Holiday Fortune and Fate, Feasts and Festivities
Here in America, Thanksgiving marks the traditional initiation of the holiday season. Of course, today we know the holidays really begin with Halloween. And so it is. Harvest festivals and celebrations of gratitude go hand in hand. Whether we are honoring the Mother Earth in all her seasonal beauty and bounty or the magical, mysterious realms of spirit, we as humans know our time here on Earth is short.
Life must be experienced and embraced, come what may. And, thus, we celebrate our fate and fortune with the feasts and festivities of seasonal holidays, live life to the fullest and seize the day, carpe diem.
Moving from the magnificent blossoms of summer to the autumn fruits of our labor, we now find ourselves on the shimmering, glimmering road to Christmas. Holiday lights illuminate our path, buildings and walkways glitter and glow, Noel nights offer handmade crafts, sleigh bells ring, snow glistens and presents are given and received.
And Santa pops up everywhere. Yes. Jolly old Saint Nick has become a mascot for the “giving” season, following the Thanksgiving turkey, of course! (The turkey is also the Native American animal of the “give away” or potlatch, a ceremonial giving away of one’s personal possessions to the tribe). With an outrageously generous spirit, Santa Claus-Saint Nicolas manufactures, gives away and hand delivers presents to every child on the planet. With his big bag of toys and wild, adventurous soul, St. Nick drives a flying sleigh pulled by reindeer all around and over the world, no matter what the weather. His jolly laugh, twinkling blue eyes and rotund figure, he’s a fitting icon for the happy enthusiasm, philanthropic generosity, courageous will and big-hearted nature of the Sagittarius spirit.
Happy Holidays and may your days and nights be filled with jolly laughs, fun adventures, good vibrations and plenty of giving and receiving. Blessings and peace, love, joy and lots of Ho, ho, ho!
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Pesky Uranus just won’t give up when it comes to making life interesting. Plenty of ups and downs, twists and turns, tests, trials and tribulations. But there is also amazing grace for those willing to face personal challenges with strength, integrity and self-honesty. This is a powerful, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to truly awaken and break through self-defeating patterns of darkness and denial. Step into the light.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The last week of sweet Venus in Libra encourages plenty of work and service regarding others. You may find yourself doing just about everything and anything required when it comes to getting things done. Good news is that you are actually happy to do it. For some strange reason you now understand, and can enjoy, the benefits of giving without expectation. Well, almost. Equations always come into balance, eventually!
Gemini (May 20-June 20) With the Sun in happy-go-lucky Sagittarius, magnanimous Jupiter in service-oriented Virgo and ruler Venus in love and peace Libra, the stars align for a week of heartfelt joy and gratitude. The goodness of helping others and the magic of laughter illuminate a shining path of wellness and grace in a world of apparent chaos and insanity. This is all about personal strength and fortitude. Keep the faith, carry the light.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) You may find yourself getting a little crabby or impatient as planets align in a week of readjustment and regeneration. The give-away energy of Sagittarius does not always work well with close to home, heart and hearth Cancer. You are a collector, a keeper. Letting go does not come naturally. So now it’s time to give without expectation and trust the Universe. Create more space, yes, empty space!
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) With so many things to do and people to see, you are busy and bustling. Of course, you love the holiday hustle, the lure of shopping and the glimmer of giving and receiving. But this year, Jupiter in Virgo favors patience and discretion, a slower pace when it comes to spending and a more practical approach to gifting. Take your time. Also beware of romantic yearning as a theme. Go ahead, enjoy the dream.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Neptune in dreamy Pisces squares serious Saturn in over-the-top Sagittarius on Thanksgiving Day, leading the way for a week of fantasy-reality regarding relationships, family, home life and personal self. This is a transit that remains in orb through autumn 2016. Surrender and compassion are themes in the dissolution of structures and forms that no longer serve a higher purpose or sustain growth. Good luck!
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) The Sagittarius month moves you from self-absorbed purpose and focus to a place of higher purpose and world-view vision. You see the up-close-and-personal forest for the trees as well as a glistening horizon on the road of future possibilities. The golden key here is balance. Once again, you are called to do what comes naturally. Peace, patience, practice and perseverance will get you everywhere you want to go.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) As velvet Venus moves through the last degrees of neighboring Libra and prepares to enter Scorpio, take a personal inventory of peace. Inner and outer. Is there anyone or anything you want or need to make peace with? Dec. 4th marks the start of a 25-day period of grace, a time when stars align for favor in love and joyful camaraderie. Be sweet and kind to others as you find, feel and follow your heart.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Birthdays continue as candles are lit and cakes are cut. Enjoy celebrations of life and make sure you don’t dis the help! Others find you attractive, fun and full of fabulous ideas, but what about that dark side? Once and forever a warrior of spirit, it’s easy to get grumpy and disillusioned by the reality of life here on planet Earth. And yet, it’s a miracle. Embrace the mystery and live the magic. If not you, then who? You’ve got a job to do!
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Traveling a road less traveled, accepting responsibility when and where others cannot and showing up dressed and ready to go are just a few of the assets you bring to the proverbial table of Life. And with ruler Saturn in high-minded Sagittarius moving into square aspect with dreamy Neptune in Pisces, the stars align for a year of structured vision and dream manifestation. Use your imagination!
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Thanksgiving week is a time when you love getting together with friends, family and people sharing goals and common interests. Be sure to get out and about a bit, even if you have to leave a cozy, comfy casa in the process. Others have uplifting ideas and exciting aspirations to share and discuss. Inspiration is a mystical, magical, magnetic event and the ethers are ripe for harvest. Onward Cosmic Traveler!
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) The first of three exact squares of Saturn in Sag to Neptune in Pisces takes place on Thanksgiving Day and heralds a year of opportunity and challenge regarding personal creativity and dream manifestation. The function is one of ego dissolution and spiritual restructure, a prolonged period of self vs. non-self, a time to simultaneously embrace mortality, dance with the angels and, always and forever, give thanks.

Thanksgivng Grace & Gratitude
Once upon a time, in America, Thanksgiving marked the beginning of the holiday season. Of course, that was long, long ago. Today, ghosts and goblins, witches and pumpkins, devils and angels, broomsticks and candlesticks put an end to summer and push us into a virtual land of Christmas commercials and TV ads. Images of a dashing, jolly Santa with a barn full of red and white Mercedes, Corona beaches with coco palms and Christmas lights, Black Fridays and everyone thinking about money, shopping and buying.
But, thankfully, we still have Thanksgiving in the middle, between Halloween and Christmas. It’s a time to take a deep breath and take note of where we are, where we’ve been and where we’re heading – inevitably toward Christmas and then, another New Year. But for now, we are here. Here on Earth, sharing the beauty and bounty, feeling gratitude and – if we are truly grateful – the miracle of grace.
Here's to a happy, healthy, joyous Thanksgiving. Peace, love and joy…
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) As the Sun moves from soul-centered Scorpio into spiritually oriented Sagittarius, you may notice a major shift from doubt and darkness to hope and optimism. You know pain and suffering are part of life, and that healing takes time. Rainbows follow rain and happiness is an inside job, serviced by the outside world. Love and truth unite Heaven and Earth; give and receive them both. Happy Thanksgiving!
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The week before Thanksgiving is one full of work and service for the Bull. Partners may require more attention and care, request your presence or want to talk about something important. Do your best to be there for them, just make sure you aren’t over-burdened and suffering due to their problems. If you are feeling trapped, take a break. Freedom is a miracle cure for resentment.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) The Sun enters your solar 7th house of longterm relationships this week and remains there for several. This heralds a month of more attention to and concern with others, a time when you may discover just how important you are to the world. Balance and equanimity are trustworthy companions on the journey. Be open-hearted, compassionate and kind. Focus on inner truth and follow its wisdom.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) The Scorpio New Moon cycle comes to fruition on Nov. 25th in the Gemini-Sagittarius polarity and illuminates the power of faith in face of fear. Negative thinking breeds resentment and doubt while positive thoughts generate gratitude and grace. It’s the perfect time to test the waters and experience the results. Let others wallow in the mud while you are free to take the high road. Follow the light.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) A fire and air Sagittarius-Gemini full Moon excites the spirit and ignites the heart. Welcome to a month of increasing optimism, good luck and love. With both sweet Venus and passionate Mars in Libra, you may find yourself thinking about and actually pursuing romantic partners, calling upon former lovers or simply infusing existing relationships with good feelings and vibrations. Share wealth, enjoy joy.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Self-reliance and self-nurturing continue as themes as you remain simultaneously active and happy in partnership. Sharing joint responsibilities and taking care of mutual commitments brings great satisfaction and pleasure. It’s a great time to reap the rewards of past efforts and sacrifice. Others see your talents and value. Work gets easier as you become more familiar with routines and schedules. Stick to the program.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) The Gemini-Sagittarius full Moon of Nov. 25th shines light on the connections between thoughts and realities, beliefs, dreams and life. Our physical, material world is based on perception, what we think it is, it is. This month, consider the phenomenal world of spirit, as well as the camaraderie between mortals and the divine. Natural law rules the Universe. Expand consciousness, explore and discover.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) The Sun enters Sagittarius on Nov. 22nd and brings your annual happy birthday month to a close. Congratulations on another turn upon the wheel, you have made it with flying colors. Now it’s time to go forth and get serious about the choices lying before you. Personal truth, personal values and intuition are wise and powerful guides on the road of life. It is said often, but rarely understood: follow your heart.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Your happy birthday month begins this week, congratulations on another revolution around the Sun! Thinking, talking and travel are major themes as mental Mercury joins the Sun and Saturn in your sign. Others may be surprised by your more serious, responsible and focused attitude and behavior. Smile and be happy, it’s a good fit. Balance the equations of manifestation and stay on the path of love and light.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Ruler Saturn makes it first of three exact squares to Neptune on Thanksgiving, challenging a duel of essence and ego, self-importance and humility. This is a summons to spiritual maturity, a time to let go of martyrdom and victim mentalities, blame and guilt. Consider if and how you may have been giving away your power, letting others control you through anger or manipulation. Live free; let go, let God.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) You may feel tested this week by others when it comes to personal agendas and focus. It’s a challenge to go with the flow and still get the job done, but if anyone can do it, you can! It’s especially important to stay centered, present and trust your intuition as a worthy guide through the stormy seas of doubt and frustration. Full Moon energy favors optimistic attitudes and spiritual generosity. Just do your best!
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) As the Sun enters Sagittarius and your solar 10th house of achievement, you may find your thoughts turning toward plans and projects of accomplishment. There is no doubt you have true artistic and creative talent, and now you are feeling a deep and burning desire to create and manifest. Mercury and Saturn square Neptune in Pisces is pushing you toward greatness. Count blessings and give thanks!

The Mystical Power & Calling of Heart and Soul
As the Wheel of the Year turns in its shape-shifting seasons and changing cycles, we also transform. Magnificent autumn days are transcendent, we linger in the beauty of shimmering golden aspen or feel the awesome grandeur of fresh snow and red oak blazing in backlit morning sunshine crossing the Dallas Divide. Frigid air and biting winds push us inside; we kindle fires and feel deep gratitude for warmth and shelter as snow rages outside. When it’s pouring rain and clouds blanket the mountains and valleys, it feels like it will always be so. In periods of scorching drought, we pray for rain, wondering if it will ever come.
All life on planet Earth responds to weather and its enigmatic patterns. As seasons change, we change. As days grow colder and nights grow longer, we seek the comfort of warm hearts, hands and homes. Our connection to others deepens as we feel Old Man Winter fast approaching.
The Scorpio zodiac month and lunar cycle encourage quiet evenings at home, cozy couches and seductive pleasures. It’s a time to share our sacred space – physically, emotionally and spiritually – with people we love and trust. Or cuddle up with a good book or movie and popcorn solo, connect with spirit and find comfort and solace in peaceful silence.
This time of year takes us inward. As landscapes morph from green to gold and autumn leaves whirl and dance, spirits shift. We feel the mystical calling and transformational power of heart and soul. It’s time to go deep. Discover buried treasure. Be intimate. Share love. And find inner peace. Enjoy the season.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Love planet Venus and ‘I want’ Mars in Libra, your solar 7th house of relationships, reminds you to use honey instead of vinegar when it comes to others. Let them tell you what they want, and you’ll be surprised how close it is to what you want. A Veterans Day Scorpio New Moon reveals where you are shedding old skin in order to grow healthier and happier. Death and rebirth are themes. Embrace new life.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) Mental Mercury joins force with the Sun and Moon in Scorpio this week, messaging you to take a good look at what you’re thinking and saying. Thoughts generate emotions and emotions produce the physical biochemistry that heals or hurts us. In the end, we are both doctor and pharmacy. Words also have tremendous power now in relation to others. Good medicine or bad, it’s up to you.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) As Venus and Mars enter Libra, your solar 5th house of creativity, you may feel more creative and motivated to create than you have in months. The Scorpio New Moon also favors personal self-improvement and fuels desires to clean, organize and discard what is no longer useful. This is a precious time of self-fueled productivity that rewards you with the pleasure of accomplishment. Be sweet and enjoy the joy.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) The Scorpio New Moon begins a lunar month of sweet love and happy hearts for Moonchildren. Career changes and unusual professional circumstances continue, but it’s all-good. You may find yourself in a position of authority or guidance regarding family members or social situations. Do the best you can as others will benefit greatly from your experience, strength and hope. Homelife is the good life now.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) It’s time to think with your heart and trust your inner knowing. The Scorpio zodiac month and fresh New Moon favor quiet evenings at home with people you love and enjoy being with. And if you find yourself alone, take advantage of the peace and quiet. Our increasingly technological world, with all its beeps and bounce, can make you crazy. Don’t lose touch with the deep well of goodness inside or the spirit of heart.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Scorpio energy is all about communication for the Virgin. If you love the ones you’re with, let them know. Also express the way you feel, go deep. Venus and Mars now in peace-loving Libra favor balance and equality, sharing and pairing. Words are powerful tools and can be used to hurt or heal. Practice good medicine and don’t preach or spread poison. You will never regret doing the kind thing.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) A Veterans Day New Moon in seductive Scorpio favors self-sufficient lifestyles and resourceful actions. Like my Grandfather used to say, “If you need something, just look around and you’ll find it.” Words of wisdom. Subliminal programing due to media exposure wants us to think we need to go out and buy something to be happy. Truth is, happiness is an inside job. Utilize natural talents and abilities in your quest.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Candles are lit and cakes are cut as you celebrate another revolution around the Sun. Make sure you make your day of birth special and enjoyable, do what you want to do rather than succumbing to others wishes. Otherwise, you may end up feeling resentment or anger. This is called enlightened selfishness, a precious gift we can give to ourselves. Also take note of internal dialogs. All month. It’s the golden key to happiness.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) As the Scorpio zodiac month evolves, pay close attention to what you are telling yourself and others. Are you happy and healthy, positive and pro-active? Are you genuine and true to others? Or are you hiding behind a tough façade, withholding information, facts, emotions or feelings? Whatever the manifestation, accept it all with love and compassion. Cultivate inner peace and practice self-honesty.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) The Scorpio lunar month begins on Veterans Day and gives birth to heightened sensitivity and more intensity regarding your personal hopes and dreams. This is a time of potential inspiration for you, a time when you are well advised to surround yourself with people you respect and admire, seek out support or common interest groups and, in general, follow your heart.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) The Scorpio zodiac and lunar months combine this week in a potent potion of work and accomplishment. You may see a long-worked-for goal or project coming to fruition or see a shining light at the end of the tunnel. Fixed signs hold the world together, and you are blessed with the tenacity and temperament to get the job done. Count your blessings, express gratitude and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) A generous heart and an open mind are allies in your week as emotional, deep-feeling Scorpio rules the ethers with its classically strong hand and iron fist. You are being directed toward the spiritual path of epiphany and enlightenment, joy and acceptance, but you may find yourself traveling a rocky road of potholes and pitfalls. Schooled in experience, compassion fuels the journey. Follow the rainbow.

2015's Last Cross-Quarter Day and Week: Spirits In & Out
Early November brings us the fourth and last cross-quarter day and week of the year. It is here the Earth reaches the halfway point between autumn equinox and winter solstice in its annual orbit around the Sun. Gravitational pulls intensify as electromagnetic forces increase. All organic matter on the planet responds and reacts to these forces; and we humans are no exception.
October 31st – Halloween – folds into November 1st – All Souls Day – and is followed by el Dia de Los Muertos – the Day of the Dead – on November 2nd. These festivals are celebrations of life, death and spirit, a time to honor the Mother Earth and all life upon this magnificent planet in their seasonal cycles of birth, growth, death and rebirth.
The early November festival holidays herald the most metaphysically potent time of our yearly orbit around the Sun. The veil between the visible and invisible worlds is lifted, we can more easily access the mysterious realms of spirit and swim in the waters of the mystical and divine. The days on either side of November 7th [the actual cross-quarter day] – from November 3rd to 11th - are days when to take notice of what you see, feel, sense and intuit. Also take note of what you experience, whom you encounter, what you think about those encounters and how you react to what comes your way. Pay attention to your internal dialogs, as they are the golden key to your health and wellness quotient, as well as your present and future realities.
Celtic peoples marked this time of year as the end of summer and the beginning of winter; it was one of their most important ritual holidays. They lit fires, conducted harvest feasts, dressed like animals and spirits, danced to drums and attempted to make contact with the spirit guides, wandering souls and the world of the dead. Here today, in the early 21st Century, ceremonial bonfires are few and far between, but there are many ritual dances, costumes and spiritually fueled experiences.
And this is truly a magical time of year. Fallen leaves dance with spirits in whirling, golden spirals. High country snows cap the slate blue mountain peaks with white. Bright yellow-orange cottonwoods stand out against brilliant blue Colorado skies and the season's first bald eagles hunt golden-blonde hayfields for prey.
The drooping silhouettes of my summer companions haunt the gardens and greenhouses. Ripe tomatoes, garlic and basil shape-shift into bubbling, red-orange sauces and salsas. Red, green, purple and yellow peppers roast and blister, destined for chiles rellenos and all other Mexican cuisine. I count my blessings and honor the spirits before me. So many people have lived and died, left their mark and message. Life is a long line of precedence; mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and friends. Neices and nephews, children...all those who have come and gone, helped and hurt me, loved and left me, now dancing in the worlds beyond.
I love this season because it is the time of looking inward and reaching outward, reaching out to the mysterious possibilities of spirit. In darkness, we see light.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Early November favors themes of wellness, service and self-improvement as Jupiter – the lord of great good fortune – and male and female planets Mars and Venus dance together in virginal Virgo. Mind your p’s and q’s, make hygiene and health top priorities and prune the bush where self-indulgence is concerned. Goodness is the name of the game now. You will never regret doing what’s good for you and others.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) Ruler Venus enters diplomatic Libra on Nov. 8th and remains there until early December. This translates as several weeks of pleasant improvement, peace and balance in relationships. Others are more accommodating and sweet, as long as you are willing to meet them halfway. It’s a great week and upcoming month for sharing and pairing. Keep your heart and arms open to whatever comes your way.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) Darkness reigns as sunset now takes place just past 5:00 pm. Blue-black night skies and a waning Moon offer a dazzling canopy of starlight for those willing to brave the chilling evening cold. Sweet Venus moves into lucky-in-love Libra and bestows gifts of heartfelt gratitude and grace. This is an excellent time for deep inner work regarding themes of intimacy, secrets and the psyche. Share your heart and hearth.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) The Scorpio zodiac month weaves its mysterious web around heart and soul as thoughts turn to love and intimate sharing. You find superficial, shallow and boring people a waste of time and energy. The deep, dark and mysterious attracts you now. Explore books and seek out conversations with those psychically gifted or experienced in fields you find stimulating and inspirational. Keep inner fires burnings.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Home and hearth remain center stage as family relationships; domestic stability and personal security issues top your list of attention and priority. Evaluate parent-child roles and responsibilities and determine how you might improve the quality of your interactions. Communication remains a powerful theme and perfect tool now. Refrain from criticism or blame and focus on solutions rather than problems.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Get out your spiritual toolbox and examine your tools. What needs sharpening, cleaning or replacing? Mental Mercury in Scorpio encourages the “beginners mind” where personal behaviors and habits are concerned. Take a look at your life and performance from a higher perspective. Be kind and gentle, focus on acceptance and forgiveness as you carve out a fresh, joyful path to spiritual health and wellness.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Now that thinking, talking Mercury has entered deep-thoughts Scorpio, you may find yourself holding your tongue and listening to others rather than offering advice. This is wisdom. External ideas and experiences are mirrors of individual conditioning and realities, helping us discover what lies within. A calm, compassionate heart and safe place to fall is a magical, healing gift. Love the magic.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) The Sun and Mercury in Scorpio award you with a quick wit and strong spirit this week. You may find yourself more talkative or thoughtful now, willing to engage in conversations with people you don’t know or explore places you have never been. Curiosity is the name of the game and playing it takes you in the directions you need to go. As sweet Venus enters Libra, beautiful angels are found in quiet, peaceful spaces.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) As the blue-black canopy of deep space sparkles with starlight, the Archer looks within. Angels and spirits beckon you to places and spaces of soul memory and past-life déjà vu. You may feel more reclusive than usual or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of solitude. A fresh lunar cycle in your 12th house of the dreams and imagination amplifies this theme. Embrace the grace of silence and enjoy its magic.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) The approaching New Moon and fresh lunar month takes place in your solar 11th house of aspirations, hopes and dreams. What do you aspire to do? What inspires creativity and joy of life? Who do you admire and respect? What about appropriate role models, good friends and people with whom you have shared, common interests? This is an excellent week to seek inner wisdom in the light of truth.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Work and achievement continue as themes as mind-and-thought Mercury and the spirit-of-life Sun have you busy accomplishing goals and getting the job done here, there and everywhere. Good news is things are slowing down as you complete projects and lighten the workload. Nothing like finishing to make you feel good! Venus on the horizon promises relaxation and pleasure. For now, keep the ball rolling.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Travel, exploration and research are themes as the Sun and Mercury move through your solar 9th house of the higher mind, taking you to places and spaces you have never been. And with Mars in your solar 7th house of partners and Neptune in Pisces, you may feel like a reluctant mate on a ship going in directions you may not want to go. Surrender and relax rather than fight the tide. Everything happens for a reason.

Halloween Witches, Souls and Spirits Crossing in the Night...
Boo! It’s Halloween, when the veil between the worlds grows thin. Spirits have been arriving now for weeks, and tonight it’s time to play!
I love Halloween. The spontaneity, fun and frolic of this mid-autumn holiday is forever a delight. And everyone is game if they are willing to open their eyes, hearts and senses to the magic and mystery available at this potent, “potions” time of year. Metaphysical gateways open. The hallowed halls of souls and spirits romp and rollick. We can touch the ethereal and embrace the invisible.
Samhain [pronounced SAH-win or SOW-in] is a Gaelic {Irish, Scottish, Celtic} festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, or “darker half” of the year. Traditionally, Samhain is celebrated from sunset on October 31 to sunset on November 1. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals, all of which take place on or near one of the year’s four cross-quarter days, the four days halfway between spring or autumn equinox and summer or winter solstice.
Samhain is believed to have pagan origins and has been an important time of celebration since antiquity. Cattle and sheep were brought back down from high summer pastures and livestock were slaughtered for winter. Special bonfires were built and lit for their protective and cleansing powers, fire rituals were common and diverse.
Like the annual spring celebration of Beltane in early May, Samhain was seen as a “liminal” holiday, a time when spirits and fairies could more easily access and come into the three-dimensional earth plane. The souls of the dead were also thought to revisit their homes and loved ones. Feast tables were set with places for those who had passed on and invited and beckoned to attend via frolic, ritual and prayer. Offerings of food and drink were set out for souls crossing in the night.
In the 9th Century A.D. the Early Catholic Church shifted the date of All Saints Day to November 1, while November 2 later became All Souls Day. Today the fabulously colorful Mexican holiday celebration and honoring of death – la dia de los muertos (the Day of the Dead) – takes place as well on November 2nd. Wow!
So, here’s to all the traditions, festivities and gatherings – as well as the spirits and souls - that take place during this oh so very special time of year. Light your fire and set your table. Trick and treat, make calls to heaven and invite loved ones back into your life. The wild and magical mystery of the invisible and visible, the demonic and divine; the bridge between life and afterlife is here. Happy Halloween!
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) A sweet Cancer Moon on Halloween may find you sharing cookies, candy and trick-or-treats with family and loved ones, or simply enjoying the cozy comfort of your home sweet home. A rather emotional Moon-Pluto-Uranus square the next day may have you feeling insecure or uncertain about the future. Don’t worry or do anything disruptive. Take it easy and relax. Venus and Mars conjoin in Virgo on Monday. All is well.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The Scorpio zodiac month reiterates and refocuses a theme that has been the primary factor – perhaps the most influential factor – for the last two years: partners and mates. Whether or not you are married, in a committed relationship, divorced or single, relationships have been a major issue. This week, Mars and Venus join force in your solar 5th house of the heart. As usual, love conquers all.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) Venus and Mars embrace this week in your solar 4th house of the home and family, shining light upon domestic environments and the people with whom you share space and life. You may find yourself taking care of a parent, child or friend. Love, affection, health and nurturing are themes. Do the best you can when at work or in service. You are in a position to do great things, things others cannot.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Love planet Venus and fire-desire Mars come together in Virgo on la dia de los muertos – the Day of the Dead – promising you a fun-filled, rock-and-roll weekend with spirits of every shape and size. Halloween opens the door on three days of tricks and treats. Creativity, romance and laughter abound, tap into your heart and let the good times roll. Be wise when it comes to indulgence: too much candy will make you sick!
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) As the Sun moves into reclusive Scorpio you may feel great gratitude for a secure domestic life and comfortable home. When cold winds blow and darkness reigns, there is nothing like a crackling fire and cozy couch to make you feel safe and sound. That said, prepare for winter. Halloween and the days that follow put you in the drivers seat regarding love. Put on your most seductive smile and follow your heart.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Yes, life is busy and, at times, hectic. Opportunities for expansion and growth abound. You may feel as if you are riding a fast-moving train, but the good news is you are truly out of the doldrums and into the happy, cheerful world of accomplishment and favor. Smile, laugh and nurture gratitude. This week, great things come your way. Cultivate humility in the face of success. Enjoy the joy.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day present you with the perfect time to check in with soul and spirit. What lies hidden deep inside you? What have you buried or neglected? Are you in denial or delusion? Positive attitudes and actions are golden, powerful allies in a warp-speed world of multi-faceted potential and possibility. Illuminate inner chasms with spirit-light and discover long-lost treasure.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Your happy birthday month continues as candles are lit and cakes are cut. As you celebrate another revolution around the Sun, take some time to look within and without. Mercury now in Scorpio gives you plenty of food for thought, mental acuity is at a peak. Pick up a journal, record ideas and communicate desires. Friends and common interests fuel action and inspire creativity. Dream the dream, seize the day.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Witches, ghosts, fairies and spirits abound as the veil between the worlds grows thin. Chasms and caverns of mystery and magic abound. Whether you choose to dress up or walk in darkness as yourself, there is plenty of fun and frolic. You’re in the perfect place to explore alternate realities, past life karma and a variety of spooky realms. Contact guardian angels for guidance and protection. They are there to help.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) The waning Hunters Moon rises late, making Halloween extra dark and mysterious. Keep your eyes open for witches in the night and tricksters in the daylight. It’s a time for pranks and pranksters, a metaphysical weekend of shimmering ghosts and giggling goblins. If there is someone who now walks in the world of spirit that would like to contact, do so. Invisible forces abound. Light a candle, say a prayer and follow the light.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) You may find yourself caught up in management projects, professional activities and work responsibilities as Halloween spooks come knocking. Open the door and let them in, it’s time to have some fun. The Gaelic calendar marks this time of year as the end of harvest and beginning of winter. Light Samhain fires and contact spirits. Meanwhile, Mars and Venus deepen intimacy and evoke passion. Surrender to love.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Mystical Fish swim in the etheric waters of mystery and magic this week as Samhain fires burn and spirits walk between the worlds. Invisible realms beckon those willing to explore quantum physical possibilities and potential. Are you willing? Meanwhile, Venus and Mars couple up in Virgo, your solar 7th house of sharing and pairing, stimulating romance and awakening passion. Light the fire, enjoy the heat.

Scorpio Light & Darkness: The Only Thing to Fear is Fear Itself
Dark and light, illumination and darkness, yin and yang, male and female, love and hate, war and peace…
We live in a reality defined by polarity. We are constantly qualifying and quantifying what we see, hear and experience. Is it positive or negative, happy or sad? Our instincts for survival have evolved on sensation and experience, action and consequence. Human bodies and senses go around attempting to intuit danger and safety. Is this situation good or bad? Will this person help me or harm me?
Intuition is a wise advisor. The mind, in another realm, is clever and loves to play the trickster. How many times have you “talked yourself out of” listening to your intuition? Sometimes the mind is such a strong advocate that we don’t even consciously acknowledge our intuition – the way we feel, the sensations our body sends us, the fleeting thought that comes quickly and dissipates before it actually takes form – and rather let our thinking brain take over, weighing the pros and cons, making lists and then even asking others what they think or what to do.
Of course, that’s the way it is. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with research and development. After all, we can usually find what we need or want on the Internet. What?!!! Not true. We can find facts and opinions, information and videos, images, social media and virtual face-to-face conversations. But we cannot find intuition. Intuition lies within.
This week, as the Sun transitions from the aesthetically aware, mentally acute, intellectually astute air sign of Libra into the seductive, sensation-based, intuition-fueled water sign of Scorpio, take note. We are crossing the ethereal, cosmic bridge from the light and lovely land of beauty, cooperation, negotiation, analysis, balance and peace [Libra] to the intoxicating kingdom of darkness, mystery and magic, where power, desire, intensity, pain and ecstasy rule. It is here that feelings trump thoughts and the mind surrenders to sensation and emotions. It’s a great time to check in with your intuition and see if you are or are not in touch with it.
Also take note of the October 27th Full Hunters Moon in the Taurus-Scorpio polarity. This is the third of three Super Full Moons in a row so, once again, the Moon will be super-bright and super-close. And because of the Moon’s close proximity to Earth, gravitational pulls and electromagnetic forces are greatly amplified, affecting tides, tectonic plates and every other organic body and psyche on the planet. Angel or devil? Good or bad? War or peace?
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) The Sun enters Scorpio on Oct. 23rd and begins a lunar month of more depth and less façade. You are craving more authenticity and will no longer be satisfied with superficial, evasive people or relationships. The Oct. 27th Hunters Full Moon illuminates issues of darkness and denial, what lies hidden or buried. This is a perfect time for deep soul work, psychic therapy and spiritual cleansing.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The October Full Hunters Moon takes place in early degree Taurus this week, shining light on your most important and personal relationships. This is an excellent time to get in touch with people you have lost contact with or simply have been too busy to call or visit. And with so many planets transiting your solar 5th house of the heart, you are feeling loving and giving. So why not? Smile and count your blessings.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) The Scorpio zodiac month favors themes of work, service and self-improvement for the Twins. Spiritual practice and daily routines of cleanliness and hygiene are also favored. This is an excellent time to make and go through lists, organize messes and get to the bottom of piles that are hiding what you can no longer see. Of course, this is both literal and metaphorical. In general, take responsibility and stick to the program.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Scorpio is all about what lies hidden. Whether we are dealing with physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual realms, there is always darkness. And dark is as beautiful as light, although often more frightening. Why? Because we cannot see in darkness. And that’s the root of the issue: fear. Take a good look at what you are afraid of. Is it real or imagined? Past or future? Embrace the light of the present.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) You may be feeling competent and capable, willing to take responsibility for your life and relationships, strong of heart and spirit. And you have every right to. After all, you have worked hard and long to get to where you are today. Now, acts of kindness and attitudes of gratitude bring the deepest satisfaction and reward. You have reached a point in life that borders on enlightenment. No ego, just fact. Enjoy the light.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Welcome to one of the busiest years of your life. With so many open doors and multi-faceted opportunities, you may feel your head and heart spinning like a top. Congratulations! You have come so far, established excellent credibility and achieved much. And now, as you take the first steps into the next 12-year Jupiter life cycle, make sure you make and take time for spiritual regeneration and renewal.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Smoldering fires keep the home and heart warm; fuel relationships with love and remain calm in the face of fear. Depth and intimacy attract and intrigue you now as you crave the honest, authentic and real. Superficial people and relationships just don’t get it done. You would rather be alone and in the calm, quiet peace of your own company and sanctuary. Spirits are on the rise. Open to magic and mystery.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Congratulations on another revolution around the Sun! Your annual month of physical and spiritual rebirth and renewal has arrived. It’s time to celebrate life. And while you’re at it, why not take a good look at all the goodness in your life? Blessings, natural gifts, trusted people, family and friends. This is a perfect year to qualify hopes and dreams, goals and aspirations. Trust the Universe and follow your heart.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) The Scorpio zodiac month brings us the Full Hunter’s Moon and a week of increasing light in darkness. Demons, desires, denial and divinity are themes. The challenge here is one of courage and strength. Make friends with the spirit world. Face the bad ones and embrace the good ones. As a wise American President once told his countrymen and women: “The only thing to fear is fear itself.”
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) The October Full Hunters Moon follows a Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Virgo and a Moon-Uranus eclipse in Aries. This delivers a metaphysical window of opportunity for you to rise above doubt and fear, center yourself in goodness and truth, gather courage and take the high road of spiritual generosity and faith. Without darkness we could not know light. Focus on truth and positive outcomes.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) As the Moon eclipses Uranus two days prior to the Full Hunters Super Moon, pay attention to your urges and impulses. Following a Venus-Jupiter union in your solar 8th house of shared intimacy and joint finance, you may feel a sudden desire to partner up with someone or pursue a new and unusual relationship with someone significantly older or younger. A professional project comes to fruition. Good work!
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) You may find yourself wanting to be free from bondage of any sort in an actual or metaphysical sense this week. Relationships are fabulous however and you are most likely involved with people who already give you plenty of space and freedom. The good news is you are in an excellent position to understand what you need and want in the context of sharing and pairing. Cultivate a spiritual practice and stay positive.

Garlic, Basil & Tomatoes...Changing Weather & Moving Spirits
Here we are, mid-October. My garlic order arrived on Friday, the weather has changed and I feel pressure to plant. But what about the tomatoes still on the vine, the cucumbers, eggplant and peppers? Onions will be okay if it frosts, but everything else will suffer. Heat in our little visqueen greenhouse? And my basil. Time to bring it all inside…
Every year is different, and this one has blessed us with a super-sweet, extended frost-free window for ripening all those temperature vulnerable crops. The days have been gloriously warm and the nights, though cool, have been accommodating. But now, it’s time to make the move. Time to shift into overdrive and put the pedal to the metal.
Thus, my introduction this week is short. I love October and all its magic. Mutation, transformation, metamorphosis. I feel it, I embrace it. I can feel the spirits moving, as the veil between the worlds grows thin.
Oh yes, and thank goodness for the pumpkins. They’ll be fine outside, or inside, ‘til Halloween.
Blessings, peace and starlight. May your harvest be full and happy.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) With Mercury now direct in early degree Libra, you may feel as if important relationships are finally back on track and moving forward. Communication improves along with attitudes. Personally, however, you may have been thrown backwards in some way or another. Uranus retrograde in Aries returns you to repeating themes of patience and acceptance, forcing you to calm down, slow down and live each day as it comes. Hang in there.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The heavens are loaded with planets in Virgo and Libra right now, focusing energy on issues of health, service and relationship. Other people are playing major roles in your life these days, influencing decisions and more or less telling you what to do. Of course, the Bull is not easy to move and you may find yourself resisting when they push too hard. Of course, your heart knows what to do. Feel and follow your heart.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) With the Sun and ruler Mercury now direct in Libra, your solar 5th house of the heart, you may feel the magnificent beauty and bounty of life sparkling all around you. Blazing colors awaken spirit and beckon romance. Fun and fantasy tempt and entice you outside while home and family matters remain a priority. Balance work with play as you embrace the metaphysical mysteries of autumn. It’s all about magic.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Uranus retrograde in Aries may have you re-working career direction, responsibilities and rewards. Non-traditional occupations and unconventional professions are more attractive as you recognize the value of personal freedom. Changes are on the horizon but right now it’s best to stay the course and finish the job, as crazy or demanding as it may be. Busy, busy. Enjoy your home and family.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) With Venus, Mars and Jupiter so close in Virgo, your solar 2nd house of self-reliance, you find satisfaction, pleasure and reward in things and activities you can do yourself. While Leos love attention and companionship, today you understand how precious and important it is to live a life based on values that work for you rather than someone else. That said, respect others and focus on balance in relationships.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Motivated Mars and generous Jupiter conjoin in Virgo this week, opening doors and expanding opportunities. Love planet Venus lingers behind, promising great rewards to those who practice kindness, maintain healthy boundaries and keep the ball rolling when it comes to work, service and self-improvement. Make sure you don’t overdo or overwhelm yourself with duties and responsibilities. Rest and relax.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) As we move through the last week of Libra, take stock of where you are in life. Your birthday month is perennially a time to evaluate, consider and contemplate your happiness and wellness quotient, the quality of your commitments and whether or not you are involved in productive, creative work. As one who tends toward sharing and pairing, it’s important to put yourself first once in a while. That time is now.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Virgo loves Scorpio and with sweet Venus, masculine Mars and jovial Jupiter moving through your 11th house of hopes and wishes, get ready for a week of creative inspiration and romantic opportunity. Much of this comes in quiet places and sacred spaces, via moments of grace and acts of kindness. Honesty and authenticity are essential ingredients in the mix; avoid superficial people and artificial façades.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Love planet Venus in opposition to idealistic Neptune challenges you to examine the importance of family and career, come to terms with recurring wanderlust and determine whether or not you are sacrificing a good relationship for a beautiful dream. Take a sensible approach and utilize the creative, compassionate inspiration of this aspect to communicate feelings, listen to others, find balance and cultivate peace.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Venus, Mars and Jupiter dance together in fellow earth-sign Virgo this week, uplifting spirit and encouraging exploration, expansion and growth. You may find it difficult to stay home or inside as celestial energy beckons discovery. Open your mind and heart to the power, potential and possibilities of our world and universe. Happy thoughts and attitudes of gratitude bring great reward. Take the high road.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) As the Libra zodiac month draws to a close and autumn spirits rise, take note of where your heart is. Inner work and humility promise inner peace and outer calm. As others look to you for direction and guidance, practice the art of compassion. You are deeply invested in endeavors that require help, you simply cannot do it all yourself. Keep a positive attitude and treat everyone with respect. For the good of all concerned.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Cultivate patience and take time to smell the roses as romantically inclined Venus opposes dreamy Neptune in your sign Friday evening. You may feel inspired and hopeful regarding others, softhearted and willing to sacrifice selfish desires for a greater cause. The next day, Mars conjoins Jupiter in Virgo and relationships heat back up. Follow your intuition and focus on wise action rather than idealistic illusion.

The Libra New Moon:Biochemistry of Sensations,Images,Feelings and Thoughts
October 12th marks the day of 2015’s annual Libra New Moon and begins the year’s most auspicious lunar month for rebooting, rebirthing and renewing existing relationships, as well as initiating new ones. It is also a very good time to take a good, long look at the relationship you have with yourself.
We often forget how important it is to check in with our inner and outer self. The thoughts we have and the way we feel about who we are – or who we think we are – are golden when it comes to self-knowledge and self-awareness. How often do you take notice of your internal dialogs? Are the words you hear about others and yourself mostly positive or negative? Do you feel happy or sad? Are you grateful for what you have and don’t have? Or do you spend your time thinking about what is wrong with you, others and the world?
How we feel and what we think about ourselves determines the quality and quantity of the relationships we have with every other person, place and thing on planet Earth, and beyond. By examining our internal dialogs and the emotions generated by our thoughts and ideas, we can identify our patterns – the habits and default positions of our reactions and behaviors - and decide whether or not we want to work on changing, amending, improving or strengthening them.
The human brain is fascinating. And like it or not, we are at the center of our own personal universe. We interact with every other molecule and entity we come in contact with. Everything we encounter has an interactive effect upon us, and we have an interactive effect upon everything we encounter. If a happy person and a sad person come into contact, the sad person leaves a bit happier. The happy person leaves a bit more sad. Thoughts and emotions may be invisible, but they are pure energetic power, packed with the potential to harm, help or heal.
Recent scientific research done by The Chopra Foundation in collaboration with Harvard University, University of California, Duke University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Scripps Science Institute is finding that our wellness quotient – the ability to fight sickness and maintain a healthy, disease resistant immune system – is effected more by sensations, images, feelings and thoughts than ever imagined possible. Of course diet – what we put into our bodies – and exercise factor into the equation, but it is the invisible, ethereal realms of our encounters and experiences that stimulate the majority of our biochemical reactions, i.e. the chemistry that creates and ultimately determines the physiology of our wellness.
As we walk upon the beauty of autumn’s poignant path, transformation surrounds us. It is a time of metamorphosis and surrender. Spirits rise in the celebration of death. Warmth surrenders to increasing cold. We feel the urge to hold and grasp what is slowly leaving. Like a lover who must go, parting is a sweet sorrow. Bittersweet. We are in relationship with everything we encounter. Billions of stars and billions of galaxies reflect who we are and where we came from. May our relationships reflect the best of who we are, who we really are. Starlight…star bright.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Do you feel crazy, rattled or unsettled? If so, blame it on the stars. Uranus has been transiting your birth-sign for several years, rattling your cage in the creative, liberating process of awakening. This week, it opposes the Libra New Moon in your solar 7th house of partnership, prodding you to break free from codependent or one-sided relationships. Equality and balance are keys to success. And watch your step, Uranus is notorious for accidents.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) If you have been giving or doing more than your share in one or more important relationship, now is the perfect time to address it. We teach people how to treat us. If you feel taken advantage of, stuck or unappreciated, take note. The first and most important piece is admitting dissatisfaction. Second is realizing you can do something about it. Third is doing it. Communication is a good place to start. Speak up.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) The number one reason couples break up is poor communication. Whether it’s money, sex, security or emotions, it is often a challenge to express how we feel. But as the zodiac’s prime communicator, you are luckier than most. The Libra New Moon and lunar month favor heartfelt words and acts of peace. And this is the perfect time to reconcile, reconstruct and redefine. Awaken to truth and live free.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Today you stand on the threshold of a new reality. Domestic security is essential to well-being and with winter on the way, you realize the importance of a good, strong and safe home and homelife. Good news. It’s time to cozy-up, clean-up and fix-up the environment in which you live and breathe. Start with your physical body and radiate outward. You’ll be amazed at what you see. You have so many relationships!
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Libra teaches us that every relationship is a mirror, a looking glass in which we see a reflection of self. We tend to gravitate toward the people and relationships that make us look and feel the best. So be it. Once in a while we get involved with people that are-not-so-good for us and then live in the drama of our co-created chaos. Today it’s all about balance. Simply be the best you can be and let go of fear.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Prepare yourself for a week and month of relationship focus and activity. As a yin earth sign, Virgo loves being of help and in service to others. But now it’s all about balance and equality. Take an inventory of your commitments and involvements. Are they fair and equitable, each party free to express their individual feelings, needs and ideas? Check for codependent behaviors and prisons. Break free, be free.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) If we want things to change, we have to be willing to change. And of course, the only thing you can change is you. That said, the Oct. 12th Libra lunation presents you with the perfect palette for rebirthing yourself and your relationships. So…it’s all about awareness and conscious action. Prior to the New Moon, spend some time in meditation and quiet contemplation. Seed the Universe and then do the work.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) A powerful pack of planets and asteroids in both Aries and Libra sets the stage for a dynamic week and lunar month. Once again, it’s all about relationships. Who is the most important person in your life? You! If you’re involved in any co-dependent or out-of-balance, one-sided commitments or partnerships, it’s time to address the issues. This New Moon promises radical, conscious change. And why not? It’s up to you.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Venus, the traditional ruler of Libra, is in Virgo and square Saturn in Sagittarius. This translates as a time to reassess values, beliefs and boundaries in relationships. Are you being honest with others, letting them know how you feel? Or are you playing the players game and getting away with as much freedom and as little commitment as you can? Either way, don’t confuse fantasy with reality. Practice self-honesty.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) As the Libra Sun and Aries Moon oppose each other in the Oct. 12th New Moon, take note of your goals and aspirations. Are you doing what you like, making progress in life and working in a profession or vocation that feels rewarding? If so, congratulations, if not, take time to identify what you want to be different. The world is full of golden opportunities and expanding possibilities. Seek and you shall find.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Ruler Uranus plays a prominent role in the celestial dynamics of the week as it opposes the Sun and Moon. Themes of freedom, revolution and change resonate throughout the cosmos as the Libra lunation focuses upon the people, places and pastimes to which you have committed. Honesty, integrity and authenticity are allies now. Just remember it’s not all about you. Others have needs and feelings too.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Once again, it’s all about whom you have chosen to be engaged and involved, your commitments, roles and responsibilities. The big “R” in relationship stands out like a light in the forest, illuminating your path of destiny now. And the Libra New Moon reminds us to keep it all in balance; healthy relationships depend on it. Remember, everyone is a both a teacher and a student. Maintain boundaries, cultivate equanimity.

Pope Francis, Peace and Mother Nature's Gardens
As a child who grew up in a family of religious wars, I learned that arguing over spiritual philosophies and dogma was a tragic, horrendous waste of time and energy. Prevented at times from going inside the Catholic church, I of course wanted to find out why.
When I was older, I walked through the front doors of an unlocked Catholic cathedral and found magnificent marble statues, brilliant stained glass windows and altars gilded in gold. The quiet silence and flickering candlelight enchanted my young heart and soul. I also discovered I had little desire to go back inside unless the church was empty, free from people and propaganda. It was then when I felt the mystical magic of spirit and the peaceful power of prayer. It became a lifetime intrigue.
Last week, just days prior to the September 27th Full Harvest Moon total lunar eclipse, the reigning pontiff, Pope Francis - who chose the name Francis in honor of St. Francis of Assisi - arrived in New York City and took America like a refreshing rain. It was a perfectly appropriate happening for a country imprisoned by power built on political polarities, economic greed, hypocrisy and self-righteous, ethnocentric ideologies. He came with messages of humility, hard work, blessings, gratitude and service. He spoke of global climate change – our Mother Earth! – thanked all women dedicated to spirit and emphasized the sanctity of helping the homeless and the poor. He reminded us that most of us are immigrants, as he was and is, and encouraged us to open our hearts to all those who seek refuge and asylum.
I happened to catch a brief bit of his morning speech to Congress in Washington on Thursday morning as well as the prayer service later that evening at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. On Friday he conducted mass at Madison Square Garden next to a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. On all occasions his words were uplifting and inspirational.
Thank the stars for Pope Francis. He is making a difference in this time of real or unreal apocalyptic fear and frenzy. (Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner, a Catholic, resigned from his position after the Pope’s visit.) We need world leaders who promote peace, charity and compassion as opposed to war, greed and prejudice. And he has many admirers, even atheists like HBO’s Bill Maher are fans.
I still love to go in Catholic churches and pray. But my real church is right here in Mother Nature’s gardens. And eclipse cycles are amazing. I always take note of what happens in my world and neighborhood during the times of eclipses. The people we see, the words we hear and the experiences we experience are holy. May we walk in beauty and live in peace.
p.s. Pope Francis left NYC for Rome on September 27th @ 8:oo pm EDT, as the Moon was starting to eclipse. I wonder how it looked flying over the Atlantic. Thanks for the visit, Senor.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Last week’s Aries-Libra Full super-Harvest Moon lunar eclipse was followed by an Aries Moon-Uranus eclipse, presenting you with a mixed bag of surprises, awakenings, epiphanies, breakthroughs and breakdowns. Add Mercury retrograde in Libra to the mix and you most likely found yourself returning to or attempting to revive past relationships. Maintain balance and calm. Keep the peace.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) The intensity of the current eclipse energy peaked on September 27th with the Sun-Moon opposition of a total lunar eclipse. Now on the downswing of a highly charged electromagnetic celestial event, you may feel a subtle but major shift of heart. Acceptance and balance promote inner peace and outer serenity. And somehow, you seem to be there naturally, taking it all one day and one thing at a time. Good work!
Gemini (May 20-June 20) The people, information, events, experiences, signs and messages you encountered over the last few weeks have had a major effect upon the body, mind, heart, soul and psyche. You understand the vast importance of personal activism in the face of global crisis - climate change, disappearing plant and animal life, religious wars, greed, poverty and, well, the list goes on. Release ego and relax in your work.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) The Libra sun-time marks a time to turn inward, focus on home and hearth, prepare and set store for winter. Whether this is an active process of gathering firewood, harvesting and preserving food or one less strenuous, you can certainly feel it in the ethers. Great satisfaction comes in doing what needs to be done. Just don’t get too busy to miss the magnificent seasonal beauty. Count blessings, enjoy the colors.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) The last week of Venus in Leo brings you a variety of dazzling gifts of heart. Accept them all with grace and gratitude. The last two years of life have been full and overflowing. Blessings abound. You are a shining light and leader of sorts, one competent and capable of completion – a finisher. Others depend on your strength and tenacity. Breathe deep, relax in work, maintain balance and cultivate peace.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) On October 17th Mars and Jupiter come together @ 14° Virgo. From now until then, take note of the wildly expansive potential and possibilities of your personal, global and universal worlds. It’s as if celestial gates have opened and you can not only see, but also embrace the starry magic of the heavens. At times you may feel like you are walking on air. Good news is, you’re still here on Earth! Stay on the path, enjoy the joy.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) As candles are lit and cakes are cut, take note of the people, places and circumstances surrounding you. With magically minded Mercury finishing up a three-week retrograde in your sign, pay attention to the information, signs and messages that have come your way over the last weeks. Current eclipse energy is now on the wane. This is a time of acceptance, integration and assimilation. Focus on peace and love.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) On the heels of a Libra-Aries total lunar eclipse, which was given birth by a Virgo New Moon solar eclipse, you may be feeling a bit exhausted. And with health-minded Mercury retrograde in your solar 12th house of silence and solitude, it’s the perfect week to take some time off and regenerate. Of course, the autumn harvest season is one characteristic of labor. The solution: relax in your work and enjoy it.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) The Libra zodiac month is one that pulls at heartstrings and awakens you to the celestial music and magic of the Universe. As one who loves the freedom of travel, the beauty of changing skies and the grace of an open heart, embrace it all as you dance a dance of gratitude and blessings. You have awakened to a new reality, a world of radical change. Follow the light, go with the flow and just keep doing your best.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Seasonal changes and transforming landscapes awaken you to the synchronistic harmony of your external and internal worlds. The beauty you see outside invokes beauty within; a deep sense of eternity arouses an almost transcendental awareness of your human life here on Earth in relation to the numinous, divine, cosmic mysteries of the Universe. Seize the day, feel its inherent joy and embrace the grace.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) A waning Moon and darkening skies make for magic in the nighttime sky as evenings cool and stars sparkle against the blue-black canopy of deep space. As your personal world continues to expand and grow here on Earth, count your blessings. Humility and gratitude are essential to maintaining ongoing success. Boastful, ego-boosting, self-importance is the antithesis of what you need now. Stay vigilant.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) As Virgo-Pisces moonlight morphed into Libra-Aries, you may have felt a deep, transformational shift of the heart. Mercury retrograde takes you back to former realities, childhood memories and visions of those who you have loved. Images fuel emotions that give birth to biochemical reactions, body and soul. You feel the love and joy, pain and sorrow. And yet, life is a blessing. Embrace spirit and walk in peace.

The Full Harvest SuperMoon Total Lunar Eclipse
The Autumnal Equinox marks one of the four most significant celestial points in the Earth’s annual orbit around the Sun and in the Northern Hemisphere, it opens the door on the longest seasonal celebration of the year, the season of Harvest.
For millennia, humankind has struggled to survive, and survival depended upon the awareness of seasonal shifts and changes. Watching the Sun move from north to south on the eastern and western horizons, as days shortened and nights grew longer, led to the understanding that changing temperatures and weather patterns synchronized with its movement. The embracing warmth and verdant foliage of one season would gradually slip away to be replaced by stunning golds and blazing reds, cooling days and colder nights, followed by biting winds, frozen ice and blankets of deep, glistening snow. Thus, hunters hunted and gatherers gathered in preparation for the long, cold season ahead.
Fast forward to the present day of our rapidly spinning technological world, where humans have far advanced beyond the hunter-gatherer mentality-reality of our ancestors. We have a plethora of grocery stores and farmers markets overflowing with fresh, frozen, canned and dried fruits, vegetables, juices, meats and grains. Many people’s hands will never touch a bow and arrow or use a shovel. But we still celebrate the Harvest.
Instincts die hard, they are built into our DNA. And we are creatures evolved from and controlled by light. When days shorten, we instinctively sense the change and we react in conscious and unconscious ways. As temperatures drop, landscapes transform, birds gather and animals migrate, our ancient genetic memory kicks in. Something stirs deep within and we feel it, heart and soul.
So, welcome to the enchanting season of Autumn Harvest and the exciting week of the Harvest Moon. This year, the Harvest Moon takes place on September 27th @ 04°40’ Aries-Libra and comes to us as the last of four “blood Moons” [total lunar eclipses] in a row, a relatively rare celestial occurrence called a tetrad. And to top it off, this lunation is also the second Super Full Moon in a row and the closest Super Moon of the year. (Super Moons occur because the Moon’s orbit is elliptical and its distance to Earth varies throughout its yearly orbit. The Moon is 26,465 miles closer to Earth at perigee – when it is closest - increasing gravitational effects and electromagnetic currents, tidal flows, weather patterns and, of course, human senses, emotions and behaviors.)
And then, one more thing. Eclipses taking place close to a solstice or equinox – the four most significant celestial points in the Earth’s annual orbit around the Sun – are even more highly potentized as there is a reduction in the Earth’s magnetic field, thus opening etheric gateways and galactic portals. Less resistance equals greater speed. Hang on to your hats, or take them off, and let the energy flow. Happy Harvest Moon! p.s. This total lunar eclipse will be visible in many locations around the world and visible in totality in most of the United States and Canada, Greenland, Iceland, all of South America, most of Europe and West Africa.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Energy intensifies this week as the September 27th Full Moon lunar eclipse comes to fruition in Aries-Libra, shining even more light on the roles, responsibilities, expectations and disappointments in your most important relationships. This has been a breakthrough year regarding others and one which will go down in your personal history as game-changing. Keep doing your best.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) In the quest for true partnership we journey near and far. The road goes up and down, flattens out, twists and turns. Balance, honesty, integrity and trust are keys to success, but we must also remember love and compassion. All relationships begin and end with the relationship we have with ourselves. The happier and healthier you are, the better others also feel. Surrender to your highest self and enjoy the results.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) The conjunction of Vesta, goddess of the sacred flame, to the Aries Full Moon emphasizes the necessity for self-determination and wholeness in relationships. Meanwhile the Libra Sun conjoins Juno, goddess of marriage, stressing the quest for true, fulfilling partnership. How to balance the me and we? The present is all we really have so stay in the moment and focus on truth, goodness, love and joy.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) You may be feeling pressure from both inside and outside this week. So much to take care of and get done. Where does the time go? Harvest season is indeed a busy, busy time. As seasons change, you may sense and feel the Earth actually turning. And this week’s Full Harvest Moon lunar eclipse is intense. Wise Moonchildren focus on gratitude and relax in their work. There is so much to be thankful for! Embrace life.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Sharing, pairing and partnership are ongoing themes this week and month. Throw in a Full “super” Harvest Moon lunar eclipse, and well, how could it get more robust or intense? Meanwhile, Mercury retrograde keeps throwing you back, reminding you to finish what you’ve started, tie up loose ends and work on closure. Keep communication diplomatic and take the high road with others. You’re doing great!
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) The New Moon solar eclipse in Virgo [9.13.15] gave birth to this week’s Full Moon lunar eclipse [9.27.15] in Aries-Libra, putting you in the driver’s seat when it comes to relationships. And because you are now in the first phase of a new 12-year Jupiter cycle, you may find yourself happier and more optimistic than you have been in years. Things are definitely good. Stay positive, focus on goodness and seize the day.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) If you’ve been feeling a variety of intense emotions and thinking unusual thoughts regarding others, don’t flip out. You are not crazy. A pack of planets and asteroids in Aries – conjunct the Moon – are playing games of war with your nice, peace-loving Libra Sun. Of course, we know who wins, the calm, balanced, relaxed, courageous spiritual warrior. Just breathe deep and focus on goodness and the beauty all around you.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Intensity is the name of the game this week as a Full “super” Harvest Moon in Aries-Libra joins force with asteroid goddesses and wily tricksters way before it’s time for the costumes, disguises and mysteries of Halloween. Dedication, focus and clarity of purpose are allies for Scorpios this week. You may find great goodness, peace and solace in activities that defy the ego and purify the soul. Seek balance and cultivate equanimity.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) The word “lunacy” comes from luna, the Latin word for Moon. And this week’s Full Harvest Moon lunar eclipse promises to bring out even the most cloistered lunatics for a walk in the moonlight. Of course, no problem for the Archer, a seasoned warrior and bodhisattva of the highest order. All jokes aside, prepare yourself for plenty of interactions with and attention from others. Get out and take a stroll.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Seasonal shifts and changing landscapes turn wheels of fortune and experience this week, focusing on the supreme importance of good, healthy relationships. And of course, the bottom-line roles and responsibilities you have in them all. As the center of your own personal universe, everything revolves around you. Are you a shining Sun, filled with love and light? Others may appear combative; stay calm and keep the peace.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) As the Libra Sun and Aries Moon oppose each other in a Full Harvest “super” Moon lunar eclipse, take a deep breath and pace yourself. Daily walks, happy thoughts and good night rest cannot be more important. The planets are dancing with humor and intensity, playing jokes on the mortals down below, enjoying the show. If things feel a bit shaky, just maintain balance and remain calm. Just keep doing the next right thing.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) You may feel a variety of emotions and feelings regarding your relationships as the Sun and Moon move into opposition September 27th in a Full Moon lunar eclipse. You understand the power of personal choice and can use it to its full extent this week. Like the old adage, “what goes around, comes around” could never be more appropriate. Action is karma and good action is good karma. Good works, good luck!

Autumn...."same thing only different."
“Same thing only different.”
It’s something an old cowboy friend of mine used to say. He was also the one who used to tell me to “baby up” – as opposed to “man up” or “cowboy/cowgirl up” - when I wasn’t feeling good or had hurt myself. He also told me that when he was troubled over something or someone, he would make sure he “slept on it” before he took action, made a decision or jumped to conclusions. “Go home and sleep on it,” he used to say. Wise one, that Mario. Mario Zadra.
Autumn always reminds me of my old friend and his wisdom. The slow way he used to walk and talk. The calm serenity, peace and comfort that permeated his country kitchen as coffee perked on the kitchen stove. The Navajo rugs and old photos of horses and friends hanging on the walls, saddles and tack here and there, and always a good cow dog close by, close to his body and heart.
Today Mario whispers in the wind, dances with the leaves and rides to the ridge where the West commences, gazes at the Moon ‘til he’s lost his senses and, like many who love the rolling seasons and wide-open spaces, he is free to wander over yonder, beyond the far horizon. He is free to roam. He is free.
One autumn day long ago, Mario and I were at his Norwood ranch, standing outside between the house and barnyard. I had spent a couple of hours with him and it was time to go. Magnificent blue skies and golden trees surrounded us. As I was saying goodbye, a sudden maverick whirlwind took a wild spin on his still green grass, lifted the leaves and came swirling our way. For an instant, as leaves and wind enveloped us, we were part of a laughing, living moment of magic, embraced by Mother Nature in a vortex of communion, transcendence and transformation. It was quick and powerful, leaves circling all around, and then the tiny whirlwind disappeared as quickly as it came. We laughed and laughed. It was a moment suspended in time, a moment I will remember forever.
As I was leaving, I mentioned how the changing leaves that fall seemed more vibrant than usual, more beautiful, more breathtaking. I asked him if he knew why. He smiled and nodded his head. Then he rather reluctantly said a few words about water and light, moisture content, temperature and weather. But then he stopped and took a good, long look at the countryside around us, the deep blue sky and the shimmering, shining mountains. I got in my car and he shut the door behind me. With his large hand resting on the doorframe, he simply smiled and said, “It’s just the same thing, only different.”
Happy, blessed Autumnal Equinox. It’s our day to celebrate celestial equality in heaven, and on Earth. This year it takes place on September 23rd @ 2:21 a.m. MDT. Peace, joy, love and starlight.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Moving through the middle of an eclipse window always has its charms and challenges. This one begins with self-awareness and self-responsibility and will finish with a renewed understanding of your place and position in your most important relationships. A fiery Venus-Uranus trine supports truth and freedom but also reminds you that love is the ultimate. Choices now create future realities.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) As we approach the Autumnal Equinox - one of the year’s two days of equal light and dark – tap into the equanimity and balance available to us here on Earth. Peace and beauty are tonics for the soul now, so indulge in both when and where you can. Collaboration with others who share your values and visions help calm and center you amongst potential chaos. Direct energy in positive ways to enliven and enrich your life.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) The upcoming full Moon lunar eclipse in Aries-Libra illuminates your hopes, dreams and visions of the future in the light of your relationships. Things you want to do are highly influenced by the people with whom you are involved and committed. Service and the desire to help yourself, others and the world heal and live more consciously are themes. Joy and goodness are allies and guides. Tap into and follow your heart.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) Autumn Equinox takes place just past midnight on September 23rd and opens the door to our season of transformation and metamorphosis. For Moonchildren, this heralds a major shift in focus and priority, a time when you turn inward, find comfort at home and feel the desire to nest and nurture. Of course, the world outside your door continues to pull you out and about. Cultivate balance and peace.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) A liberating Venus-Uranus fire trine encourages freedom, truth and heartfelt love in your life and relationships. Embrace the spiritual law of detachment and accept others as they are as opposed as how you want them to be. Everyone has the right to individuality and independence, in fact it’s something you need to encourage and promote. Eclipse energy asks for service and humility. Give gifts freely and with joy.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) As you move through the second week of the Virgo lunar month, be attentive to the awesome cosmic power and potential surrounding you. Mother Nature is an awesome comfort and source of strength; embrace her beauty and bounty as you begin another solar year here on Earth. Autumn Equinox heralds a shift from self to others, a time to take responsibility for your part and simply do the work. Enjoy the joy of goodness.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) As Virgo morphs into Libra, take some good quality time to examine your health and happiness quotient. How are you feeling, what are you doing? Stress and anxiety are damaging to physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological wellness. Breathe deep and feel the freedom of release as you exhale, letting go of negativity and fear. This is a time of rebirth for you, cleansing the soul of toxic thoughts and emotions sets you free.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) You may feel challenged by outside forces or significant others to be more loving and giving, less rigid, controlling and judgmental. Good news is that you are already willing and ready. Great lessons have been learned via Saturn’s two-year transit through your sign. You lost and let go of dysfunctional behaviors and relationships, identified what worked and what did not. And now you are doing the work. Good stuff.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Master Teacher Saturn moves back into Sagittarius following a brief return trip to Scorpio, turning the tide and shifting the focus from the power of emotion to the power of spirit. This planetary ingress also initiates a two-year process of letting go, pruning the bush and terminating what no longer works for you. This is a time when you will no longer buy into illusion, but rather crave reality. Good luck, good spirit!
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Seasonal shifts are always big for cardinal Capricorns. And autumn is a perennial time of reckoning regarding life direction and life achievement. You may feel a strong need to identify your purpose and direction, reconsider your professional path and take a good look at the concept of ambition. As always, desire fuels the motor, so start there. No worries, you are already a star. It’s just time to polish the shine.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Sweet, loving Venus and freedom-loving Uranus dance in fire again this week, exciting the masses via themes of non-conventional, creative lifestyles, unusual pairings and surprising romance. You may find yourself inspired and awakened to new types of relationships and activities. Friendships blossom and sudden attractions fuel desire and accomplishment. Embrace the magic and enjoy the joy.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) The recent solar eclipse new Moon in Virgo awakened you to the unlimited potential of the Universe and the many, multi-dimensional relationships of which you are an influential part. Chiron and Neptune in Pisces are also players here and will continue to place you in the position of healer and spiritual guide. Whatever the manifestation, don't forget to take good care of you. Maintain healthy boundaries, rest and relax.

Deepak's Rise to Stardom and the Virgo Solar Eclipse
Dr. Deepak Chopra. I don’t know exactly when or how I first became aware of the man who would become an important part of my [life] physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological, but I do remember being in the remote Mexican fishing village of Cabo Pulmo – in late autumn 1990 - with a copy of The Los Angeles Times in hand, reading about how the American Medical Association was dissing him and his holistic, integrative approach to health, happiness and well being. Yes.
At that time, Deepak had been identified in the hallowed halls of traditional allopathic medicine as a maverick, a native-born East Indian, American-schooled M.D. who practiced and promoted the practice of meditation, diet, exercise and silence as a means to perfect health. And Ayurveda. Something most people in the U.S. had never heard of.
I watched Deepak rise to stardom - super-stardom – over the years. I bought his now classic book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success shortly after it was published in 1994. But it wasn’t until five years later, in 1999, that I decided to commit to practicing these laws every day of that particular year and see what happened to me as one millennium rolled into another. And I did. I even carted the book down the Colorado River on a Grand Canyon raft trip. I read the law for each day every day and meditated each day twice a day, morning and afternoon or evening. And my life that year transformed. I moved from one biosphere to another. It was astonishing.
But one of the most compelling things about it all was that as October 1999 came to pass, Deepak came to Telluride for a spontaneous mini-conference at the Franz Klammer Lodge. I was invited to attend a small press conference as a correspondent for The Telluride Daily Planet, the newspaper I worked for at the time. Wow! I was going to be with the man himself for a casual hour or so with a handful of other journalists, free to ask him anything my heart desired. The Law of Pure Potentiality was manifesting right before my eyes.
The day of our little press conference was October 22nd and I knew it was Deepak’s birthday. I took him a card and wrote a note inside thanking him for being here on Earth and sharing his knowledge, light and wisdom with the world. I asked him about Carlos Castaneda, Carlos Santana and Don Miguel Ruiz, all mentors of mine. He simply said, “We’re all saying the same thing.” That was good enough for me. I got it and I get it.
Now I will see him again, along with some other wellness practitioners I do not know, at the Telluride Integrative Wellness Conference. And it’s the weekend of a Virgo New Moon solar eclipse. The perfect time to reboot my brain, start over, initiate a new plan, strategy and practice for the body, mind and spirit. Another wow! Lucky me. Peace, love, happiness and wellness for all.
p.s. I'm expecting Deepak and Oprah to pair up here in Telluride with light, love and laughter to help us all heal ourselves and the world. As we know, there's no better place on Earth to start.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) The September 13th Virgo New Moon solar eclipse is a celestial event packed with layers of transformation. Themes of health and issues of self-improvement stand out against a backdrop of relationship interaction and status. Understanding the supreme importance of the power and influence you have over your own life is key to this new beginning. What is your part? Hang in there. Keep the faith. Do the work.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) With plenty of action at home and plenty to do, you may find yourself a bit scattered or stretched when it comes to personal down time. As expansive Jupiter begins a yearlong journey through your solar 5th house of love and creativity, the world beckons new horizons. But saying goodbye to what is familiar and comfortable is always challenging. This week’s solar eclipse says, trust your intuition and follow your heart.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) This weekend’s New Moon solar eclipse in discriminating Virgo encourages all matters of self-improvement and organization – a word we can apply to everything from messes to personal time. It arrives as a harbinger of the coming year, a gift of grace. Take a good, long look at what you’ve acquired over the years – material, emotional and spiritual - and focus on getting ready and willing to prune the bush.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) As the Sun and Moon conjoin in a Virgo solar eclipse this weekend, pay attention to the information, ideas and conversations that come your way. Celestial emanations of divine light and good intention are filtering through the ethers and will be arriving in the shape of messages, thoughts and words. Get out and about to hear what you need to hear and see what you need to see. Examine internal dialogs along the way.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Your world has expanded with the presence of Jupiter in your sign over the previous year. Now you stand on the precipice of a brave new world. Hard work and accomplishment have awarded you with self-confidence and optimism. You are reaping the rewards of courage and focus, overall, your life has improved. That said, it’s time to prune the bush rather than throw money at it. Seriously, consider the concept.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Another birthday week arrives with the gift of a powerful solar eclipse New Moon in your sign, the perfect celestial present for those willing and wanting to embrace the unlimited potential and divine will of the cosmos. You are riding the waves of awakening and transformation in an undulating ocean of action and consequence. Everything you think, say and do seeds the universe with intention. Focus on good intention.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Emotions are like the weather, they are constantly changing. No doubt you are well aware of this simple, metaphysical fact. That said, it’s a fabulous time to begin examining ongoing internal dialogs. What are you telling yourself, who is shaping the words, who is telling the story, and why? All spiritual traditions encourage self-examination and self-improvement. Self-talk is the perfect place to start. Have fun.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) This weekend’s solar eclipse in Virgo summons us to rise from criticism to discernment, distraction to focus and fragmentation to integration. And, why not? Self-improvement is the name of the game now and even though you may be well aware of others faults and foibles, your greatest satisfaction and success comes via personal spiritual awakening and transformation. After all, you are with you 24/7.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Self-improvement, service and humility are doorways to the divine, a spiritually rewarding path to inner peace, serenity and joy. But if you feel like you are totally in service to others and the world, over-worked and stressed out, take time out and examine how and why you have set it up so. As a fellow-mutable sign, Virgo can get scattered. But the message here is “less is more” and “prune the bush.” It’s time to start.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) A Virgo solar eclipse – one of the year’s most potent lunations – comes about this week and portends a powerful end and new beginning to everything having to do with beliefs and belief systems. What is your spirituality quotient? Are you focused on the material world and in denial of the numinous and divine? Perhaps it’s time to invite the angels to your party or initiate a daily spiritual practice. Are you willing?
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Uranus, your planetary ruler and symbol of the higher, inventive mind, forms a compelling aspect to the Virgo solar eclipse this week, prompting independent thinking and unconventional solutions. Good news, you are already comfortable with abstract ideas and unusual methodology. Follow your intuition as you prepare for upcoming Mercury retrograde. Remain open and willing to adapt and discover.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Asteroid Chiron in Pisces closely opposes the Virgo New Moon solar eclipse this week, calling for a softening of the heart and an awakening to the higher self. As one who is inherently compassionate, this may sound redundant or irrelevant, but it is not. One never regrets doing the kind thing; just make sure you are taking good care of yourself and maintaining healthy boundaries regarding others. Start fresh.

Virgo, Venus & Country Roads Lined with Gold
Today, driving back home from running to Norwood for carryout pizza, I was overcome with the beauty of the countryside surrounding me. The vast mesa, with its big ranches and crisscross wire fences, stretched out on all sides around me. Freshly cut hay fields glimmered blonde and green beneath the western setting Sun, the edges of each hayfield lined with tall swaying grass, heavy with seed, grass that escaped the sharp blades of the hay cutter, catching the light and shining bright, like so many roads lined with gold.
I suddenly felt deep and overwhelming gratitude for the ranching families that have lived here for generations and held on to their land, raised cattle, horses and sheep, kept chickens, tended gardens, canned food and did whatever it took to survive and thrive. They have preserved this rural mountain settlement, like it or not, with its slow pace and laid back atmosphere, maintained the pastoral geography and kept the old, western style and vanishing lifestyle alive.
On this faraway, high mountain mesa, located between the red rock deserts of Utah and the mineral-rich Colorado San Juans, we watch the Sun and Moon rise and set, planets track across the sprawling, blue-black canopy of deep space and a shimmering sea of stars illuminates even the darkest nights with starlight.
How fortunate I am to be here, to live in this little corner of the world, where the old west hangs on like a cowboy on a bronc, one hand on the saddle and the other one wild and free, for balance. Yes, I am lucky and blessed to be here. Here on Earth, where water flows and oxygen is abundant. On land that once housed dinosaurs, tropical flora and fauna, oceans and volcanoes, I now see eagles, hawks and ravens. Mountain bluebirds arrive each spring, build their nests, raise families and vanish south to Mexico in autumn. Badgers and coyotes hunt the fields for prairie dogs; elk, deer, mountain lions, lynx and bears stalk the forests.
We are close to nature here. We can feel the heartbeat of the Mother Earth, we hear her breathe and sigh. The Father Sky embraces her with rain and snow, awakens her with lightening, thunder rumbles and rivers roar. And then, the peace and quiet. Is this what’s known as grace? Something, a state of being that comes to us as a gift, a condition or experience that transcends our everyday 3D reality and opens the door to spirit?
As we move through the first week of September and the second week of the Virgo zodiac month, I cannot help but feel the transitional, mutable quality of these days and nights. This time of year is all about transformation, adjusting to the changing moods and landscapes of the weather and countryside, as well as our own. Metamorphosis is the name of the game and somewhere, amidst it all, is the awareness that we are changing also. And with that awareness, we know in our hearts that we want to be better, kinder and gentler to ourselves and others, more compassionate, giving and forgiving, stronger, smarter, richer…healthier, more spiritual. We feel the Virgo desire for self-improvement and in the process, for improving our world. One smile, one thought, one word, one prayer, one act, one day and one night at a time.
Here’s to grace, gratitude and all those back country roads lined with gold. Blessings, peace and starlight.
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) On the heels of an in-body/out-of-body full super-Moon, count your blessings and breathe deep with the satisfaction of successfully moving through another rather emotional week. Not one who likes to sit around and wait for others to take action, you may find yourself ready to take action yourself. Uranus in your sign has blown apart a variety of dysfunctional behaviors and relationships. Today, right action is the golden key.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) Big news this week comes with a Sun-Pluto trine and the forward station of Venus. Both support and encourage the calm, steadfast character and energy of the Bull, especially when it comes to getting things done. Tackle tasks you’ve put off for good reason, relax in the work and shine with accomplishment. Love at home and the beauty you’ve created there are stellar. Enjoy the bounty as you prepare for change.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) Money and love planet Venus resumes forward motion this week, ending a 6-week period of retrograde. Value systems, relationships and even your sense and definition of beauty has been re-examined and re-assessed. Over the coming days and weeks, you will have many golden opportunities to implement these new understandings and insights to create a more beautiful, fulfilling life. Good luck!
Cancer (June 20-July 22) The relatively recent full Virgo-Pisces super Moon brought issues of love, money and spirit to a head, shining light on personal values and desires. Now you are ready to move forward, pursue a plan of action and work steadfastly toward your goals. And there is no better time to initiate your plan than the September 12th solar eclipse-new Moon in Virgo. From now until then, keep pruning the bush.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) The forward station of Venus in your sign this week is a beautiful thing, a very good reason to celebrate the love in your life and the beauty all around you. The last six weeks may have felt like you were moving backwards regarding romance and finance, now you can look forward to a veritable reversal of fortune, a time when things proceed and come to fruition. Just remember to be kind and sweet. It’s all-good.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Happy birthdays continue, candles are lit and cakes are cut. Life is good and you are blessed, even with all the busy-ness, controlled chaos and calculated creative challenges. Others see you as competent and complementary, someone with insight, ingenuity and good intention. Don’t worry or try to dissect the great good fortune and good vibrations surrounding you now. Just be yourself, do your best and let the Universe do the rest.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Your ruling planet Venus - planet of love, peace and beauty – resumes forward motion following a productive, uplifting Sun-Pluto trine, putting a lovely shine and shimmer to everything you touch. Smile and go with the sweetness, you have nothing to lose. Also this week, the happy trine of Mars-Uranus in fire ignites passion and promotes freedom. Pursue what you want and love the ones you’re with.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) Good luck, good fortune and the golden opportunity to get what you have wanted to get done for weeks comes your way as planets align in a positive, productive configuration of organized, hard-working ambition and accomplishment. Just remember to be sweet and happy, smile and laugh. You have so many gifts, talents and abilities, as well as the knowledge of what you want and how to proceed. Go forth.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Two supportive, uplifting, energetic planetary trines take place this week, providing the Archer with a variety of choices and opportunities to finish, start or continue taking care of exactly what needs to be taken care of. You are in a fortunate position of leadership these days, directing the show, making the choices and decisions. Not always what you want, but what it is. Just relax and do it right, no worries. You know exactly what to do.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) The down-to-earth Virgo Sun trines secretive, seductive Pluto in Capricorn, Venus goes direct in Leo and Mars trines Uranus in fire. This translates as a very positive, potentially productive week of personal power and charisma, a time when you can pretty much do and get whatever you want. The only challenge, open your heart and follow its wisdom. Love and compassion are essential ingredients for success. Enjoy the joy.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) As love and money planet Venus goes direct in your solar 7th house of partnership and marriage, you might start planning your honeymoon or thinking about who you’d like to take, where you want to go and what you would like to do on your next vacation. Hard work continues, and you can get tons of stuff done now, so don’t stop. It’s just a good time to remember that all work and no play is a recipe for unhappiness.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) The first week of September arrives with plenty of pomp and circumstance, natural beauty and earthly bounty. Take a moment and look around. How did you get so lucky? Good health is a powerful ally in your life’s journey, take good care of your body, mind and spirit as you travel the road of happy destiny. You will never regret it. Your great compassion has helped the world tremendously. Know you are loved and keep the faith.

The In-Body and Out-of-Body Virgo-Pisces Super Moon
We cross the bridge from August to September this week, moving ever closer to Autumn Equinox and summer’s end. Meanwhile, a big and bright “super” full Moon comes to fruition on August 29th at 06°06’ Virgo-Pisces, calling us to balance our physical and spiritual worlds in a dance of the visible and invisible.
As human beings, we live a material-ethereal life. We have in-body and out-of-body experiences. We instinctively seek out food, shelter and earthly pleasures, use our senses to perceive, navigate and intuit the road ahead, utilize our brains to analyze, assess and interpret the conditions and circumstances of our relationships and environments, make choices and decisions, and then, after all of this, we crave escape. We yearn to transcend our physical reality, discover a place beyond pain and suffering, stress and competition. A place we can check our egos at the door and slip into the numinous waters of non-self and non-judgment, heavenly bliss, divine light and eternal love. And this material-ethereal, physical-spiritual human dilemma and challenge comes to us this week in the celestial lunation of the Virgo-Pisces polarity.
Virgo, a sensible, practical earth sign ruled by fast-moving planet Mercury – the messenger of the gods - and asteroid Chiron, the wounded healer - finds comfort and meaning on the material earth plane and strives to improve and heal the world via work, service and daily physical and spiritual practice.
Pisces, the opposite polarity and balance to Virgo, is a dreamy, transcendental, idealistic water-sign ruled by all-is-One Neptune, god of the sea. Pisces surrenders the ego to spirit, dissolves limitations and boundaries, intuitively understands that separation is an illusion, inherently lets go of and loses its once individual, well-defined shape and form and merges into the all-that-is and all-that-ever-shall-be, aka the Universal, Eternal, Cosmic Soul.
This weekend’s full super-Moon in the Virgo-Pisces polarity opens mystical, magical, metaphysical doors of perception, expanding our view of reality, and consequently, what is possible. Our five senses perceive less than 5% of the Universe; only a tiny fraction of what is out there makes it through the filters of our programming, education and conditioning. We are limited by our definition and perception of reality. And yet, we consistently attempt to discern, dissect, define, categorize and classify every nook and cranny of our time and experience here on Earth.
So, here we are, standing on the precipice of a mysteriously cosmic world, an ever-expanding Universe of unlimited potential and possibility. Stars sparkle, shadows dance and moonlight shimmers. Everything is as it should be. Or is it? Shall we let go of fear, trust faith, open the door and jump?
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) Mental Mercury enters diplomatic Libra this week and reminds you that it’s better to be sweet than sour when it comes to others. Toxic words generate toxic emotions and it’s a potion of poison that’s better off left on the shelf. But that doesn’t mean you aren’t supposed to express your feelings. Do it in a calm, honest way that promotes self-respect and dignity. We teach other people how to treat us, after all.
Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) Venus retrograde in Leo, your solar 4th house of home and family, may have you returning to a childhood place or space, literally or metaphorically. Whatever the manifestation, know you are reviewing and reliving important family of origin issues. Money, love and value systems are themes, most likely being played out with partners and mates. Focus on balanced thoughts and discussions. Follow your heart.
Gemini (May 20-June 20) Home and family life continues as the top focus and priority now. Parental roles and issues, family-of-origin relationships and concerns, as well as understanding your own desires and emotions - in the light of it all - keeps you busy and working. This is a fabulous time and upcoming year to feel and heal wounds that may have generated in childhood. Self-love and compassion are allies in the quest of personal freedom.
Cancer (June 20-July 22) A powerful blend of Leo-Virgo energy permeates the cosmos this week as the Sun and Jupiter champion service and humility while Venus and Mars join force in a showy display of self-will, pomp and circumstance. Chances are, you’ll be personally involved and ultimately responsible for the words you speak and the actions you take. Good news is you have the gift of free will. Just make good, conscious choices.
Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) A passionate Venus-Mars conjunction in Leo roars with lion-hearted courage and self-will just days before the Sun and Jupiter join force in modest, meticulous Virgo. And here you are, smack dab in the middle of it all. Calm down and enjoy the show, move off the hot seat and let others dance ‘til dawn. Think you can resist the urge to engage? Yes or no, focus on balance and moderation, recovery, rest and relaxation.
Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) You may experience your day in the sun or a happy highlight of illumination and spiritual grace as giant Jupiter and our central star shine down upon your holy, holistic path of self-recovery and self-improvement. Others see you as one who has done the work as well as the time, come out on the other side more competent, compassionate and capable. Humility is a golden key to strength, keep the key.
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) The good energy surrounding you now is a preview of what shimmers before you in the year to come. Jupiter in your solar 12th house of soul and spirit beckons expansion and growth in the mysterious, metaphysical realms of the numinous and divine. Whether or not you are currently committed to or interested in a religious or spiritual path, you can expect to be shown a way to its discovery. Keep your eyes and heart open.
Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) The golden road of discovery and enlightenment, a path to your hopes and dreams, awaits those willing to explore and travel it. The only requirement is the willingness to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with new and different techniques, environments and people. For now, identify what uplifts and inspires you. Consider what you would do if money was no object. Then get out the maps and carve out a plan.
Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) You have arrived at one of those 12-year career milestones, a place that encourages you to take a good, honest look at what you’ve been doing over the last twelve and consider what you want to do over the next twelve. This is an optimum year to explore and discover options, as recognition for your accomplishments opens doors and puts you in contact with the people and places that will help you do what you desire.
Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) The Moon in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn the same day Venus and Mars join force in Leo and Neptune in Pisces opposes the Moon. This translates as a rather powerful week regarding intimate relationships and issues of surrender or control. A loved one or partner may exhibit passionate behavior that upsets or challenges you emotionally. Tap into soul and spirit. Take the high road and trust your angels.
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Sweet Venus is retrograde and mighty Mars in marching forward, both in Leo. This week they meet, going in opposite directions, on the courageous road of lion-hearted love and spirit. As this takes place in your solar 7th house of important others, don’t be surprised if a variety of extra-potent and power-packed encounters come to you by way of those you hold near and dear. Go with the flow and ride the wave.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) A big, bright August full Moon shines down upon you and your loved ones. Neptune in your sign opposite the Sun and Jupiter portends a week of hope and inspiration regarding the closest and most important people to you now. Whether it’s children, friends, family, partners or mates, you can be sure their dreams are close to your heart. Make a wish; say a prayer, plant seeds of good intention. Then let the Universe do the rest.
