our blessings and feel the heartful goodness and spiritual generosity that resides within us all. Blessings and peace, love and laughter. Happy Thanksgiving week to all.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The Sun moves into Sagittarius this week and with it comes a big shift of perspective and consciousness. No matter how “bad” things are, you somehow see the goodness in and all around you. Damage, repair and healing are themes as you recognize the valuable connection between spiritual practice and physical, emotional wellness. Take the high road.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) You may find and feel yourself going deeper and deeper into the psychological mechanics of relationships, all in quest of enlightenment. Hearts open as you fly above your life and, in the process, see the bigger picture. There is much to be grateful for, and it’s a magical shift when you want what you have instead of wanting what you don’t have.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) As our planetary family’s central star moves into your solar 7th house of others, you may feel a rather magnetic pull coming from the outside world into your inner heart and home. This annual celestial crossing marks a symbolic end to the last six months of internal, personal process. Much has transpired inside and now you’re ready to step out, pair and share.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Mercury, Saturn and the Moon’s North Node in Scorpio keep the heart and hearth fires burning as the Sun enters Sagittarius, one of the more “let’s get out and party” signs of the zodiac. This translates as a potential battle of wills as your natural desire to stay home - safe and cozy – is challenged by those who want to get out and about. Balance is key. Find time for both.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Sparks fly and fires ignite as the Sun enters enthusiastic, over-the-top Sagittarius. With recent planetary pulls and pushes, crashes and chaos, it’s hard to stay focused on what’s happy and good. Now you see the trick is in keeping a smile on your face and a song in your heart, no matter what the political or social weather. Cultivate strength of spirit and keep the faith.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) With mighty Mars still marching through Virgo, you may be somewhat mystified by the high quality, sustenance and quantity of personal energy you have for getting things done. Good news: this once every two-year transit pushes you forward into the phase of your ongoing journey through life with the magical power of self-motivation. Go with the “mo”!
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Sparks fly and flames leap as fiery Sagittarius is fed by the elemental air of Libra, making this one of the most exciting, uplifting times of the year. Gratitude engenders grace, and grace is one of the most beautiful, peaceful feelings and experiences of living. Embrace the blessings of simplicity. Share your story, express love and hug your friends.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Quick on the heels of your birthday month comes the biggest, flaming bonfire of the tropical zodiac. Sagittarius loves grandeur, thrives on gratitude and discovers grace in its holy journey through the cosmos. As a soul-seeker and student of spirit, you admire the big-hearted confidence of your neighbor. Learn by example. Let go and let God.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Happy birthday month to the flaming spirit and wild fire of Sagittarius. Your idealistic core has been challenged lately with the down-to-earth challenges and practical logistics of living in a world of social, economic and political insanity. Greed and hypocrisy run rampant amongst both the masses and elite. Breathe deep, cultivate courage and keep a strong heart.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) The Sun’s entrance into neighboring Sagittarius initiates a magical time of inner reflection and spiritual connection. Seek out quiet, sacred spaces and private places of peace and calm. Practice the art of silence, pay attention to internal dialogues and work on stopping the chatter. Surrender, compassion, mediation and prayer are allies. Relax in the now.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Thanksgiving week is upon us and the power of gratitude rules supreme. The holiday season is perennially one of friendship and fellowship, a time to embrace brothers and kiss sisters. The desire to give altruistically, act philanthropically and share in general directs and guides your course. Spiritual and material generosity work miracles now. Follow your heart.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) Generous Jupiter’s station retrograde in early November marked the beginning of a prolonged period of return regarding personal creativity, love for children and artistically fueled pastimes. Open you heart to self-nurturing, self-care and self-expression as you resurrect and reinvent the artist and child within. Be your own boss, manifest and create via heartfelt love.

Starry Clouds, Magic Carpets and the World of Spirit
As the last “eclipse window” of 2013 slowly closes, I am filled with the deep, powerful emotion and down-to-earth acceptance that only a Scorpio/Taurus eclipse cycle can bring. I am reminded that feelings engender awakening and growth. When we are moved by something or someone, our hearts open. We feel a shift, a change of heart. We float upon starry clouds, fly on magic carpets and touch the world of spirit.
Life delivers pain and sorrow, joy and laughter. And as the Buddha so elouquently reminds us in his teachings, life is suffering. And it is also bliss and ecstasy, nirvana.
We may seek the mythical kingdom of Shambahla, a hidden, secret, sacred place of peace, tranquility and happiness, high in the mountains of Tibet, or set sail in quest of treasure on high and rolling seas.
We travel our roads, share our journeys and in the end, return to the Source. Like Dorothy and Toto’s trip on the yellow brick road from Kansas to Oz and back again, we eventually all come home.
The solar eclipse new Moon of November 3rd @ 11º16’ Scorpio comes to fruition on November 17th at 8:16 am MST in the exact Sun/Moon opposition aspect of a full Moon @ 25º26’ Scorpio/Taurus. This celestial event closes the window on the 2013 eclipse cycle, and it’s time, once again, to make peace with our experiences, accept our challenges and walk in the light of truth.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Voluptuous Venus plays an active role in your week, with powerful aspects to both the Moon and Uranus in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces. All this translates as a few rock and roll days of physical change and emotional challenge, followed by an experience of deep soul transformation and ultimate spiritual enlightenment. Good luck!
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) The year’s last solar eclipse lunar cycle comes to fruition on Nov. 17th in a Taurus full Moon, illuminating themes of relationship regarding birth and death, holding on to and letting go. As the most practical, earth-centered, materially aware sign of the zodiac, you love equations of action and consequence, give and take. Remain open to x-factors. Things can change.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Bringing light to darkness is and has been the resonating Taurus/Scorpio full Moon theme this week and zodiac month. What lies hidden beneath superficial facades and self-destructive behaviors is now emerging amidst the smoke and mirrors of denial and dysfunction. Scorpio teaches us to face fears and surrender attachments. Taurus says, “Be realistic.” Do both.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) With the Sun, Mercury, North Node and Saturn all in fellow water-sign Scorpio as the Moon grows full, you may discover a variety of ways to use the lights of love and beauty to help and heal your own and other’s broken hearts and dreams. Life is short, so why not enjoy and embrace the magical, mystical journey as it comes and goes? Be the love and beauty.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) All full Moons bring light to darkness, and this one is even more so, as it spotlights Scorpio – the sign most concerned with what lies hidden – those taboo and secret rivers running below the radar of our awareness. And for the Lion, who thrives in sunshine, dark devils and demons are scary. No worries, you are a brave, courageous warrior. Embrace the light.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) This week’s Scorpio/Taurus full Moon challenges the Virgin to let go of the comfortable and familiar patterns that keep you stuck, showing you exactly what needs to be let go. Taurus encourages stability and security, but Scorpio pressures you to bank on Spirit. Material possessions are transitory and money cannot buy happiness. Develop talents and self-esteem.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Venus in Capricorn and Ceres in Libra summon the intuitive, nurturing power of the feminine to lead the way now. Meanwhile, powerful planetary alignments to your beautiful, benefic ruler invoke the energies of evolution and revolution to redefine the rules of partnership. Cooperation, ingenuity and integrity are allies in battle for peace. Simply do your best.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) We are here on Earth, riding the tides of evolution as spiritual warriors – bodhisattvas – in our physical, human forms. Of all the signs, Scorpios are the most adept at understanding the interface between light and dark, faith and fear, pleasure and pain. In the sea of dichotomy and polarity, balance is your ship of gold. Full moonlight illuminates a path of honesty, integrity, truth, emotional sobriety and heartfelt compassion. Lead the way.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) The recent end to a three-week Mercury retrograde comes with a big sigh of relief and an attitude of gratitude as you see the forest for the trees and the meaning behind the madness. Perfection is an elusive, illusionary muse, one to abandon if you desire peace and happiness in any way, shape or form. Rather than criticize and critique, accept and be thankful.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Telling squares by love-and-beauty planet Venus to both the Moon and revolutionary Uranus, followed by a conjunction to Pluto, set the stage for a week of metamorphic awakening, awareness and change regarding relationships and personal self. Open your heart and embrace what comes. Direct your attention to Spirit, see its goodness and cultivate faith.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) These times are rife with chaos, awakening and change. As we open our eyes and see the truth, we are often disturbed and disheartened. The good news is that we can see, intuit and process. We can take the time and effort to do the inner work to invoke personal adjustment and right action. As a pre-eminent co-creator of the Aquarian Age, take charge and go forth.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) This week, a variety of aspects involving Venus – including an uplifting sextile to ruler Neptune – plus the direct station of Chiron in Pisces, encourages self-sufficient, practical approaches and solutions to long-standing relationship concerns and issues. An emotionally detached, but highly compassionate attitude toward others is favored now. Take action.

The Cracks and Breaks of Love, Life & Light
The other day a girlfriend told me how she mentioned to someone that she felt like her life was cracking. The response she got from that someone about her comment was this: “That’s a good thing, because when your life cracks, it lets the light in.”
And that reminded me of something I had heard years ago from one of my older sister’s oldest, best boyfriends: “When your heart breaks, it breaks open.”
Both ideas sum up how I’ve been feeling lately. They constellate the dichotomy of experience and polarities of emotion during periods of challenge and conflict, pain and loss. Suffering is the mother of solution; we experience, learn and, ultimately, we grow. These days and times are rife with cracks, breaks, openings and streaming light. The recent solar and lunar eclipses have delivered their characteristic awakenings, illumination and enlightenment. Some lessons are easier to learn than others, some losses are easier to accept.
Planetary cycles and aspects, lunar phases, solar rays and flares, exploding stars and revolving seasons manifest gravitational pulls and electromagnetic fields that effect our Earth and all life upon it. We are part and particle of an infinitely eternal cosmic dance, listening to celestial music and traveling amongst the spheres.
Blessings and peace, may your journey be one of illuminating light and open-hearted love.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The exact square of Uranus in your sign to Pluto in Capricorn on Nov. 1st was no doubt intense, forcing you to fight or take flight. You may have felt abused or damaged emotionally by someone in a position of authority or respect. The function of all these battles is that of self-awakening. Listen to the messages and cultivate inner strength.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Relationship issues reign supreme in the steamy heat of the Scorpio sun-time. Other people, places and things revolve around you like planets around a central star. Remain centered and don’t let other’s drama, chaos or dysfunction pull you out of orbit. Acceptance is a powerful ally on the road to inner peace. Seek spiritual guidance whenever and wherever you can.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Ruler Mercury ends its three-week retrograde phase in early Scorpio on Nov. 10th – hallelujah! You can take a deep breath and sigh with relief. The recent conflicts and emotional challenges you have experienced lately have taken their toll. Helping and taking care of others is a double-edged sword, and it can hurt. Times are tough; so take good care of you.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) On the tail of two eclipses and an exact Uranus/Pluto square in cardinal signs, you may be feeling rather over-worked, over-whelmed and over-wrought. Hammered and shaped by life experience and involvement, you are a continual work-in-progress. Sweet planet Venus in your solar 7th house of others attracts love and beauty to your home and heart. Indulge.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) The intense, dynamic energies of the last several weeks has pushed buttons and pulled heartstrings, testing your strength, faith and will. The good news is that you are being uplifted, guided and protected by guardian angels and benefic spirits; taking you places you’ve never been and always wanted to go. Breathe deep, and say your prayers. Follow the light.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Mars in mid-Virgo reaches out to touch your heart and push you forward on the path of personal achievement. Cherished dreams and deep desires dance amongst the more realistic and attainable goals, fueling fires and turning up the heat. A practical, enlightened approach is best. In other words, don’t go into a dark room without a flashlight or a road trip without a map.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) The most telling of seven exact Uranus/Pluto squares in Aries/Capricorn last week was especially excitable and stressful for cardinal signs, pushing the limits on patience and tolerance. If you blew up, hurt others or expressed yourself in ways you regret, make amends and use the experience to awaken and grow. No one is perfect. Forgive yourself and go forth.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) While others find you sexy, charismatic and seductive, you may remain cool to your own charms and attractions. Breathe deep, exhale and relax. Accept yourself as a beautiful child of the universe, a miracle of life and death. Venus now in Capricorn favors communication with those you love. Open your heart to kind words and romantic expressions. Be sweet.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) You may find yourself at work in some highly creative enterprise or expression of art as Venus, the planet of love and beauty, enters your solar 2nd house of personal talents and resources. Utilize innate, natural abilities as often as possible. Relax in your confidence and embrace the freedom of responsibility. Keep on track and stay the course.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) You may be at the center of several conflicts and agendas, attempting to settle disagreements or enforce laws, follow rules or enact legislation. Whatever the manifestation, recognize the futility of force. Enlightenment is the name of the game. Others must come to awakening at their own pace and time. Lead by example. It’s all about attraction rather than promotion.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) There is no doubt that you are the leader of the pack, the man at the helm, the one willing to take charge. The good news is that you are ready and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Others see you as competent and in control, and you are. Just don’t forget that you are also imperfect. Listen and laugh, cultivate compassion, organize and execute.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) As the first week of the Scorpio lunar month unfolds, tap into higher self living and being. The material earth plane, with all its greed and grasping, can be so disgusting, dysfunctional and disheartening. Once again, it’s time to follow the sacred path of the warrior, move toward the sharp points and open your heart. Be the change you want the world to be.

Halloween, Saints & Souls, la Dia de los Muertos New Moon Eclipse
Happy Halloween and blessed Dia de los Muertos – Day of the Dead - All Souls Day and All Saints Day; we commemorate the living and dead, those who have come and gone, lived and loved, struggled and thrived – all of us - along with the holiest of the holy, the best of the best and the worst of the worst. We are here together on planet Earth, making the most of a crazy world, the highly evolved human condition we call today.
As we approach the last eclipse of 2013, the November 3rd New Moon solar eclipse – which takes place during a cross-quarter week of elevated electromagnetic force – I can feel the strong pull of life and loss upon my heart. Santo Knute el Bueno, a man of great spiritual and material wealth, has passed from this physical earth plane into the realm of spirit. I do not know what happens when we die. I do know that All Hallowed Eve is a time to honor the dead, pray for crossing souls and make contact with those who have passed from this realm to the next. New Moons favor fresh starts and new beginnings. Blessings and peace. May the journey be rich and the adventure divine.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) You may find yourself delving into the enigmatic mysteries of life and death and feeling powerful emotions as a result. Planetary emphasis in your solar 8th house of the soul and psyche has you reviewing the past, missing those who have passed and then rededicating yourself to living a life better for having known and loved them.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Mars in Virgo trines Pluto Capricorn on Halloween, encouraging order, organization and structure when it comes to parties, dress-ups and trick-or-treats. Spirits manifest in physical and metaphysical forms as pumpkins glow with golden light, illuminating the veil between worlds. Enjoy the fun, open your heart and see the magic in and all around you.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) With ruler Mercury retrograde in sensual, seductive Scorpio, you may find yourself reawakening to the seething power of sexuality, reliving past intimacy or considering a secret tryst with someone you find irresistible. Acting upon your fantasies is unlikely, however, as Mars in Virgo keeps reminding you to mind your p’s and q’s. Celebrate the season with magic.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) The Scorpio zodiac month provides Moonchildren with plenty of time and chances for making hay while the Sun is shining. Indian Summer glows with romantic, creative and spiritual opportunity. Re-examine and refine your definition of love. What and who really stirs your heart? Compassionate communication is a magic wand. Express feelings, share thoughts.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) All Saints Day follows All Souls Day and both are celebrations of mystery and magic. The enigmatic puzzles of life and death dance between the worlds as leaves whirl and spirits rise. Old ghosts and shimmering images of childhood, home and family evoke feelings and emotions that carry clues to current issues and agendas. Listen to and follow your heart.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Halloween delivers a magical day of fun and fancy as excitable Mars in Virgo harmoniously aspects powerful Pluto in aristocratic Capricorn. Dress up like a king, queen, prince or princess as you parade amongst the ghosts and goblins of Samhain. Make elegance your theme and dance amongst and under the stars. Light candles, say prays and set out treats.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) The season of ghosts, witches and werewolves, shamans and shape-shifters is here. As clocks tick and fires ignite, tap into the mystical realms of soul and spirit. Dial the hotline to heaven or gaze into the deep, starry, blue-black sky. The veil between the worlds is thin, reach out and touch the spirits. Ask questions and listen, the answers will come. Focus on love.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Happy birthdays continue as golden leaves fall upon golden grass and nighttime candles flicker with golden flames. Plenty of gold for those seeking gold. The magic of illumination is everywhere and enlightenment is a journey. These days are made for living presently and learning as you go. Embrace it all and stay on the path. You are golden light, glimmer with gold.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20)The shimmering Sun, retrograde Mercury and Master Teacher Saturn in your solar 12th house of life karma and soul surrender encourages depth, realism and compassion in your current life review. Forgiving yourself and others for past wrongs, making amends, cultivating humility and taking the ego out of the equation awards you with inner peace. Relax.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Friends and fellowships award you with a sense of vitality, camaraderie and connectedness this All Saints and Souls Day week. Take the time to look out for witches and spirits along the way; you may be surprised by their presence. An open and willing heart is your ally now. Refrain from outworn inner dialogs and dysfunctional behaviors. Change the channel.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Achievement, accomplishment and getting the job done in general has been the thematic mantra of past and present weeks. Now it’s time to take a break and soar amongst the otherworldly realms of soul and spirit. Eclipse energy continues to take away the dead and dying and rebirth backs the vital and vibrant. Love it all with goodness and grace.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) A week of waxing darkness paves the way for the year’s final solar eclipse. What better time to plant seeds of intention and desire in the fertile cosmic womb? And don’t forget to say your prayers. Golden humility is a magical, mystical experience, opening doors to the lands beyond the limits of ego. Surrender to eternity and soar amongst the stars.

Times of Passage & the Grace of Acceptance
Eclipse cycles have been - and will forever be – times of passage for me. I look through my life and see a pattern of turning points, milestones and inner change. Some years are, of course, more memorable than others. The passing of Princess Diana and Mother Teresa during the Virgo eclipse cycle of 1997, the initiation of Bush 41’s Gulf War on the Capricorn solar eclipse in mid-January 1991, the loss of my sweet niece Lise during the November Scorpio eclipse cycle of 1994, and the recent death of beautiful 23 year-old Elizabeth Patterson on a deep, dark, magnificently starry night, as the May 2013 eclipse cycle was drawing to a close. And then, the good times. Remembering the first time I actually watched the Earth totally eclipse the Moon at a party up in Gold Hill outside of Boulder during my freshman year of college; feeling the other-worldly solar eclipse energy out in our tree farm in May 1994 as the brightly shining Sun dimmed to a magical glow, making the blue spruce sparkle with some sort of inner silver light; lying below the deeply red-orange eclipsed Moon on a rooftop deck in Todos Santos at midnight in December 2011 to the sound of waves breaking along the beach; and the recent solar eclipse here in the West End, when images of the eclipsing Sun were sprayed all over our house and yard as the fiery orb descended below the western horizon.
I always take a deep breath, close my eyes and pray for the grace of acceptance as each eclipse cycle rolls around. My heart knows the pain of loss and the joyous embrace of something magnificent; both are transformational. I feel that whether the events, experiences and effects of any eclipse cycle are categorized as good or bad, the energies act as an evolutionary force upon the planet. They carry the information, omens and messages of awakening and metamorphosis, whether it be personal, professional, social, individual or collective.
On October 13th at 6:00 am, my husband Richard and I lost one of our best friends, a compadre and comrade, a true brother in arms, Joseph Gerald “Knute” Hylan. His death took place ten days following the October new Moon, a week prior to the full Moon lunar eclipse of October 18tth - and right smack, dab in the middle of the waxing phase of our current eclipse cycle.
Once again, I mark the significance of life and death, the sad and joyful endings and beginnings that wrap iridescent threads around my heart. Like a shimmering tapestry of light and color, I see my friend and feel his presence, his spirit, his will. Dressed like Buffalo Bill – of whom he was a New Age carbon copy – and just as entertaining, he is off riding the wind, skating the ethers and skiing the stars. His memorial mass takes place on October 30th – the day before Halloween – and I’ll be there, counting my blessings, praying for his heavenly crossing and riding the range of gratitude, loss, love and shadow.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The waning Moon cycle gives you plenty of time to look within, see and feel just who and what resides inside. Spirit is your friend these days and will provide you with all the support, guidance and strength you need. But, of course, you must first seekit to find it. Golden treasures are laced between layers of learned behavior and instinctive defense. Don’t give up.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Mental Mercury goes retrograde in your solar 7th house of relationship this week and remains so until mid-November, doubling up on time to discuss, process and consider options, ideas and directions of your current commitments and responsibilities regarding others. Take it slow and easy as you go, waiting until Mercury goes direct to make important choices and decisions.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Ruling planet Mercury stations retrograde in Scorpio this week, putting a spin on your thinking and re-opening doors and options you thought had closed. Once again, the best laid plans of mice and men can and do change. Rather than get confused, upset or lost in chaos, utilize the shift as a gift. All activities with the prefix “re” are favored. Plenty of job security there!
Cancer (June 21-July 22) The waning Moon lessens in size and brightness this week as eclipse windows remain open. Breathe in the winds of change and fresh air of awakening as you re-process and re-define your place, station and situation in life and love. A three-week period of assessment and understanding of the heart awaits you. Feel and heat. Know and grow.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) With the Sun, Mercury and Saturn in Scorpio, you may be feeling the magical, magnetic pull of home and family deep within your heart and soul. A somewhat nostalgic, sentimental energy envelops your reality as you stroll down memory lane. Tap into the glimmers and glows of past experience to re-create your life and loves. Take your time, make it beautiful.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) The Scorpio zodiac month presents the Virgin with numerous opportunities for changing the way you perceive and interpret reality. If you have you been looking at life through lenses that magnifies fear, doubt and negativity, it is time to take off the glasses. Retrofit your perception via a daily practice of cleanliness, mediation and gratitude.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) The Scorpio sun-time presents you with the second month of your annual journey around the zodiac, awakening you to personal power and resources. Check in with what you really want and desire. Recognize the power of responsible choice and use it wisely. Mercury retrograde and Saturn encourage a deep process of realistic re-evaluation. Take your time.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Happy birthday to the most mysterious, metaphysically rich sign of the tropical zodiac. Magnetically attractive, naturally charismatic and sensually seductive, others find you hard to resist. And that is exactly why they resist you. The knowledge that surrender is victory and that humility is grace can easily be forgotten. Take the time to remember.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Angels flutter and guardian spirits fly about you in an annual dance of hocus-pocus and hullabaloo. Tap into divine spirit and holy hallelujah as you surrender to the sizzling sensations of the season. Halloween week offers plenty of chances to communicate with those who walk between worlds. Relax and enjoy the possibilities. Open your heart to love eternal.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Eclipse energy continues to push and pressure you toward adjustment and amendment, and it’s all-good. Human nature is relatively predictable, yet highly enigmatic. When and where we make those turns and choices on life’s magical journey is a thing of wonder. Everyone is different, and yet the same. Review and reassess for three more weeks. Take it easy.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Pressure to get it done and finish the job continues. The good news is that Mercury retrograde for three weeks actually favors exactly what you want and need. Keep the ball rolling, delegate authority and be willing to let others take responsibility. Just recognize and accept that they are not you. Focus on clear instruction, write it down and accept what comes.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) Ethereal realms and spiritual planes may entice and intrigue you as seasonal changes invoke the magical and mysterious. Have some fun with Halloween festivities and gatherings. Druids and witches, bonfires and harvests announce the Celtic end of summer and initiation of winter. Increasing darkness favors introspection. Kindle inner and outer fires.

The Crossroads, Tipping Points and Awakenings of Eclipses
Eclipses are extra potent new and full Moons, heralding major endings and beginnings. They mark crossroads, tipping points and opportunities to move forward on our soul’s journey through the cosmos. Issues related to our natal planets and houses activated by an eclipse come to light during the open “eclipse window” – the time two weeks before, during, and two weeks after the actual eclipse. And because eclipses most often take place in pairs – occasionally they occur in trinity – eclipse windows last for approximately 6 weeks.
Our current eclipse cycle involves the October 18th [@ 25º 45’ Libra/Aries] full Moon lunar eclipse [@ 5:38 pm MDT] and the follow-up new Moon solar eclipse on November 3rd [@ 11º16’ Scorpio.]
The first occurring lunar eclipse indicates that we are in a powerful process of enlightenment regarding Libra/Aries issues – which are primarily issues of self in relation to others - and that the experiences, awakenings and realizations we encounter, acquire and embrace during the lunar eclipse will provide us with the information, knowledge, facts and data that will influence and ultimately determine the direction we choose to take in our relationships at the time of the Scorpio new Moon solar eclipse two weeks later. Scorpio is the sign of mystery and magic, death and rebirth, the soul and psyche; Scorpio solar and lunar eclipses are arguably the most powerful ending and beginning points of the tropical zodiac year.
This week, lunar light illuminates our roles and responsibilities, as well as our resistance or attraction to others. It’s the perfect time to feel our feelings – the Moon loves emotions – gather information, clarify intentions and desires, and prepare for the close of a major phase and cycle regarding our commitments and involvements. The two weeks following the Oct. 18th lunar eclipse - as the Moon wanes and nights grow deeper and darker – present us with an unusually fertile and metaphysically rich segment of time to dive deeply into our own souls and psyche. We are on the hero’s quest of golden treasure – the Truth.
Good luck and may your journey be one of illumination, enlightenment and true value.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Sweet Venus trines unpredictable Uranus in fire signs this week, portending a surprising, far-reaching change. The potential to be free of self-imposed prisons presents itself. Are you willing to take that leap of faith? Virtue is its own reward here; simply do the next right thing. Tap into your highest self and nurture goodness, true health and spiritual wealth.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) This week’s full Moon lunar eclipse evokes issues of spirit and doubt. In other words, you may peruse the possibilities of life on the other side, the power of prayer or the existence of spiritual forces. Whatever the manifestation, remain open to the cosmic energies in and all around you. As a magician and master, you are creating karma as you go. Live in the light.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Libra/Aries is the polarity of relationship, a metaphysical mirror that reflects the image of self in the people, places and things to which you have chosen to be involved and committed. If you don’t like someone or something, it is best to take action to change yourself, your situation or environment. Friends and allies are there to help and assist. Ask and receive.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Issues of home, family, place of residence and professional direction square off in a dance of priority and possibility. While this week may feel challenging or difficult, just remember that crisis is opportunity and change is rebirth. Solutions come via positive thinking and the willingness to grow. Travel, explore and experience new territory. Treasures await.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) A full Moon lunar eclipse in Libra/Aries shines illuminating light upon your most important relationships. How well are you communicating? Do you need to tell someone how you feel or – more importantly – listen to them? Keep a good sense of humor and be willing to laugh. Feel good emotions come via spiritual understanding and openhearted love.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) With mighty Mars now transiting your sun-sign, you may feel highly motivated and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Personally, this is an excellent time for self-fueled action regarding desires, hopes and dreams. Self-responsibility is an ally and friend, empowering you in ways that nothing else can. Get a road map and follow the signs. Happy trails.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) This year has been challenging, to say the least. Juggling family matters, personal responsibilities, professional goals and relationship demands has been taxing. Somehow, you have maintained sanity. However, the serenity of inner peace has proven elusive. Of course, you won’t give up. You understand the forces of karma, love and peace. Onward, cosmic traveler!
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) This week’s rather intense eclipse energy encourages the Scorpion to seek inner peace via meditation and prayer. While the physical, empirical world has obviously gone crazy; you can still find a magical, healing sanctuary within. Find an enlightening text or ritual that calms your spirit and soothes your soul. Tap into the realm of spirit. Breathe deep and relax.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) You may find yourself full of vim and vigor, outraged or inspired to change the world or your neighborhood this week. Political realities may prove challenging, but you understand the strength of spirit. A positive attitude and right action are allies. Others rally and participate in pro-active solutions; many hands make quick work of the job at hand.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Seductive Pluto in Capricorn squares unpredictable Uranus as the Earth eclipses the Moon, putting an extra dose of challenge on your emotionally charged karmic plate. While this aspect is exact-exact on Halloween, you are feeling the effects. Radical change is the name of the game and it’s high time to see the light and get on the path. Embrace the unknown.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) As the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow and we experience the year’s last lunar eclipse, attention is drawn to the emotional body and what remains stored in the unconscious. Hidden motives and fears, suppressed desires or buried wounds may emerge rather suddenly. Focus on direct, honest self-sufficiency and responsibility, rather than rage or anger. Do it right!
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) Mars, traditional ruler of Aries, has moved into Virgo and opposes ruler Neptune in Pisces this week. This aspect constellates the spiritual warrior and divine masculine, which sustains and protects life instead of dominating or destroying it. Act upon your ideals and advocate for those who are neglected, imprisoned or enslaved. Empathy and altruism are allies.

Chilling Frosts, the River of Souls & Ascending, Descending Spirits
Chilling frosts and a deep, killing freeze announced the end of our yearly growing season. Gardening on the high mountain mesas of southwestern Colorado is always challenging. Every year and season brings a different set of factors to the horticultural equation; it is an eternally enlightening learning curve.
Tomatoes, peppers, garlic, carrots and basil, plus a variety of green vegetables and herbs, made it all worthwhile. I’m waiting now for a freshly harvested batch of seed garlic to show up at my post office box so I can plant cloves for next year's harvest. Of course, first I have to pull the leftover weeds from the garden this year, add compost and nutrients to the soil and then turn it all over and under. Always plenty of work, but it’s good work and I’m grateful to have it, out here in the wild west end. Mother Nature is awesome.
And the stars in early October are both enchanting and stunning. I love to walk out at night, fill my lungs with cool, crisp evening air and watch the first constellations of autumn rise above the eastern horizon. The Milky Way’s River of Souls sparkles and shimmers a pathway to the lands beyond, as both Venus and Saturn shine brightly in the western twilight, Maxfield Parrish sky.
This week we will see the Moon grow bigger and brighter each night, as it moves toward the exact opposition aspect of a Libra/Aries lunar eclipse on October 18th @ 4:38 pm MDT. The stars will dim as the Moon grows full. And it looks like autumn has arrived in full force; the spirits are out! As the veil between worlds is grows thin, pay attention to bumps in the night, wicked winds and synchronistic occurence. And, as always, keep your eyes on the skies and watch out for witches!
Good luck, happy harvest and may the mystical, magical, metaphysical forces of the season be in and all around you!
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The Moon waxes and energy builds as we approach the last lunar eclipse of 2013. Taking place in the late Aires/Libra polarity, you may feel and finally understand the magnitude of your personal influence upon your own life and relationships. It’s easy to blame problems on others, but after all, you are the creator. Embrace the freedom of responsibility.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Communication and interaction with others is a theme this week as Mercury in your solar 7th house of longterm relationships stimulates talk, discussion and thought. Venus now in Sag softens the heart and opens the door to intimate sharing. Joint business ventures and shared investments prove rewarding. Good time to clean, weed and discard.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) If you find yourself stuck at work or chained to a project, make a concerted effort to get unstuck and unchained. The world is transforming outside your door and it’s high time you got out and about to see the magnificence. The autumn gold, peach and crimson is something you must not miss; it feeds your soul and uplifts your spirit. Happy trails!
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Love planet Venus enters Scorpio - your solar 5th house of love, creativity and romance – so put on your sweetest smile and prettiest outfit. The magnificence of autumn; cool nights and crisp mornings paired with brilliant Indian Summer days stirs your heart and awakens spirit. Get creative and express your inner magic. Cuddle up, enjoy inner warmth.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) Motivational Mars moves through the last degrees of Leo this week, providing a boost of energy and shot in the arm regarding personal agendas, desires and goals. Do what you can to get it all done, but refrain from over-exertion and exhaustion. Balance equations and act accordingly. Sometimes overdoing it leads to breakdown; sometimes not.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Home is where the heart is, and this week you feel it strongly. Recent sojourns and time away from your own space may have taken its toll. Indulge yourself in evenings of rest and relaxation, nurture body and soul with hot baths, comfy couches and crackling fires. Daytime translates as action. Mars now in Virgo motivates and excites you. Do the next right thing.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Happy Birthdays continue as you celebrate another revolution around the Sun. Count your blessings as you experience the miracle of life. A full and grateful heart leaves little room for fear and doubt. See the magic, explore the beauty as Mother Nature paints an opus magnus of brilliant gold and crimson. How did you get so lucky? Karma? Embrace goodness, it’s all you need.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Voluptuous Venus moves from Scorpio into Sagittarius this week, ending a month long stay in your sign. Whatever has come to pass recently in romance and finance, know that it is – now and/or later – good stuff. Relax in the comfort of your own soul, bend with the breeze and change with the weather. You’re in the driver’s seat, chart your course, stay on the path.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) With Venus now in Sagittarius and Mars moving into Virgo, brace yourself for a sweet, rather exciting battle of wills and desires. Other people, places and things may challenge your position or ask you to change your course. It may feel like a crisis, but it’s really a magnificent opportunity dressed in disguise. Attempt to see beneath the veil and move with the groove.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) The upcoming cardinal lunar eclipse is bound to get your attention and challenge core realities. Now is the time to clean your closet and dump your trash. Take a searching and moral inventory of yourself and your life. Release attachment and judgment as much as possible so you can move into a place of balance and equilibrium. Rediscover soul and spirit.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Friends show up with happy faces and good vibrations. Recent trials and tribulations mellow in the fire of camaraderie. It’s easy to get caught up in ego agendas, personality conflicts and battles of will. Remember that you are right for you and only you. If you are employing others, make sure they are willing to do what you ask. Lighten your load, live and let go.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) Good things come to those who work overtime here and there in the effort of goal accomplishment. And don’t be surprised when others show up to help and assist you. But, for some reason, you are enjoying the process. It feels so good to get ‘er done! Infuse your abundant creativity in your projects for even more satisfaction and reward. It’s autumn, enjoy!.

The Libra Temple of Love and Peace is in the Heart
“Intention is everything. Quantum physics tells us that mind and matter are not separate, that the observer affects the observed. By focusing our attention, light waves become particles; reality emerges from an infinite sea of possibilities. New Moons are optimal times to set new intentions, and in Libra, the cosmic wave guides us toward how we could engender more balance in our life, more love in our relationship and more peace in the world.” - Stephanie Austin, The Mountain Astrologer, Oct/Nov 2013
Libra is the sign of peace, love and harmony. And don’t forget to throw in a big dose of beauty – artistic, aesthetically pleasing beauty, if possible – as Libra energy gravitates toward the pretty and pleasant, finds comfort in the calm and peaceful, and must have equality, truth, balance and justice in personal, social and professional relationships.
When exposed to brutal, vulgar, ruthless, cruel, harsh or uncouth people, situations and behaviors, Libra is enflamed, enraged and either totally disgusted or radically motivated to initiate change or run the other way. Above all, Libra loves peace and must maintain balance in their lives and relationships. Therefore, the Libra zodiac month – and New Moon especially – favors all actions, attitudes and behaviors that encourage, support and nurture equality, justice, beauty, harmony, balance and peace.
Libra is the sign of partnership and marriage, the piece of the pie that joins, pairs and shares. For all of us, the October 4th Libra New Moon presents a magnificently polished silver platter of opportunity regarding new and existing relationships. We can see our own reflection in the shiny platter, identify those parts of ourselves that need improvement, set our best intentions for betterment and then go about taking action to manifest our desires.
The Libra New Moon takes place this year on October 4th at 6:34 pm MDT, when the Sun and Moon come together at the 12th degree of the Tropical Zodiac’s 7th sign. Its close proximity to the 15º middle degree of the sign amplifies the archetypal Libra message of going halfway to meet a friend, adversary or partner, taking the Middle Way or Path of the Buddha and opening our hearts to the spiritual quest of reconciliation amongst opposites.
When our hearts are open, we realize our connection and equality with all life. When our hearts are closed, we are imprisoned in the illusion of duality and separation.” - Stephanie Austin, TMA, Oct/Nov 2013
Let us open our hearts…
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) The Libra New Moon offers you a powerful new beginning regarding important relationships. What feedback do you get from partners regarding personal actions and behaviors? Is what you see in others simply a self-reflecting mirror? What types of people do you find attractive? Consider your part, knowing what you give is what you get.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) The Oct. 4th Libra New Moon encourages fresh starts and new beginnings in private, intimate, personal relationships and involvements. And, most important of all, the relationship you have to Spirit. In times of stress, challenge and trouble, there are invisible forces waiting in the wings to help, guide and assist you. Consider the possibilities, open the door.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Autumn forever stirs the heart and inflames the soul with the beauty of life and death. Changing colors, shifting winds and the infusion of spirit in the witch’s pot of potions and possibilities opens the door to mystery and magic. Romance blossoms in the waxing light of the Libra New Moon. Watch for Venus in the western twilight sky and pay homage to her splendor.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Home is where the heart is and this week you feel and experience the deep wisdom of these time-honored words. The cooling weather of autumn shifts your focus from the outside to the inside, external to internal and outer to inner. Take some time to examine what you find in the fire of soul and spirit. Be kind and gentle, bright in the light of truth.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) With the Sun in Libra and Mars in Leo, you may be feeling inspired by and motivated to follow your heart. Pay attention to what you see, feel and hear. The universe and spirit are attempting to show you the way to true happiness and inner peace. Take a good look at ego based behaviors, reactions and agendas. You acquire greatness by cultivating humility.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) As you birthday year falls into its second zodiac month, consider the concept of personal responsibility. Knowing the difference between what you can change and what you cannot is the key to success and happiness. Understanding the power of choice, the pleasure of responsibility and the freedom of acceptance are golden keys to enlightenment. Follow the light.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) As candles are lit and cakes are cut, take a deep breath and consider the magnificence of life here on planet Earth. Think about what inspires and uplifts your spirit, makes you feel good and provides you with inner peace. Venus in your solar 2nd house of talents and resources encourages creative, artistic expression. Walk in beauty, follow the light,
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) A posse of planets in your sign – including love planet Venus – signals the need to let go of what keeps you in darkness or denial, open your heart and make the changes you need to make – inside and out. The power of desires is awesome. Do you what to be your higher, best self or a shadow of who and what you truly are. You have the courage, keep the faith.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Libra energy uplifts and expands you spiritually, healing wounds and allowing you to see the physical world in a more optimistic, generous light. Consider your hopes, wishes and dreams. What inspires you to create? What is your dream job or place to live? Take time out to explore options and possibilities as you follow the path of knowledge and growth.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Libra’s symbol, the Scales, traces back to ancient Egypt, where it was believed that the heart of the deceased was weighed against the feather of truth. As one who understand the equations of action and consequence - aka karma - you are quintessentially attuned to these times. Corruption and power are being exposed. Be the best you can be.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) Looking at life through rose-colored glasses is not what you do. The hard, cold light of day and the hidden possibilities of darkness are more to your liking. Today, however, you must deal with the mysteries of spirit. Is 3D reality an illusion? Expand your mind via travel, foreign culture and global possibilities. Think out of the box. Begin a new regime.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) As the Sun and Moon come together in Libra on Oct. 4th in the shape of a delicate New Moon, take a good look at how you might improve your health, look and feel better, and – most important of all – feel good about you. Inner peace is a magical tool, it heals the heart and calms the soul. Work to establish a daily routine of meditation, exercise and prayer.

Increasing Darkness and the Season of Inner Light
Getting and staying in touch with natural cycles takes time, effort and a big dose of relaxation. In other words, we have to take the time to slow down and take notice of the natural world around us. Our hustle-bustle, fast-paced, cyber-spaced lives bombard us with visible and invisible information, images and vibrations. Manmade, humanly created and generated electromagnetic fields surround us. Thoughts, words and deeds demand attention. Internal dialogues work overtime, repeat themes and hold us hostage to physical, social and professional models and ideals. Meanwhile, the Earth turns, seasons change, super novas explode and galaxies expand. Cosmic rays dance in space, starlight shimmers and planets revolve around their Suns.
Sometimes, I find it hard to reduce myself to what I am, a bundled particle of mass and light, interconnected and interacting with a multi-plex of other bundled particles. Nothing and something, one and many, different, unique, miraculous and yet common, made of the same stuff as everything and everyone else. And there are also times when I forget that emotions are like the weather and that “this too shall pass.” When the wind is howling, blowing and crashing, it feels like it will always be blowing, howling and crashing. When rains thrash and turn into floods, it seems like the rain will never go away. When I am sad, hurt and depressed, or struggling with other’s pain, sorrow and loss, joy and happiness seem like a distant fairyland, a long-gone fantasy of love and laughter.
Autumn equinox is a day of changing electromagnetic light and force on planet Earth. Spring equinox marks the season of increasing light and external focus, while the autumnal equinox marks the season of growing darkness and inner development.
Last week, on September 21st, I picked my brother-in-law Jim up at the airport in Grand Junction. We drove back via Unaweep Canyon, Gateway, Naturita and Redvale. Magnificent red rock country, giant cottonwoods and the lazy Dolores River escorted us home. At dusk, in early darkness, just miles from the hacienda, the wind went wild. Rain pelted the windshield, bits and pieces of leaves and broken tumbleweeds came blasting through space. It was crazy, like witches on broomsticks and spirits in the night. The day before equinox, I could feel the change. And I know you can too.
It’s now autumn, the season of inner light. The time to pay attention to what’s going on inside. A time to listen to the body and nurture the soul. Watch the changing colors and horizons; take note of the rising and setting sun. A time to feel your heart. And remember, like the weather, that no feeling is final. Just keep going. Day by day, month-by-month, year-to-year, season to season. Blessings and peace…
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Once again, the waning Moon provides us with dark nights and starry skies, the perfect garden for planting seeds of intention and desire. And this week, take note of your wishes. Are you focusing on personal, selfish wants and needs or actually thinking and hoping for others? The Libra sun time is all about relationship. Practice giving and forgiving from the heart.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Autumn awards the Bull with the fortuitous opportunity to make yourself and your world a significantly better place, but it takes practice. Establishing daily schedules and routines, organizing messes, cleaning up your home and immediate environment, as well as taking a good look at personal health and hygiene are ways to do it. Good luck, do the work!
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Autumn and the Libra zodiac month harmonize with the intellectual, comical, communicative style of the Twins. It is uplifting, inspirational and even romantic. Surrender to your heartstrings and listen to the music of your soul. Somewhere deep inside, you will hear the sounds of silence and the mystical songs of spirit. Find the time to do it. Feel the magic.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Late September and early October arrive with mystery and magic as autumn golds paint the land with light. Feel the movement of soul and ascension of spirit as you connect with the deepest sense of place. Happy environments and beautiful surroundings greatly enhance your days. Self-care and self-nurturing are essential to good health. Do your best.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) You may feel deeply domestic or concerned about issues on the home front as Mercury, Venus and Saturn hold court in your solar 4th house of personal security and environment. Take a good look at behavior patterns, default positions and childhood programming. Discuss your thoughts with those you trust. Take a short trip, explore your neighborhood.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) As autumn begins, Virgins continue to work in literal and metaphorical gardens. We reap what we sow. The equation of action and consequence is never more poignant that it is today. You can see exactly how your thoughts, words and deed paint the canvas of your life. Thus said, embrace the moment, do the next right thing, Enjoy the masterpiece.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Congratulations on another revolution around the Sun. It’s time to celebrate life. Take a deep breath and look around you. We often forget that life is a miracle and we are part of it. What are the chances of birth? By truly embracing the moment and living in the now, you can feel the movement of the stars and hear the music of the spheres. Enjoy the concert.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) With Mercury, Venus and Saturn now transiting Scorpio, you may be feeling rather light and bright and shining, shining, shining. And yet, there is a strong, serious aspect to your perception of yourself and your life. The process of sorting, discarding, pruning and ending continues. It feels good to get rid of what is no longer useful or vital. Good work!
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) The Libra zodiac month is one of social interaction and exchange for the Archer. Seek out friends, groups and fellowships that support your hopes and dreams. Camaraderie is a theme now and there are many people, places and things in this world that encourage and enhance positive, progressive actions and ideas. Connect with these entities and ride the tide.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Career concerns, personal and professional goals take center stage as the Sun enters your solar 10th house of achievement. You may find great pleasure in work and accomplishment this month as the cosmos support intellectual and creative efforts. Look for muses, seek out camaraderie. Others are willing to help and assist you. Ask you shall receive.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) A rather light and lovely energy uplifts and encourages accomplishment this week and month. Planets align to support and guide you toward the manifestation of your dreams. The challenge lies in the journey. Taking the high road is always the best strategy, but even that route has obstacles and dilemmas. The good news is that you can see the big picture.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) A good dose of water sign planets always feels good for aquarium loving fish, and this week you’re in luck as Mercury, Venus and Saturn in Scorpio ignite inspiration and uplift your spirit. It’s amazing how thoughts manifest destiny. Pay attention to internal dialogues, repetitive thought patterns and default positions and behaviors. Travel is a great way to see the forest for the trees. Get out and explore your world.

Visible Planets: Morning: Mars, Jupiter Evening: Mercury, Venus, Saturn
The Harvest Moon and autumn equinox – two of my favorite celestial events of the year. And in 2013, both take place within days of each other. Wow!
I have been feeling the intensity of the cosmos lately. Last night I had wild dreams. One of my best friends - Miss Mona – has difficulty sleeping when the Moon grows full. Right now, she’s probably tossing and turning in her bed down in Baja, counting Mexican sheep.
Yesterday I rode to the West End with another comadre and we discussed the energies of these wild, crazy times – the wars and shams of political power and personalities, computer-generated virtual realities, the hustle-bustle busy-ness of the ethers and the metaphorical taxes we pay on the privilege to be here on Earth, right here, right now, living in the luxurious lands of America. Amidst the actual and virtual realities we both agreed that we are incredibly, magically, mysteriously blessed. She said, “Look where we live. The magnificent clouds, the brilliant skies. And, how about all the rainbows we’ve had lately?”
Yes, we are blessed. And, this week, we shall count our blessings. The season of summer is ending. The season of harvest is here. And the metaphysically rich season of autumn arrives on Sept. 22nd @ 2:44 pm MDT, when the Sun enters the tropical zodiac sign Libra. The hours of dark and light are equal on this day, the Sun rises and sets directly east and west. It is a day of equilibrium, a day to take pause, a day to look for the crack between the worlds. Good luck and may the blessings, beauty and bounty of harvest fill your heart with gratitude and your life with grace.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Both the Harvest Moon and autumn equinox take place this week, marking the days ahead as some of the most poignant and powerful of the year. Situations, which have been bubbling for months, come to a head; the fruit has ripened on the vine. Humility, self-responsibility and deep compassion are allies now. Look within, cultivate virtue and do your best.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Equilibrium is a word that describes the energy of an equinox. Day and night are equal, the Sun and Moon rise and set directly east and west. This year, however, the test in is the balance. Climate change, political upheaval, personal challenge and relationship restructure can feel like a recipe for instability. Calm the engines and cultivate inner peace. No feeling is final.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) The full Harvest Moon brings issues of personal and professional life to a head. You may be feeling overtaxed, overworked and overwhelmed by all you have to do. Somehow you have gotten yourself deeply involved and committed to projects involving others when you already have too many irons in the fire. Breathe deep and seek help in spirit. The angels are waiting.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) A Venus/Saturn conjunction in seductive Scorpio – your solar 5th house of love and creativity - opens your heart to the deep mystery and beauty of life. The magnificent potential of our short time here on Earth is phenomenal. Tap into all you are, align with the infinite possibilities of the universe and ride the cosmic waves of happy destiny. Keep the faith.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) A planetary square from sweet Venus and serious Saturn in Scorpio adjusts perspectives and combines affection with caution in matters of the love and money. Take a good look at your personal part in both romantic and business relationships. If you feel resentment, jealousy or pain, do what you can to change the things you can – you!
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) The readiness to let go of old patterns and personally fabricated limitations peaks as full Moon energy amplifies a Venus, Saturn, North Node conjunction in persuasive Scorpio. Several years of process regarding soul and psyche are coming to fruition. You feel and see the transformational changes in and all around you. Trust, let go and let God.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) This year, harvest moonlight illuminates matters of soul and spirit, the relationship between dark and light, and your personal part in maintaining the physical, emotional, psychological balance that manifests inner peace. Combine realism with affection when it comes to progress. We learn everything by practice. Cultivate ritual, ceremony and prayer.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) The autumnal equinox signals a time of growing darkness and inner development. As days shorten, we instinctively go inward. Spirits rise and dance in the illuminating rays of a full Harvest Moon. Voluptuous Venus and Master Teacher Saturn show you the way to a life of rewarding relationships and successful careers. Commitment, sweet affection and patience are allies.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) The energetic gateway to one of the year’s two equinoctial points opens this week as autumn equinox follows on the heels of the full Harvest Moon. Day and night, darkness and light, spirit and matter – polarities and relationships take center stage. This week initiates a time of internal process and metamorphosis. Tap into the cosmos. Dance in the moonlight.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) The mutual reception of Saturn and Pluto in Scorpio and Capricorn intensifies as these two heavyweights form the third of three sextiles following the fruition of the full Harvest Moon. This translates as a touchstone for soul and psyche. Go deep, feel feelings, ride the wave of metamorphic transformation. Love and compassion are keys. Be sweet.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) September 22nd marks the second equinox of 2013 and stands as a door to transformative change. By taking full responsibility for the condition of your life and relationships, you have embraced your personal power and manifested personal freedom. Amidst the chaos and ridiculous political charades, you walk in beauty. Congratulations, your time is now.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) Open the door on a week of great metaphysical opportunity and potential. The full Harvest Moon in Virgo/Pisces, several planetary conjunctions and sextiles, followed by autumn equinox, combine in a dance of personal illumination and ascension. Take the high road on your journey through the stars. The perspective is better and the air is clean.

Watching the Seasons, In Awe of a Rainbow...
As we roll around the wheel, revolve around the Sun, we experience the ups and downs, starts and stops of life. The Mother Earth is a magnificently beautiful, abundantly generous provider and sustainer of that life. She gives us everything we need to live and survive. The tricky part is our part – how we wash our faces, make our beds, weed our gardens. Choices in life are huge. We create our days and manifest our destiny by the choices we make, minute to minute, hour to hour, year to year.
Looking back on my life, I see rainbows of choice. Big and small, easy or difficult, fast or slow, the colors fan out before me. Some have sealed my fate, others simply tinted it with possibility.
Today I live in a remote, southwestern corner of Colorado, the state of my birth. It’s stunning and awesome, nature is up front and personal. Eagles, hawks, bears, badgers, cougars, ravens and coyotes interface with cattle, sheep, horses, goats, chickens, pigs and humans. Sometimes I feel like I’m living in the past - cedar posts and barbed wire fences, blazing western sunsets and cowboys in the saddle, rodeos and wild sunflowers dancing in the breeze. Seasons are distinct, and summer is ending.
This week I am filled with the emotion of another changing season. Autumn is fast approaching, and it’s been raining now for days. This evening, around half-past six, the setting sun burst out behind lavender clouds and bathed the mesa in golden light. To the east, a blue-grey sheet of rain hid the Telluride mountains and the lands beyond like a thick velvet curtain hides actors and sets on a stage.
Painted on the curtain was one of the most vibrant, brilliant rainbows I had ever seen. Arcing above verdant green fields and pinon juniper forests, it reminded me of all that I have loved and lost. All that I have lived; my choices, my hopes and dreams. As the Buddha said, life is a series of agreeable and disagreeable experiences. I am a droplet of water in the Mother Ocean, a grain of sand upon a million sandy beaches, a woman living in a remote corner of southwestern Colorado, watching the seasons, in awe of a rainbow.
Blessings and peace. May we walk in beauty, make good choices and embrace our destiny...
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19)Amidst chaos and confusion, expectation and disappointment, you must remember and respect the ongoing Uranus/Pluto square in Aries/Capricorn. Then throw in Jupiter in Cancer. All this translates as a mumbo-jumbo mix of ups and downs, personal upsets and new starts, confrontations with authority and ultimate growth. Make positive changes and go with the flow.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) As you wind your way toward the Virgo/Pisces Full Harvest Moon of Sept. 19th, practice the arts of humility, compassion, acceptance and discernment. The long-in-orb Uranus/Pluto square continues to upset your applecart of inner peace, forcing confrontations of spirit and belief. Stay the course, continue the journey. Evolution happens.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Each day delivers a new beginning. Every evening the Sun sets upon the new day. Checklists and daily inventories help keep you organized, responsible and productive. Make and take them. As the merry-go-round continues, practice the art of gratitude. Good things come to those who focus on realistic, practical solutions, do the work and then let go of your attachment to the outcome.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) Giant planet Jupiter in Cancer continues as a cheerleader, good luck charm and guide through the multi-faceted forest of old patterns, new opportunities and shimmering horizons. While it’s easy to get caught up in frustration and what’s wrong with this picture, wise ones practice the art of present moment living and breathing. Be here now. Do your best.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) For many, these times are unbelievably difficult. Powerful, transformational cardinal squares pull rugs out from underneath us, force confrontation and demand change. In a holographic Universe, everything is a reflection of everything else, and a river runs through it. Stay in the current, relax and go with the flow.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Candles are lit and cakes are cut as the Virgo zodiac month marches on. Meanwhile, the cosmos resonate with eternal themes of chaos and creation. Getting in synch with the Universe is easier than it sounds. It’s all about relaxation, acceptance and present-moment awareness.. Recognize the power of choice and be the change you want the world to be.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) With autumn knocking at the door and an upcoming Harvest Moon around the corner, it’s time to take stock of what’s in the pantry and who’s in the house. You can feel seasonal changes deep within your heart and soul, stirring up long-forgotten memories and strong emotions of love and sorrow. Breathe, relax and accept. It is what it is.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Voluptuous Venus entered Scorpio on Sept. 10th and will remain there until Oct. 7th. And with serious Saturn already a relatively long-term tenant there, you can expect to see the hard-core structural changes and endings you have made in your life begin to feel better and bear fruit. Maintain gratitude as an attitude and focus on basic goodness.
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) Planets in mutable signs and cardinal signs show up in a competitive square dance of endings, beginnings, awakenings and change. Emotions run deep as issues of freedom and independence interact with themes of forgiveness and acceptance. The blue road of spirit is the only way through the forest. Take the high road and follow the light.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Virgo energy favors Capricorn practicality and ambition. Pisces encourages compassion. Cardinal sign squares force facing issues you might otherwise attempt to forget or ignore. Scorpio wants you to restructure and follow your dreams. Surrounding yourself with people and places that inspire you helps tremendously. Stay on the path.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) A rather disjointed, here and there, scattered feeling of being over-burdened and overwhelmed dances with the reality of reward and harvest as summer wanes and autumn approaches. You understand the power of responsibility and are willing to take on as much as you can. Remember that balance is your golden key to success. Be cool.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20) These days are full of one-to-one interacting and doing, sharing and pairing. Each year, as summer ends and autumn begins, you experience a period of process and evaluation regarding relationship. With whom do you live, love and play? How do you show up for others? What is your part? We teach people how to treat us. Give what you want to receive.
