Gemini Luna Nueva - Gemini New Moon*
May 24, 2009 [03º 27' Gemini] @ 6:11 am MDT
This month’s New Moon lunation is one of the most significant lunations of the entire year. An extremely rare three-way planetary conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and asteroid-planetoid Chiron takes place @ 26º Aquarius as the Sun and Moon come together @ 03º 27’ Gemini on May 24th.
Why
is this so unusual and significant? Jupiter and Neptune conjoin every
12 to 13 years; Jupiter and Chiron, every 13 to 20 years; Chiron and
Neptune, every 57 to 80 years. Chiron, Neptune and Jupiter? I don’t
have a clue as to when these three last conjoined, and I don’t have the
astrological software to find out. [When and if I obtain this
information, I’ll post it!] But, I do know that their convergence in “new age” Aquarius is something I’m excited about and also somewhat in awe of.
Many
of us are aware that the “dawning of the Age of Aquarius” took place in
the revolutionary 60’s at the time of the Pluto/Uranus conjunction in
Virgo. The babies born at that time are now in their 40’s – our
President, Barack Obama is one of them – and the young hippies at that
time – the Pluto in Leo generation – have just recently reached or are
now approaching 60. The Saturn/Uranus opposition – exact on Election
Day, Nov. 4, 2008 in Virgo/Pisces – is still in orb and challenging all
of us to get healthier, change our routines, improve the world and be
of service to humanity. These are times of true awakening and radical evolution. Whether we embrace these transformational energies consciously or not, metamorphosis is in the ethers and filtering down in to our everyday, three-dimensional physical reality. We can see the structural changes [Saturn/Uranus] in our daily round – a mixed-race African-American / Caucasian President is an obvious one – but the effects of the rare three-way conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius are more subtle.
Jupiter
is the planet of belief systems, philosophy, religion and dogma.
Neptune is the planet of mystical, spiritual and out-of-body
experience. Chiron is the zodiac’s “wounded healer” and focuses on
where and how we carry pain. It encourages us to try unconventional,
alternative paths to healing. The
gathering in Aquarius at the time of a Gemini – sign of medicine,
mentality, communication and information – New Moon indicates that we
are ready to think differently and perceive both our neighborhoods and
our world in a more expansive, more spiritually generous light. We
understand the power of thought, the power of the word and we are
willing to use our minds in new ways for different results. It’s time
to heal the world – and ourselves individually - with our thoughts, our
words and deeds. It’s time to engage in service, improve habits and
establish healthy daily routines. Baby steps are giant steps and it’s
time to accept just how much impact we each have on the bigger picture.
This
New Moon and coinciding planetary convergence is a call to universal
healing. Chiron's rulership of Virgo and its association with
divination, magic, alchemy and esoteric wisdom compels us to look
within and all around us for the messages, signs and omens being
presented to us every day in the most simple of ways. This is a time
when the handwriting is truly on the proverbial wall - literally,
symbolically, physically and metaphysically. Be totally attentive at
all times - TAAAT - and merge in to the messages, intuit the path and
put healing and recovery of your spiritual, physical and emotional
health first. Drink clean water, breathe fresh air, grow herbs and eat
organic. Do what you can, when you can, one day and one step at a time.
Focus on the good and do the next right thing - which sometimes means
taking a nap! And remember, it's about progress, not perfection. Simply
do your best and remember that your best will change from time to time.
Cultivate humility, forgive yourself and others and be of service.
Volunteer!
We
are all truly interconnected, people living together on one planet,
brothers and sisters, born of the same mother - the Mother Earth. What
we do and say as individuals effects and forms the collective energetic
whole. We can simply no longer deny this fact. The invisible forces at
work now - the electromagnetism of the cosmos - are filtering through
our DNA, morphing body, mind and spirit. Embrace the Divine; run with
the wolves, race with the rain and shine with the stars. Open to the
miraculous, the impossible and improbable. Recognize magic when you see
it, hear it and feel it. Connect with people you find uplifting,
inspirational and evolutionary - and keep connecting – they are the
angels, the friends in battle, the brothers in arms, the compadres and comadres. And so are you. ***
Happy New Moon, New Millennium and New Age!

Taurus/Scorpio Luna Llena - Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon
May 8, 2009 @ 10:02 pm MDT @ 18º40’ Scorpio/Taurus Sun
As I mentioned in this week’s Alacazem astrology column, Full Moons are times of illumination, fruition and manifestation. Seeds planted at the time of the New Moon – always two weeks prior to the Full Moon – establish roots and send out shoots.
Whether we’re working with literal or metaphorical buds or flowers,
it’s time to take a good look at the plant, project or garden and
determine whether or not you like the way it’s progressing. Perhaps the
plan or program needs more nurturing, attention and care. Or maybe you
are over-watering, micro-managing or smothering something or someone
that thrives on freedom, space and independence. Perhaps it’s time to
cut back or prune the bush.
The Taurus lunar cycle is arguably the most fertile lunar cycle of the year. It is here the primal life force of Aries takes root and starts to grow. We
can see actual progress, often visible and physical, sometimes
psychological, emotional or spiritual. It’s all about food and
nutrients, sustenance and stability. In the Northern Hemisphere – on
the material plane - days are longer and the earth has warmed.
Gardeners till the soil and farmers irrigate their pastures. April
showers bring May flowers. Everywhere we see fresh life. Instinctively
we turn toward the natural world and find great comfort and
satisfaction in life’s most basic pleasures.
The fixed-sign modality of the Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon favors concentration and focus, persistence and perseverance. Taurus
is all about touching, feeling, tasting, seeing, smelling and hearing.
Ruled by Venus, it’s what we love, what we are attracted to and where
we see beauty. In Taurus we understand that we are physical
beings in a physical world. We need food and shelter, clothing and
cars, a job and means of income. Taurus likes financial security,
economic stability and has a tendency to acquire and hang on to its
possessions. It thrives on and lives in the here and now, is practical,
realistic and concerned and comfortable with the body rather than the
soul or spirit.
On the other hand, Scorpio thrives on intensity and understands the inherent impermanence of the material world. It
is emotional and spiritual, comfortable with magic and metaphysics and
understands the essence of the soul. The eternal, ongoing process of
birth, death and rebirth is Scorpio DNA, and the Scorpio archetype
tends to look beneath the superficial surface of an apparently rosy
relationship or situation to expose or expunge signs and symptoms of
destruction and decay. Scorpio is all about investigation and deep
examination, purging demons and getting to the root of a problem.
Co-ruled by planet Pluto – God of the Underworld – and ancient ruler
Mars – God of War – Scorpio is willing to go to the depths of hell and
back to obtain and fight for what it wants.
At
this Full Moon, expect to see quite clearly the differences between
desire and passion, possession and obsession, attraction and addiction.
We are asked to identify what and whom we value, what and who is
inherently good for our nurturance and growth, and what and who is
innately destructive, demonic and degenerative. The sweet, sexy girl or
boy next door may be a devil in disguise. The charismatic guy with that
appealing get-rich-quick scheme may be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The
good news might really be bad news, but now we can see beneath the
topography and peek behind the mask. Now it’s time to choose, to live
and let go, to cleanse and detach, to eliminate and purge. Trust that
whatever losses you experience now are integral and essential to the
metamorphic, transformational process of self-determination and
self-empowerment that ultimately delivers the material security and
emotional serenity the Taurus/Scorpio polarity craves. It’s challenging
and difficult, but these times are times that mandate a certain type of
surrender and an equal amount of faith.
From
this Full Moon lunation, to the New Moon lunation of May 24th, focus on
the here and now, enjoy life’s simple pleasures and play with Mother
Nature. Taste and touch, ingest and integrate, accept and
decide. Move one step and one day at a time, take it easy. Get rid of
what you no longer need, throw out garbage, weed your gardens and clean
up messes. Mercury - recently retrograde in early Gemini - will spend
the next three weeks moving backward through Taurus, retracing steps
and revisiting issues of personal performance, material possession,
financial security, romantic attraction and creative desire. This
awards us with the power of reflection and the enhanced ability of
discretionary examination when it comes to dysfunctional behaviors and
relationships. Review and reconsider, rework and redo.
Good luck
and may the great tenacity and strength of Taurus/Scorpio keep us on
task and direct us diligently and passionately toward the magnificent
manifestation of our dreams.
April 24, 2009 @ 9:24 p.m. MDT @ 05º03’ Taurus
The Moon is exalted in Taurus and it is in this down-to-earth, sensuous sign that we discover life’s most simple and basic pleasures. The Taurus New Moon and subsequent lunar cylce is arguably the most fertile lunar cycle of the year. Following the impending birth and bursting-forth energy of fiery Aries, Taurus encourages patience and perseverance, sustenance and growth. It is here the Aries “seed” finds its place in the Mother Earth, establishes roots and is nurtured by natural sources and resources. Nourishing
spring rains, sleet and snow are a few of the obvious ways and means of
this fixed-sign archetype, while the budding flowers, greening grass,
baby lambs and calves are the physical evidence of sustaining life.
The survival instinct and “attention me” imperative of Aries morphs
into the “feed me” mantra of Taurus. Food and comfort take priority as
we intuitively recognize the need for and dependence upon our physical,
material world.
As
the earth and all plant and animal life upon it entrain with the
increasing light and warming days of Spring’s second zodiac month and
lunar cycle, it’s time to remember that we, as
humans, are also animals, subject to the same natural laws and cosmic
cycles of all life here on our home planet. We,
also, are instinctively attuned to electromagnetic forces,
gravitational pulls and the angle of solar rays. As budding life
emerges all around us, it’s time to understand our own physical urges
and material necessities. It’s time to pay attention to our bodies and what our senses tell us.
It’s all about self-nurturing and self-care, which create the
foundation for a stable, self-embodied sense of self, a self capable of
survival and self-support, with good self-esteem, self-confidence and
the skills necessary to provide oneself with a healthy and fulfilling
life.

Venus - ancient goddess of love and beauty - serves as the Taurus planetary ruler, and under her reign we discover to what and who we are naturally attracted. It is here we pay homage to all things beautiful and artistic, awaken to our nubile desires and nurture the creative spirit. In the April 24th New Moon lunation chart, Venus plays a starring role. At 00º12’ Aries, conjunct a 01º59’ Aries Mars, she is shimmering and magnificent. Returning from a long period of retrograde, she is now moving forward and basking in the rosy glow of her recent – April 22nd – winning performance in dreamy Pisces on “Dancing with the Stars,” in which she was occulted by the Moon and virtually disappeared from the heavenly stage. She stunned the masses with her magic and wowed the judges with her moves, only to reappear the following morning as brilliant and fresh as ever. Her eternal beauty reminds us to take note of the ever-present grace of the celestial realms and appreciate our place in the cosmos. Her early degree Aries placement in this lunation – and partnership with martial Mars - squares passionate Pluto in early Capricorn, advising us to proceed with caution, especially where ego-based desires and selfish motives are concerned. We are well-advised to be patient and persevering, calm and diplomatic, practical and realistic when it comes to personal goals and agendas. Instead of wishing for and wanting what you don’t have, focus on what you have already and nurture it. Be thankful and grateful for the fresh air, the beautiful sunset and the shooting stars. God bless and may the Venusian goddess be your guide.

Whether you’re a guy or a girl,
some macho act or activity may have been thwarted or a rosy romantic
bubble popped. We were forced to take a realistic look at all things
having to do with personal will, ego, desire, romance and finance. And
we recognized that we weren’t always in control of our ship, sometimes
gale force winds and high tides battered us about and left us high and
dry or capsized in uncharted waters.
